    Most rack dealers in the U.S. do not suggest transporting carbon frames with grab bars. Most suggest a wheel or fork mount transport.
    I’d also mention that it quite common for hanging racks are infamous for scratching paint on cars (usually due to user error).

    I just bought a Yakima roof top rack yesterday for my SUV and it was really hard to put the bike on because of the height of my car. I should have watched this video first before making the purchase. It's so genius to tuck the front wheel in the leg room.

    Is that carrier okay with carbon frames? My Thule dealer recommended a fork clamped rack, as the ones that clamp the frames can crack the frame tubing when the car is vibrating on bumpy roads or in windy conditions.

    • @CyclespeedTours
      @CyclespeedTours  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question - Thule do actually sell a 'carbon frame protector' which is basically just some extra rubber. Personally I don't see any issues as the jaws have nice soft rubber and you don't need to clamp too tightly. What's more, you clamp very close to the BB where the carbon is quite thick.
      If you've seen my video of me trying to destroy an Sworks fork, you'll probably be OK with this carrier!

    Did you have to cut the rubber strip to install it with the T-Slot? It doesn't look like one that slips into the rubber. I'm worried about cutting my strips as I change roof top accessories on the bars.

    Thanks for the vid. What stops someone from snatching the bike in a car park?

    • @CyclespeedTours
      @CyclespeedTours  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This model has a lock on the frame clamp (and also on the roof bars). So that would stop the casual thief. However, it would not stop a determined thief with tools, so I wouldn't leave it out of sight for a long time.

    Hello Cyclespeed Tours, I am a little late for the question. I recently bought an alloy framed bike, and am planning to buy this roof rack for my car. I would like to know the speed up to which I may go with the cycle on it?

    • @CyclespeedTours

      Hi, probably best to check with Thule, but for sure motorway speed is fine, i.e. 130kmh. Probably more, but depends on wind etc.

    On the Internet there are always reports that the claw had come loose during the car ride.
    To follow up on these worrying events, I noticed after countless videos and forum posts that quite a few users do not follow the instructions correctly.
    Like here in the video, the torque was not observed correctly. One must absolutely turn to the torque limiter (loud click) that the claw is 100% correctly locked!
    If you happen to find other video with incorrectly presented application, share it necessarily.

    I was very nervous putting my brand new beach cruiser on this rack. th-cam.com/users/postUgkxG6JIgwJhur8_Rg8UeQ3EmePzi_wSncL8 But after reading many reviews I decided to get this one and take a chance. When arrived it was very simple to adjust and put together. I also added spike tape over the metal hooks before securing and tightening the straps, and no scratches. I also purchased the top bar made by the same company so that my cruiser sits straight on the rack without having to turn upside down. Extra bungee cords are used to secure the front wheel from flapping and even piece of mind knowing your bike is secure. Definitely recommend...

    One piece aero handle bar are just a con, even if they do work it is in the single digit watts. As I am aware, is if you are in the disruption cone coming of the front wheel, then it doesn't make much difference. Plus you can't fit stuff easy to your handlebar or adjust for bike fit.

    • @CyclespeedTours
      @CyclespeedTours  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      True, it is in single digits, but that is still significant. I worked out (roughly) the savings with my bar here; th-cam.com/video/dX5zqDOfUtE/w-d-xo.html
      Again true that your body is mostly behind the bar, but then the frame is behind the front wheel, seatpost behind stem, etc. and yet these are all aero parts.
      With the 3T there is a good size area near the stem where you can clamp Garmins, etc. and the fit is good for me.
      I think aero handlebars are simply too widespread (TT bikes, aero bikes, etc.) to be just a fad.

      You should always use Thule 561 for carbon bike frames, mount via front axle. Very secure and solid. I saw fragile road carbon bikes snapped on motorway way to many times by clamping on frame

      @@CyclespeedToursyou are blissfully unaware. A f1 drivers head weighing 5kg becomes 25kg laterally when going round corners at 5G.
      If you were to crash into something at 50mph, that's pretty much a thin metal bar weighing 120kg hitting you, at 50mph.
      A 50mph crash to a dead stop is about 20G
      20*6 is 120kg suddenly flying at 50mph inside your metal box.

    • @CyclespeedTours
      @CyclespeedTours  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@SpookyShaw94 As an engineer, I am well aware of accel / decelerations, but do you secure every single thing in your boot / trunk every time you drive? I would suggest that most people do NOT lock down their 20kg suitcases in the back. Also, as the bicycle is either touching the front seats or very close, then it does not have the distance to accelerate to create an impact.

    • @SpookyShaw94
      @SpookyShaw94 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@CyclespeedToursthe only thing that goes on the back seats nowadays is the dog in one of those hammock things with a seatbelt. So yeah honestly I don't, that's what the boot is for.
      Similar reason as to why he doesn't go in the boot anymore despite owning an estate, just an added safety measure - if someone was to hit me from behind, the boot is a crumple zone and he's as good as dead. Read that on a forum and made me thing.
      Just an added safety feature I consider now I'm a little older, that's all.
      I used to throw 100s of kgs of logs in the back with seats down when logging, until someone said if you suddenly stop all that weight is just going to kill you - something quite small thats not always considered but is it really worth taking the risk for?
      Apologies if my original comment came across pedantic, but yeah..
