  • Dunlop has a new 50/50 tyre, designed to perform well on both road, and off-road. The new Raids are aimed at adventure bike riders who want solid street performance, but also need rubber to cope with some light off-roading.
Mossy went to test the new tyres, and this is what he thinks about them...

Good review. It seems to me that the new Dunlop tyre will be a winner. People that know Chris Moss will be aware that he doesn’t give praise lightly.

So it's not really clear to me from this video...where do these sit relative to the Trailmax Mission tyres? I thought they were meant to be a 50/50 tyre that's great on the road as well?

The mission is a bit more road focus than the raid

Dunlop's have been my favourite tyres for my Gixer 600 & 750 and my R6, so when I wear out these Pirelli's on my Ducati Multistrada, I'll be fitting these

@@martinfretwell Definitely better off road..miles better. And they seem to be pretty equal to the Pirelli's on road...in the wet too, which is impressive for a 50/50 tyre. Cheers Steve

Really looking forward to hearing how long these are going to last on the road, specifically on a 1290 or similar. Skipped on ordering these for the moment for monetary reasons and wanting a more off-road tyre so I went for the Anakee Wild, but these or the Missions are definitely on the scope for me next summer.

I have a set of the Trailmax Missions on my Ktm 690 enduro r. I use the bike to commute to work a lot and was burning through the rear knobby tires real quick on the road. The mission tire has already lasted much longer than the knobby tires did. They do good on everything but mud for me. I hate mud anyway so I do my best to avoid it. How much smoother they are on the road was a great trade off though

Did you get any instability at higher speeds?
With a 2011 GS Adventure fully loaded with metal panniers and camping gear, I found that at 70mph they felt very light on the front tyre, and quite a bit of wobble on the bars, feels like it’s on the cusp of a tank slapped. Got much worse when they got hotter, like when riding on concrete road surface rather than tarmac.
I’ve since tried them unloaded, and they feel better, but still a little unstable at 70mph. I am using BMW recommended tyre pressures, I’ll try playing around with them to see if I can improve them.
Apart from motorway speeds the tyres feel great everywhere else, and feel great on dusty / gravelly trails

@@gregbaldwin9460 when I saw the press releases dunlop was indeed calling them 50/50. After jornalists and reviews dismissed them as such they "renamed" their offroad specs.

Dunlop web sight says that the RAID is a 40/60 tire. This review says otherwise, I'll go by what Dunlop says it is. I have Trail Max Mission tires on my 1290 S and they are noted by Dunlop as a 50/50 tire. Just completed several sections of the TAT in June with the Missions and they worked great. What is the expected mileage we can expect from the RAID?

You desperately needed it because the trailmax mission is so crap.

  • @divebobber

I have the missions and like them, though the front does wash out pretty easily in the moon dust. But they overall performed well on a 250 mile trip that was about half off road, some of it pretty gnarly. These Raids look more aggressive than the Missions and I'm looking forward to trying them out. My Missions have 4k on them and aren't even half worn out yet so I have to be patient.
