I've been a professional drummer for 46 years. I've played ALL styles of music both live and in the studio. But I have to say that in all of my musical life, in all the bands I've been blessed to play and collaborate with, this "Follow the Light" track has just completely blown me away. The amazing "pocket" that these folks were able to establish is like NOTHING I've ever experienced. Especially given the fact that I understand that they didn't even record this video in the same studio with each other. Dirty Loops was home in Sweden, and Cory Wong (who plays with such funky precision) was in Minneapolis with his horns. They are all completely outstanding musicians, but that BASS!! THE BASS!! I hope he was standing near a bucket because the FUNK was just dripping off his hands. The triplet-slaps at the end of some of his phrases slayed me. His solo was on another planet. Him and the drummer (I've seen his solo in "Work Shit Out" and he's completely GOLDEN) are joined at the hip! I've watched this video about 11 times, and it drains me each time. MASTERPIECE!
As always, its a pleasure to watch you squirm before the funkfusionpopmaestros from Sweden! Thanks man, you are a treasure! :-) If you dare, dive into the "old" songs from Loopified. "The Way she Walks" is my current favourite... ;-P Saw them in my hometown here in Sweden a couple of weeks back. It was completely nuts. If you have a chance - grab a live show with them sometime; they are equally mind bending in person.. :-)
Thanks for sharing your reaction to this awesome colab between Dirty Loops and Cory Wong. Their song/video of "Turbo" is all instrumental but shows off the horn section featuring an amazing sax solo. In addition, Hendrick goes ham again. Keep them coming brother.
Snarky Puppy -level musicianship by all involved here. Instead of going overtly fusion with weird timings etc tho, this being created on a high quality pop base leaves it accessible for *everyone* to enjoy, rather than Snarky Puppy (who I love btw) tending to come out with a more music-for-musicians kinda thing. The "Thriller" cover DL & Wong put together is also crazy good.... not many folk can pull off what they did, taking one of the most iconic pop songs, deciding to swing it in 12/8 with a full-on movie score of an extended bridge!! I love that one too. :)
Why now that you mention it I loved both the video and the reaction. You have a great, actually visceral physical reaction to stuff you like. That coupled with entertaining comments make for a most enjoyable reaction. Keep those hits coming!
In case you were unaware, they were never in the same studio together during the original recording or during the recording of this video. Cory and company were in Minnesota, I believe, and DIrty Loops were in Sweden. They were videoconferencing using Skype...the two videos were shot and spliced together by Aron, the drummer....he edits all of Dirty Loops videos.....I shit you not.
There’s nothing like a Kyleswild Dirty Loops reaction! ☺️ These guys are masters of the funk… Loved this reaction video, very funny and nicely done 😉 Thanks dude 👍 Maybe have a listen to their “Work Shit Out”, “Next to You” and “World On Fire”, -some more funkified gospel going on there, and also including more awesome solos…🔥 And if they were reaction videos we would all get to enjoy some more Kyle blown-awayness 😂🙏
The horn section playing with Cory Wong is “The Horn Heads” who played with Prince. It should be noted Cory and his band were recording their parts in Minnesota while DL was recording IN SWEDEN. Check out “Ring of Saturn” from this same session
I've seen a few reactions to this but you're the first one to point all of the little nuances that seem to go over people's heads. Cory's multi guitar lick, Henrik's triplets and whammy solo, even the keyboard chord swells which no one heard. You might be the one to subscribe too. Cheers. 😀
Kyle, just watched this reaction vid again, and it’s honestly so good! ☺️ In the previous comment I left I didn’t mention their track ‘Turbo’ from the same album. It’s different, no vocals, but yet another mindblowing solo from Henrik as well as from the saxophonist 🔥☠️🔥 Link below. Check it out and be blown away ☺️👍
Recommendation : to know who the honorary fathers of Dirty Loops were, look up a Canadian trio named UZEB. Uzeb Solo Alain Caron Après les confidences I believe It And remember : those guys stopped their career in 1991.
Holy crap! Thanks so much for 1k!

Thank you so much! And will do!
The funk is the best ever after ska.
Only Grace Kelly on Baritone Sax is not part of Cory's horn section Wongnotes.
Grace (aka Stank-face) Kelly. LOL
Exactly. She plays with Cory in The Fearless Flyers, when they have saxes in their songs, though. :)
For those of us with a bad memory for names, Grace Kelly has a great name!
