Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara Strong Hybrid vs Mild Hybrid | Drive To Death Part Deux

  • The last test proved the viability of a Hybrid drivetrain versus a petrol and conventional diesel tech. This time around we’ve changed a few things around, pitching the Grand Vitara Strong Hybrid vs the Grand Vitara Mild Hybrid. Maruti and Toyota’s Hybrid tech going up the already efficient Dual Jet technology.
    Again we have a long drive, 900 kilometres from Udaipur to our office in Pune. Could we make it all the way back to Pune with both cars on a single tank of gas? Ahead of us lay many miles of highway that we needed to cover over two days. The conditions of these roads and the traffic volume once we reach Gujarat could be an issue.

    Great Video! However, the way, the fuel while filling up the tank was overspilling above the brim neither look professionally good nor is a recommended practice. OEM (Car makers) keep some reserve / spare capacity in the tank so as to compensate vapor / gas pressure which gets built up due to external humidity and temperature! And that's why one has to STOP filling after AUTOSHUT OFF of Fuel Nozzle. Its not at all a good practice to recommend 100% tank full up to the brim especially in harsh Summers! Sorry to say, but such practices are not expected from Zig Wheels being a professional automotive channel. I being an Auto Professional wanted to highlight this point. Hope you would take it in right spirit! Keep up the good work!

    • @SuperAlanmax
      @SuperAlanmax ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Narendra, you are right, but in the intrest of keeping things as accurate as possible for this test it's the best practice for us. As you have rightly stated we don't recommend that this is done for regular fill ups. In terms of vapor build up and space for expansion of fuel, as soon as we filled up we proceeded to clock 300 km so the expansion of fuel and overflow was not really an issue. Again this was a test, done in real world conditions, but still a test

Looking at the overall average excluding breaks for lunch etc, we averaged just 40kmph which is very slow for a highway trip. Suffice to say that these weren't the best conditions for good mileage. Hi RamaKrishna, the calculation you have done is based on the mileage that the cars displayed on the MID. The MID calculation is a system generated calculation that isn't always the most accurate. Over the course of testing hundreds of cars we find that this reading is close but never accurate. Often 1-2kmpl off. We also stopped to fill up when the cars went to reserve and showed 0 range. This point is also based on the predicted range calculation that the car is making. So it's not a certainty how much fuel the cars had in their fuel tanks. Ideally draining the tanks would have given us a true accurate result but running fuel pumps dry can damage the fuel pumps and we would rather have an approximate result than damage a new media car that has to be driven by other media outlets. Sorry for the slightly lengthy reply.

    # Might start at 15 lakhs ex.showroom.
    # Might come with FWD and monocoque chassis.
    # Might come as a C segment car.
    # Might be built in the platform in which csuv and sedan are built.

    This test shows how efficient the strong hybrid is but keeping that in mind if we compare the price which to go for we need to check the below stats
    Strong vs mild
    21.62 - 18.79 = 2.83 lacs
    Cost of fuel 100 × 2.83 lacs
    Total fuel = 2830 liters
    Avg of mild hybrid = 20kmpl
    Total range > 2830 × 20 = 56,600 KMs
    So if you buy a strong hybrid be sure that you are already missing 40k to 45k kms considering the inflation from the mild hybrid.

    Don't understand why the stupid traffic police don't take any action against trucks wandering in all 3 lanes while they are supposed to only use left lane...
    And at least they should only be allowed from 6 PM to 6 AM...
    They should limit the trucks during the day or else we are paying toll for nothing 🤦🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♂️

    • @zigwheels
      @zigwheels  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The issue stems from poor driver training and awareness but also the issues faced by the truckers.
      National highways pass through several villages and towns, where local vehicles (bikes, tractors, tempos etc) use the left lane. Truckers have to constantly slow down-shift lanes-regain momentum, which is no small task for HGVs.
      This is why they use the right lane and stay in it, since it’s just easier for them.
      Remember, our 2 hour car journeys can be over twice as long for truckers. They are overworked, underpaid and undertrained. Infuriating as this is, we must account for more perspectives with this issue.
