This is really helpful! I’ve seen these spools before but I didn’t understand how they worked until I watched someone actually do it! I hope to jump into developing my own stuff soon!
The steel reels are the best but like everything it takes practice. The plastic ratchet reels absorb chemicals and 120 film is extremely difficult to load. Better to learn how to do this right in the first place. Good video.
@Casey_Schmidt I have had a much easier experience loading 120 film into the plastic reels. However, the school I attend prefers the steel reels. I have not been able to properly load a reel in light yet, and my first attempt to develop a reel of film that I loaded in my darkroom was a bust. I will keep to the steel reels, which is why I am youtubing how-to videos.

Compared to the plastic reels, these steel reels are a nightmare. I don't understand why it needs to be so difficult.
Really? I’ve found these to be a very easy and reliable way to develop film. If plastic works for you, keep using it!

My first steel reel rolling for 35mm and 120 were a bust too. It's supernheartbreaking but, you Will get it!!@@michaelricco81
