It would be great if you could demo the 57 and 57 reissue using the same tubes and speaker. I'd love to hear the ri through the vintage speaker/cab and using the same tubes in the vintage model.
Individual output transformers make all the difference on this circuit. A good argument for building your own. Several companies make new ones. There are certain pieces of old console gear and industrial AV equipment that have generally nice ones but I don’t like to see vintage equipment pillaged so I won’t say. When you find a nice one have the primary inductance measured dry AND with DC current thru the Primary at a range of frequencies across the guitar compass. Duplicate that with the right lams and air gap and you are golden. Big Backwards German 7 won’t go to the bother.
I like the comparisons, I bought a used '57 RI and put a 70's Jensen and 60's Sylvania tubes in it and it helped. It's still not the '57, but it hasn't had 60+ years of use and different transformers either. But for a Broke Dick Dawg with arthritic fingers, leather ears and who never turns it above four it works fine with his Teles and P-90 equipped SGs. My back's too fucked up to break out my Les Paul any more.
that 57 & 58 sounds great! I'd prob pick the 58 - sounds like a good amount of mid to cut thru funny how the 57RI sorta rasps-out, similiar to the champ600 farting out. Thnaks for these examples, I always wanted to know whether to buy the original 57 or the RI. As I suspected, the vintage 57 is like night and day tone.

Man through my ear buds that 58 sounded nice! I am on the fence on buying that 57 reissue.
When those 57 RIs are 50 years old they'll be much closer to the originals and will be highly coveted.
I agree that the '58 sounds the best out of the three. The natural breakup is sensational.

Great Demo....
The Humbuckers fart out the lows on all. The single coils, especially on Layla, sound superb. Probably just a matter of choice.
Excellent Combo either way , I love the Gibson !!!
I have an original 57 and definitely prefer playing single coils through it
4:46 yes... you're doin it right!
Great playing excellent comparison . I think if you had 5 of the 58 or 57 champs they would all sound slightly different
Excellent !
sounds like they have different speakers
to me the 57 ri and the 58 sounds kinda alike
Killer demo. Can get over the Les Paul sound. Almost a 'natural' fuzz in there.
siempre los vendian con las cajas tan pequeñas?
Los Champ sí, incluso algo más pequeñas en las versiones anteriores. ;) Luego está el Harvard, con la caja un poco mayor.
58 all the way!
Inkey falla oono wallaby dukes! Yeow. Formosa heca marlo, cockatitay. Factorium shitzolla!
Waxel Barrspit vector seven... or possibly even 9 or 10.
The 58 takes the cake.. so creamy.
El del 1958 suena de fábula.

The original '57 sounds smooth, perfect ... The reissue has too much crackling going on ... Not worth $1,000
crackling is mic clipping its probably louder

+frank So weird. To me, the '57 sounds the best, with the '58 coming in a close second place.
+amandio silveira I'm not talking about the original either - the '57 reissue
