  • The Enchantress Secretly Tried To KILL Belle With The Wolves For This MESSED UP Reason...| Beauty & The Beast
For the longest time, the Enchantress that cursed the Beast at the beginning of the iconic Disney movie has been shrouded in mystery with not much being known about her. However, that all changed when Serena Valentino released the second book of her Disney Villains series, “The Beast Within: A Tale of Beauty’s Prince.” Not only did the story give readers and fans more insight into the life of the Prince before he was turned into the Beast that Disney introduced him as, but we also learned a huge secret about the Enchantress. And with that secret came a very important detail about the roles that jealousy and heartbreak played in the curse that transformed that Prince on that fateful night.

Disney actually published some comics featuring Beauty and the Beast, mostly during Belle's stay at the castle before the spell was broken. But some were when she was a little girl, there were several occasions were the Enchantress turned herself into an animal and was watching her. In one case, to make sure little Belle and Maurice didn't stumble across the castle. It's implied she knew Belle would one day go to the castle but as a child, it was far too soon.

Really when the enchantress saw Beast on his hands begging for mercy and forgiveness she could have just have blessed him saying you going to Marry a beautiful woman one day and you show her kindness a give you a second time or she could have given the prince a playmate. A family you look abandoned I know you have suffered a lot since your mother died but you are 11. The beast was actually really young and would be around the same age as Belle. I just wish that Belle and her father would have arrived sooner. Since the Prince needed a fatherly figure to look after him. Poor beast he was practically still had the mentality and emotional state of a adolescent a young teenager. Maybe piano was a very hard subject for him and he got frustrated easily. He also would remember how the queen would love to play music on the piano. In the original take the enchantress secretly wanted to marry the prince but the prince did not treat her poorly but just rejected her. Only a woman pure of heart that would agree to marry me you are the that woman now the spell is broken. But no the enchantress was not as pure as heart and just got her desserts. Sometimes the evil fairy has a kind sister who is a maid to the prince helping Beauty getting. Helping her look past his appearance. The evil sister is saying putting a delusion hear the screams of woman who thought the beast was kind and were killed. The good fairy is saying Beauty do not be afraid and Beauty thinks there is another prince or man since she sees a painting and thinks the beast is holding him captive. But sometimes it's the own good fairy and no evil sister. In a original tale Beauty finds out her mother is a fairy and she leaves him to become a fairy her self. After breaking the curse.

So either the Enchantress was a child with way too much power for someone her age or an adult who cursed a 10 year old child. No matter how much of a narcissist he was at the time he did not deserve to be cursed like that.

Honestly, this sounds like a great prequel to a already fantastic story.
Loved how Circe wasn’t truly evil, but wanted to punish the Prince for humiliating her and breaking her heart. Also loved the idea that Circe’s sisters wanted the Prince to suffer greatly to the thoughts of death mostly because they thought it was equal punishment for what he did to Circe. And having Gaston and the Prince being somewhat hunting friends is a nice touch too. Explaining a bit of Gaston’s egotistical ways.
I figured Gaston took up those ideals from the Prince in his younger years. Thinking Gaston should be adamant on what he wants, and would go to extremes to get it.

Eh, I don't know. While I understand what the writer was going for here, I really don't think it works; both in regards to the original aim of the story, and the dynamic and composition of the characters themselves. Firstly, I always felt that the original aim of the story (at least to me), was that the enchantress was the subject of one of those classical fairytales where a mysterious fae tests someone (construed as angels in later years). And if these people failed their test, they'd be punished. Of course, if the person in question knew that their guest was an angel or fae, they would act differently than they normally would. But then, that's why it's a test, that they don't know and would act the way they normally would. Secondly, what the original story had in terms of its characters characteristics that they themselves had as people, in this book, is essentially written off as "a wizard did it". And that is a very dangerous literary route to take, as it can easily cheapen the actions of the characters that they originally took themselves and had in-character reasons for doing so by saying they were basically being mind controlled the whole time. "Oh no, it wasn't the intricate and complex dynamics of built upon likes, dislikes, vices and virtues of these well written characters that lead them to do what they did, it was really just this big bad we've never heard any reference to before who really did it." That's not to say I think this story couldn't work on it's own...just not in THIS story.

    • @solereflection9284
      @solereflection9284 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Very well put.
There are too many disconnects and plot holes between the tellings that they don’t sound like the same story. This is not the kind of retconning that works in a functional way. Even without diving deep into the characters, the general basic behavior was ignored: the prince’s age and presumed high class upbringing (of which would not be wholly his fault for not understanding yet), the assumption of knowledge that was never confirmed as disclosed prior to the curse, the apparent absence of older figures around when needed, the fact that marriages amongst royalty or high class was arranged for reasons normally related to financial or societal gain/retention and not for love; we could list plenty more.
The enchantress having incredibly petty and hateful sisters could have been an interesting angle, but not at the cost of pretty much literal character assassination. Just hearing the simplified synopsis of the story, it doesn’t sound like a proper add-on, but a complete retelling, and not a very creative one at that.

This story and the book series in general is more of a ‘what if’ series instead of a true canon addition (though an interesting read, it’s still that, just a series of paid fanfiction stories that you’d probably find on ao3 otherwise)

Haven't read the book but by your description it definitely gives a darker vibe to the story (which I like)
In my opinion he did deserve what happened to him in terms of the curse but also the odd sisters did take it too far by manipulating his life just so he couldn't be redeemed

wow. there are a _lot_ of people in the comments saying this contradicts the movie or brings up a plot hole and i just... y'all know these books are essentially fan fiction, right? like they're published novels and likely licensed by Disney, but these, and the Twisted Tale books, are pretty much fanfic. they take the canon story we all know and they change it and add things and omit other things. almost every fanfic ever contradicts the original work in some way. i mean it kinda has to because it has to be transformative to be legal, so it's not that surprising that this story doesn't 100% match up with the movie.

The enchantress in the live action waited to the last minute for the last petal to fall and the enchanted objects to turn back. Belle was a nervous wreck how could she be so cruel to see how Belle was crying for her prince. She lived in the same town. Of course Belle's kindness of bread and jam did not win her over and she did not know the word paying it forward. She just made everyone including Gaston and the villagers think she was peasant. But she could have protected Belle and cursed Gaston or killed him from his evil advances freed the town make everyone remember their loved ones. What do people do if there king is cursed they start a rebellion and say why do we have to suffer the consequences of his mistakes. Should we all be tenderhearted to forgive others. We help the prince become a good ruler.

Gaston knew the prince? That's... surprising.
Wait, jealousy? She felt jealous about what? the prince didn't disregarded her for another woman, he rejected her because she was a peasant. How can you feel jealousy in a situation like that?
Well, there's little chance Serena books are canon anyways. I prefer the original version, closer to legends where fairies and gods don't necessarily very personnal reasons to test mortals.

The problem is, traditionally, after he threw her away, no other man would marry her. She would be considered ruined for the village. So I do not blame her for placing the curse on him. I actually did something very similar to a man who hurt me beyond repair. The curse worked too well, unfortunately, and now he forever has the appearance of someone with severe chicken pox. I turned his ivory skin into a perpetual pustule burning pox upon every inch of his body. And it worked... shockingly well. To this day, he still suffers. I feel bad sometimes, but I designed the spell to lift once he learns genuine human compassion. I come from coal miner hillbilly stock, no hot water, bare floors, no shoes. My family was seen as "trash" because we were poor in a WV hollar and had a dirt floor. People in the village vandalized our property and spit on us and threw stones at us every time we would go to the market in the village. We were seen as less than garbage, simply because one of my ancestors was a "witch" and we were seen as unclean in the eyes of God and too poor to matter to anyone. But... I married well. I don't want to brag but, luckily, my siblings and I were gifted with beauty, and it helped us marry and get out of there. I know that isn't something to brag about, but when it's all you have... 10 years later... I now live in mainstream society, with a family, a house, and a career...but the witchcraft I was taught from my village will be with me forever, because the magic I was taught actually works. And no one knows my true origin story... I could have been Agatha Harkness in another life. And if anyone ever harms one of my children, I'll use the gifts and skills my old life gave me. But I keep it tucked away most of the time. 😉 Be careful, power lies in the most unlikely of places. And sometimes, the universe will humble you when needed...

Unless Disney has officially announced that this story is canon to their movie it’s just a story. I am doubly convinced that this is just a fan story because the imagery you used for the Odd Sisters suggests that B&tB ties in with another Disney property Gargoyles. This is ridiculous because there is absolutely no evidence within either forms of media that would suggest they share a world.
There’s also the fact that Beast showed absolutely no signs of recognition when he first saw Gaston pointing his bow at him. Sure, he might’ve been depressed at the time but he should’ve shown some form of recognition if he saw an old friend.
His servants (namely Mrs. Potts who saw Gaston had the mirror when the villagers invaded) would’ve also recognized the man as the peasant man their master had a relationship with at one time. Nothing I found while googling the canon information about this book’s tie-in with the movie confirms that this book is canon.

I’m not sure about Gaston knowing the beast that just seems too tidy. I don’t know it’s a bit of a stretch. Otherwise the rest of the ideas are a mix bag of good ideas and ideas a bit too tidy. The good ideas are good like the ones about the witches(sorry I can’t spell the E word) but the idea the good sister from them changed the beast back is a little unneeded, her bringing him back to life works but adding the changing back is her doing feels a bit like it’s taking some of the importance of the plot about true love away. It’d make more sense if she’d tried to do both but maybe she can’t at first. However the conditions of true love being met could open a back door to saving the beast’s life as he turns back, the good witch is able to bring him back. I’m just saying I think that might have made more sense.
