Countdown to Extinction (the song) is definitely one of my top favorites when it comes to Megadeth. When it was released and I was a child, my English was pretty bad, so I didn't understand any of the lyrics, I just enjoyed the music. Nowadays I appreciate it for both the music but even more for the lyrics.
Ya know, I've enjoyed Megadeth for decades now, watched countless interviews and such, and been to more than a few of their concerts, but for some reason I never realized that Dave was skydiver. That's freakin' awesome! There's absolutely nothing quite like the feeling of hurtling through the sky at 120+ mph! The clarity and completely in the moment mindset it gives you is indescribable!
This was my Life is one of my favorite songs.. great creative writing like; In our l(if)e there's ...... if In our be(lie)fs there's .... lie In our bu(sin)ess there's .... sin In our bo(die)s there's ..... die
The break in this song is amazing! (Sweating Bullets) I love the intensity, get's me going every time I hear it. The double bass... similar to Metallica One
21:10 environmentalism was becoming very popular in the early 90s, between songs like Heal the World, and cartoons like Captain Planet, and the rise of awareness about recycling and endangered species, I'd say this album was definitely representative of the zeitgeist of that time
i agree with you about the tracks that are good, but i'd add Symphony of Destruction. However, that may just be because it was so fun to play on guitar.
You should check out the band Rage Against the Machine if you want to hear the crazy things a guitar can do. Also, Jimi Hendrix would be an excellent artist to check out. The Doors will blow you away with what they do with keyboards (well, every instrument, really).
This Was My Life is a weird song. I don’t like the lyrics and how he approached it but the guitar work on that track is phenomenal. To me, It’s the hardest song on this album to play on guitar. It’s so complicated that the complexity of it gets lost in the mix.
Make sure to hear the original version of the songs in the album, this is a remastered version it’s just not as good as the original sound. The remastered has a different mix.
And Metallica fired him with 5 dollars in his pocket. They created the monster. Any of those Metallica and Dave buried the hatchet stuff is a lie. He’s still pissed off.
I think it's true to an extent. Dave has "moved on", in the sense that he's no longer solely fueled by his revenge quest against Metallica. But at the same time, from Dave's point of view, what Metallica did to him was the ultimate betrayal and when you feel that kind of deep pain, it scars you for life. Dave will always have that inside him, even if it doesn't hurt as badly as it used to.
The part Dave is pissed is the fact Metallica used his stuff and never was credited or paid for some of his work. He is credits and paid for a few songs but not others. The fact Lars tried to F Dave until he took Metallica to court and then Lars tried to buy Dave's work he is credited with just to erase Dave's name from Metallica is next level F-ed up. Besides that Dave moved on. LOL
This dude mentioned ballad singer and said James Hetfield sings ballads very nice. If there were Thrash Metal listening licenses given out his would have been immediately revoked. Dave’s voice goes with Megadeth and their style. If you put the ballad singer James Hetfield to sing all these tracks he would suck. Different strokes but metal fans who know what’s up know you don’t want the same muthufuckas all sounding the same with Ballad voices. Dave gives us a different tone of voice and the only song where the vocals don’t quite work is Tornado of Souls where although his vocals aren’t great the music more than makes up for it.
This Was My Life is one of my favorite Deth tracks, there is something about the rhythm guitar work that is so smooth and melodic. And the vocals and lyrics having this yearning and reflective tone to it just work so well together. I'm sure its been said but PLEASE listen to original mixes. These remixes take away so much energy and have an imbalance to them that just doesn't sit well
The original music video for 'Sweating Bullets', which is a visual representation of the lyrics, is one of the best Metal videos every made.
Nobody can tell Dave's story like Dave.
I like his voice..
I love his voice. Completely original
Dave has always said he is a lead guitarist first and not a singer. He just couldnt find anyone good enough to sing for megadeth.
And they also would def have multiple singers because there’s no way Dave Mustaine could maintain 1 singer

Part 3? Part 2, but we knew what you meant. ;-) So, Youthanasia next! Or soon. Great job Syed! Love your analysis!
whoops, my bad!

Weird voice, wild ride! Came prepared this time - brought my bourbon with me.
High speed dirt is just ridiculous it's an absolute Fast Pace endurance run.
Saying it sounds like a synth, Is a great compliment , in my eyes :) It does! I never heard it that way, but you are correct :D Good ear :)

4:26 Dave may not be the best lead player but hes damn good and very creative, another really good solo of his is on the song Civil War by Body Count.

Damn Rust In Peace would’ve been a better pick. Dave’s voice is weird and squeaky on this album.
Pretty much everything made after this album gets weird and squeaky. Still love megadeth though. No matter how uncomfortable it makes me. Lol
I would say in Youthanasia Dave do his best vocal performance of all albums
I would say that Dave SOUNDS the best on The System Has Failed. His voice sounds matured, although probably becoming limited in range.
The remaster shoves his voice right up front and replaces the snare with some sort of tupperware. I have no idea why

Yea, Dave is a guitarist, not a vocalist. He basically stepped up because no one else wanted to sing
