Zelkova tree is considered as one of the best timbers in Japan, and for sure it deserves it : beautiful, strong, stable, and very workable : it's amazing to see how magnificent slabs can be obtained from a relatively poor log. In the case of European oak for instance, it would be useless to saw such a branchy log for fine timber.
