Born and raised in AZ 60+ years. Yes many people let their horses go "free" along the river and reservations when hay sky rocketed a few years back. Also, it is illegal to feed wild animals and you cannot stop along a highway for non emergencies.
@@chadchavez4965 That maybe the case and those horses likely died. These horses are the descendants from horses that were brought to the new world. That's why there's been wild horses in the SW and many other parts of the country long before the hay price crisis.
@@derekgrey3927 Sadly, many, many of these "wild" horses are indeed just released, domesticated horses that have gone feral. Having worked with BLM/Forest Service adoption programs, most of the captured horses prepared for adoption are not descendants of the original Spanish horses brought to America in the 15-1600's. Thousands of domestic horse have been abandoned due to low horse prices(no more horse slaughter caused horse prices to plummet), excessive horse population, high feed costs, high stable/housing costs and way too many people getting horses for wrong reasons/fads that should never have been allowed to own livestock. For every live 'wild' horse people see, there are 10X as many skeletons in the desert near where they were dumped out to be "free". The drone footage shows typical domesticated type horses(may actually be ranch horses on pasture) and not the true Spanish Mustang type.
Those mtns with the hump are called the Bulldogs. I love their drama. I worked at Saguaro Lake ranch one holiday season in 1978 or 79 and it holds a special place in my heart. I love AZ, and spent a lot of time in the places you filmed, I lived close to AZ falls for 25 years, too.
In the 70s, I worked on wild horse roundups in Arizona and Oregon. We gentle broke them. They are incredibly awesome critters. Wicked smart sure footed and loyal. Natural selection is a thing for sure.

Yeah, a lot of times, when we went out wheelin' hitting the trails to 4 peaks or the coves starting at Butcher Jones, in the off-season, they'd be hanging out in the parking lot.
Second heard of horses , the gray and white 😮 i have never seen a horse with that color pattern.... ever !
Those mtns with the hump are called the Bulldogs. I love their drama. I worked at Saguaro Lake ranch one holiday season in 1978 or 79 and it holds a special place in my heart. I love AZ, and spent a lot of time in the places you filmed, I lived close to AZ falls for 25 years, too.
oh neat....thank you for sharing!
In the 70s, I worked on wild horse roundups in Arizona and Oregon. We gentle broke them. They are incredibly awesome critters. Wicked smart sure footed and loyal. Natural selection is a thing for sure.
Love the drive to Canyon Lake!

You can actually see a quite faded trail with much less greenery surrounded by a family of Cacti off to the left, just next to where the river runs through. I wouldn't be too surprised if some of them those are the same cacti from the 1934 photo, considering Saguaro's live 150-200 years
Yeah, a lot of times, when we went out wheelin' hitting the trails to 4 peaks or the coves starting at Butcher Jones, in the off-season, they'd be hanging out in the parking lot. What I found a lot cooler was up in Bagdad Az you can catch the herds of bighorn. Never seen them in real life, very impressive, creatures.
Awesome. I have captured a lot of wild horse footage in northern Nevada. BTW, horses only drink clean water. That is a good river!
thanks for the info! 👍
I ride up that way all the time. One of my favorite rides is to hit Tortilla Flats for lunch.
