Count the length of cipher text (which is 12) and divide by the length of key (which is 4) answer is 3. So there will be 3 rows.

u should count the no of letters in the cipher and divide them on the no. of the key digits in this case divide 12 on 4 means 3letters in each coloumn

what if key value is APPLE (two repeating letters ) than what will be the sequence.
In Columnar cipher repeating letters are treated as normal, do calculations which you already do for other non repeating letters

You will easily know this through practice, try to guess the plaintext after decryption.
