Dude!!! What the! How do you not have more subscribers and no comments on any of your videos. This is total BS! You have the most informative and educational aquarium videos on YT, hands down! Yeah we can look up carbonic/bicarbonate buffer system on here, it's usually some medical student explaining it and never relating to aquariums. You helped me remember how to do unit conversions/Stoichiometry with your DIY fertilizer videos and now I am definitely going to save money and buy some dry ferts. I learned it in school, but if you don't use it you lose it. You explained the carbon buffer perfectly and made it super easy to understand. Honestly I think people are just intimidated by your information, even though it is very well explained. You also have a talent in video editing and narrating, great communication. I am sure you are a very talented person and you definitely deserve hundreds of thousands of subscribers and views. I seriously need to give you a shout out! subbed! I hope you do the same, peace.
Thanks Dave! Just checked out your channel and subbed right back. Keep up the hard work, were going to do the same. Feel free to contact us about anything; we have some new content coming to our site soon and would like to send it to you before its released. Thanks again for the support, its very motivational. -Mike
Is the tank volume value based on the maximum capacity of the bare tank filled with water only, or do we have to estimate the volume of substrate, rocks, driftwood etc. ....and subtract that from the max capacity? I have an established, decorated, stocked "45 gallon" (170 liter) tank, but there's no way there's 45 gallons of water in it.
Thank you for this video. The dose range and ingredient was a big help. I used to fail using KNO3. Like math, there's many ways to lead to the answer. I prefer to use a squeeze bottle and small measuring cup. It's gets tiresome with pumps and syringes when you have to dose larger tanks. But thanks again. Would you recommend adding KNO3 to this? Especially if the tank has few fish? Plant holding.QT tanks.
hi there,i dont have a heavily planted tank...i have 2 amazon swords and 2 hygrophila angustifolias...i was wondering if it would be alrite if i added the fertilizer to my tank...?
Currently piecing together a (hopefully) heavily planted aquarium. Wondering if you suggest using all three of the following fertilizers': 1. KH2PO4 2. KCL 3. Fe ??? p.s Thanks for posting such great videos!
Thanks for this! BTW, why not use KNO3 instead?. Subscribed! BTW, Any chance of making a video showing how to make NPK solution and Traces? (so we end up with only 2 bottles instead of a lot more).
Julio, NPK is in the works, making and auto dosing system for that one as wee speak.. but yes you could use KNO3 if you want, the calculations will be very different but the concept is still the same. I didn't use KNO3 because I felt many people out there would not want extra NO3- floating around. On the flip side, pretty much all of my planted tanks read 0 NO3- the majority of the time so if thats the case, KNO3 could be a good choice. Adding 10.8 grams of KNO3 to a 55 gallon tank will generate 20 ppm K and ~32 ppm NO3-
DIY AQUAPROS Thanks for replying. I was thinking exactly about that; heavily planted tanks often require dosing Nitrogen in the form of NO3- (NPK provides that). Oh, I once had problems using a transparent bottle to store Fe (it oxidised). I know that you are using brown bottles, probably for the same reason. It may be a good idea to mention this, as some people may use transparent bottles and face this problem as well.
Many says K2SO4 (potassium sulfate) preferable for aquarium as KCl leads to chloride-ion build-up which slows plants . Author What’s your opinion comment please ?
I wouldn't recommend Potassium chlorate for an aquarium. Potassium sulfate for a tank with a normal to high bio load, or Potassium phosphate for a tank with a low to null bio load.
Thanks for that. I'm overwhelmed. Potassium comes in choloride, carbonate, hydroxide, sulfate, and phosphate. Whew! My tank has plenty of phophate, carbonate, and I use magnesium sulfate occasionally. Hydroxide is lye ... Not so sure about that..... I was looking at the chloride, but I suppose if I end up with too much sulfur the nose will know?
I believe the reason for using distilled water is to have a pure potassium fertiliser without anything else but I guess you could use declorinated tapwater
Nice tutorial! I'm planning to buy KCL and make my own ferts... i was wondering what happens to the Cl? Isn't it toxic to the fishes? Oh, and could i use normal water or must be destiled? Thanks :)
Distilled will be the best choice here. The Cl will dissociate in fthe solution forming K+ (potassium) and Cl- (chloride) Ions. Cl2 or chlorine gas is what is bad for fish, so no worries! Here's a link to the stuff I buy If you're interested: amzn.to/1lzeQeV
thanks for the answer :) i am in Brazil, amazon wont send stuff here... btw, i found someone selling KCl online here, he claims to be KCl at 60% K... will it work? i didnt find destiled water on walmart.. where else do they sell it? thanks again
No Amazon in Brazil?! Thats outrageous! Try and find as close to "100%" as you can, I just looked up some 60% and it was brown... dont know if id trust that haha.
Amazon only sells books and ebooks here.. hah Well it looks crystaline/white.. just like sugar.. he said its 100% pure KCL at minimum 60% K ... dunno if it is due to some law w/e ... im diluting 250g to 1000ml water and my tank is 250 liters, the calc says 20ml would add 10ppm of K so if its 60% it would add 6ppm right? im not gonna dose too much of it cause i already have a market fert that add NPK + micros but i want to complement my K doses bcz increasing market fert doses is way too much expensive hah
Should be fine then man, that 60% probably refers to 60/40 K/Cl who know what them put on labels especially when you're not buying it from a pharmaceutical company haha.
Great video, Did not understand the 30 ml logic, we are going to mix the entire 265 gms into 1 litre of water. And it will dissolve, so how does it matter if i take out and dose 10 ml or 20 ml or 30 ml ?

ADU Aquascaping Sounds good!
Dude you are amazing!!! You have no idea how much it helps beginners when we have access to such simple and informative content. Keep up the good work
hey i have k2so4 to make potassium diy ferts i wanted to kno wat level of sulfur is safe to add

How do you know if your tank having potassium deficiency? is there a test kit to check it?
I have Potassium Sulfate, is that ok too? Bought it off Amazon for cheap. Review says they use it in their aquarium.
is there much difference between potassium chloride and potassium carbonate?
Cl is not toxic for shrimp and fish?
What happens to the cl anions when the k cations are taken up by the plants?
You say 29 mls to add but the syringe at the 4:40 mark shows 34. I am confused.
can i feed food high in potassium like zucchini to my shrimp/fish and their waste would give potassium to plants?
Is the 20ppm estimative index for weekly dosing or daily?
finally my stoichiometry lessons from chemistry are useful
Do a video explaining on how to tell when i f you need a specific element like the common fertilizers that one uses in a planted aquarium
shall i use plastic container instead of glass bottle for mixed hcl with distilled water? please reply Mike!

why using KCl? not KOH? oh any K other? which one is better KCl or KOH?
Want to know if murate of potash be used instead to this ?
Is this safe for shrimp? I know some fertilizers are not.
hi there,i dont have a heavily planted tank...i have 2 amazon swords and 2 hygrophila angustifolias...i was wondering if it would be alrite if i added the fertilizer to my tank...?
Is this going to be a clear or white liquid?
Please do a video on how to make crystal
Who knew science could be so fun!
can you show how to make Nitrogen fertilizer i don't have access to Kno3 is there is any other supstut for it
Can you do the same with iron?
Currently piecing together a (hopefully) heavily planted aquarium. Wondering if you suggest using all three of the following fertilizers':

is KCl harmful to red cherry shrimps? Please reply. I have found KCl at are local gardening supply store.

Great video, would these proportions (10 - 30 ppm) work in an aquaponics system?
Many says K2SO4 (potassium sulfate) preferable for aquarium as KCl leads to chloride-ion build-up which slows plants . Author What’s your opinion comment please ?
Link is not working for calculations
Hey mike had a couple questions first any reason you don't dose everyday of the week? Also do you dose your outdoor plant ponds?
so as per your calculation you have added 265.67 gram of kcl in one liter of rodi water?
Any way to add stuff that contains potassium?
I’m curious how often I should dose? Daily? Every second day? Every week?

please someone tell me how much liquid for 1 litre? 🙏🙏
if i have 40meqs/2ml kcl, how much is it in mg?
Thanks for the info. I would like to know if the chloride part of KCl will hurt the plants or the fish in my tank?
No answer to this two years later. What'd you find out about the chloride in the potassium chloride and it's effects on micro/macro fauna?
Doing God's work my man!!
what would change in the formula, if one use K2So4 instead of KCL for getting K? please tell me!
Hashan Sanjaya wanna know the same
I guess only molecular mass will change in equation
Can you use regular tap water?
I believe the reason for using distilled water is to have a pure potassium fertiliser without anything else but I guess you could use declorinated tapwater
Distilled is a buck per gallon and r/o is fifty cents. Support your local LFS and make it with ro.

Gonna need this!
Holy Jesus. I got to the wall of cross multiplication and decided to buy some potassium supplement.
I was hoping for a video that said “feed your guppies some f-ing bananas.
Someone one a facebook page told me to go do that -.-
off subject but ascorbic acid will neutralise clorine you can add sodium bicarbonate to make it ascorbate keep ph neutral good for fish immunity too
Hell, I never thought I’d use Chem 1 knowledge
Oops calculation error, its not 265 gms but 26.5. The whiteboard has the wrong nos ! !
I can't buy stuff online... 😮💨
potassium will harm the fishes or not
Very helpful , Thanks a lot

subscibed to u dude good vid
Appreciate it, thanks a lot!
I use sliced banana peels they are full of potassium.
Hi
Another Great Video! Keep it up!
I never signed up for math class
you lost me at math and science.
Haha to much pissing about ...buying ready made prob cheaper and easier
Can you provide a link to buy the appropriate powder please ?
