I've read a lot of reviews and watched several video comparisons. My main concerns are noise and weight of the dryer. You are the only one to do db tests and weigh them, so thank you for that. Very entertaining as well. If you do more, you might want to include demos with people who have longer hair as well.
I have had two Dyson dryers die in the last 4 years, the latest happened yesterday, and it is out of warranty. No option to send it in for repair either, that is how I ended up here. What a fabulous review, thank you! I surprised even myself by watching all twenty-two minutes of it, but you were giving such great comparisons, I could not stop! And though I have loved my Dyson, I don't know if I can swallow throwing away another $400+ dollars on a third Dyson dryer. I can do it, but I don't think I should. I'm going to give the Shark a try and hope I don't hate it.
Sheesh, I'm sorry to hear that you've had two Dysons die like that. I guess I've been lucky that my second one has been going strong. I super appreciate the kind words though, and if you decide to go for the Shark, I hope you enjoy it! It's really a great competitor for the price (especially if you use my discount code lol). Seriously though, I appreciate you!
The difference in dry time for longer, curly hair using diffusers is probably due to each dryer having different diffuser designs. Shark's diffuser probably allows for more air flow.
I like the gentle scalp attachment. It really softens the air flow. Bought the original Dyson and returned it. Made my hair feel like straw. Bought it again with the gentle air attachment. It was a game changer.
Not really possible to be honest. If your hand is covering the intake, you would immediately know. There’s no way you would hold it there long enough to cause overheating.
@@TDMStyle , I've been watching several videos trying to decide which I want to get and I'm just seeing a lot of people talking about how their Dyson stopped working after a year or two. Wonder what is causing that because for the price that shouldn't be happening.
@@reneeboyd80 In my case it was a faulty sensor, so it thought it was overheating when it was not. Dyson replaced it for free and I have not had the problem since, so I would imagine they probably updated that component in the current versions to alleviate that issue.

Loving this video! I like how technical you got with it! Very informative! Makes me wanna get a shark hair dryer. I've been rocking a "hot tools" hair dryer. So far so good. I'm on my second one since the first one I was having weird issues with it getting louder and hotter on its own when I had it on medium heat. Warranty covered it and got a second one. Warranty comes in handy. I believe it has 5 years of it.
Awesome review! Thank you for putting in the work! I bought the Shark at Walmart today for 70 bucks. I just used it and was happy with it. I would never spend the price for the Dyson... so it's nice to know they are comparable. Thank you!!
I found the shark at Costco for 179. I own the dyson supersonic and airwrap already but I picked up the shark at the Costco price for travel because my days of traveling with 500.00 hair tools are over.
You can experiment with both, but for me personally I like to only use stuff like smoothing serum and sea salt spray before blow drying, and clay/paste/etc after.

Karats measure the purity of the gold. And just FYI karat is a weird thing. For diamonds karat is a whole different thing, it measures the weigh. But 28 karat gold is pure gold. The lower the number gets the more impurities, but typically it's a stronger metal. 24 Karat gold is, IIRC, an alloy of gold made with just enough other metals to make it the most ideal gold karat rating for jewelry in terms of balancing gold purity with strength, because pure solid 100% gold is a soft metal and is not really the best metal to make jewelry out of because it can get damaged easily. I don't know what they mix the gold with. 23.75 karat seem very very weird number and it's definitely gold plated and not really made of gold or it would be something more like $2000.
I just looked today, 1/22/23, and tge shark only has a 2 year warranty on both bundles 😢. The smaller is $229 and the larger bundle is $249. The Dyson is $429 for all colors including Prussian blue with the case and the professional version is $479.
That's a bummer that they changed the premium warranty. But at least they extended my discount codes until June, so you can still save some decent bucks if you decide to go with the Shark!
I got the Salon Guy hair dryer when it was first released. Less than a quarter the price of the Dyson and looks almost exactly the same. Now I'm interested in how it holds up against these two performance-wise.
I got my Dyson May, 2020; it suddenly stopped working March, 2021. It would turn on and then shut off in about 15 seconds. I think it’s the thermostat. They sent another one. That stopped working suddenly in December, 2022. So, out of warranty and $400 wasted. I won’t buy another!!
A MAJOR MAJOR drawback for the shark is it's difficult to clean and tends to have a short life. I've been sent 3 from sharks and they start out amazing. But they progressively lose power and mine has a problem of shorting. All 3 of them did actually.. :(
Your video was great, I have just purchased the shark waiting for it to arrive, as I have the air wrap which I thought I'd get away with as a hairdryer, but unfortunately can't use it as just a hairdryer takes to long. So I hope the shark is good
Great review… I am still in two minds with the Dyson with my hair type as retaining moisture is important with products applied before for a soft blow dried smooth finished. I’ve seen a few comparison and written reviews, where some have said the Dyson actually makes their hair feel more stripped of moisture than their usual hair dryers, not as smooth etc, wondering if anyone has experienced that?
Thanks! I have a coarse wavy natural hair texture, so I feel you on the importance of retaining moisture and smoothing for sure! I have never really experienced that issue. The very first time I used my Dyson (after only having used various cheap hair dryers previously), it did feel a bit "weird" - hard to describe, but how fast it dried and the feeling of the air flow just took a few days of getting used to since it's so different from a standard dryer. But, with that being said, I have never felt like it stripped moisture or anything. My hair always feels super silky after drying with it.
First of all, this review was hilarious😛. I’m still debating. I’ve read nothing but good things about the Dyson hair dryer. The only negative I’ve read is the price. I don’t know I will probably end up getting the Dyson.
