Sony XPERIA Hard Reset.
This video shows how to reset Sony Xperia Smart phone.
In this video we will show you how to do soft, hard (factory) reset and how to change firmware in case of forgotten Password, PIN, Pattern drill, or if you phone freezes, not start normally, bricked after bad update, etc (Software Repair). Sony PC Companion will download and install the latest version OS on your device.
After Android version 4.4.2 KitKat you can't reset password from the service / test menu (*#*#7378423#*#* - • Sony XPERIA - Bypass P... )
because the developers closed this door. Now the only way is with changing the firmware.
With SONY PC Companion you can update the firmware of your device and/or erase all private information inside (Include passwords). You can use this technique with every one XPERIA tablet or smartphone.

This works! On the Z3 it's a small yellow square that says off. Hold, wait for 3 vibrations and power on. woooohooooo!!!!! : )

Ok thank you so much but I have a problem.. I've forgotten my Xperia M2 password and have been trying all the methods you've mentioned. The problem is that neither my internet nor electricity help me download the firmware to reset the phone to factory settings. Is there a way for me to install the firmware, via torrent for example, and then do the whole process offline? Thank you

Xperia Z has no physically reset button.
Try this, press and hold the Power On and the Volume Up button at the same time. When you feel vibration release them and the phone must restart.

Currently this is only for some models with My Xperia Theft Protection (MXTP) feature. As I know this is for Xperia Z3+, Z4 Tablet, C4, and M4 Aqua.

Told by EE shop that it could NOT be unlocked with my password, what do they know, great video.
I bricked my Sony Xperia M2 trying to downgrade to 4.3 using Flashtool however this video has saved my life!
I turned off my phone (using the button next to microsim) and used the repair tool to boot my phone back up

Should work for Android 4.4.4 KitKat, because you change the firmware with the official Sony program - PC Companion.

If you have Google account, installed on this device, you can use it to bypass the screen lock, otherwise you have to reflash the phone:

Thanks for the vid, i forgot about the pc companions capabilities, when you did the lock pattern 'Z' was that the pattern you set, or was it only to show that the lock was removed after the FW update? Also when i power off my Z1 it turns itself back on then keeps looping saying SONY(unless i soft reset), would this be a software glitch in my phone that could be fixed with FW update? also only charges by dock not usb(says it is tho) Thanks
Yes, I put this pattern "Z". I also wanted to show that when the phone is screen locked, you can not do a hard reset. At this situation, firmware update with the switched off phone works like a hard reset.
About your phone, for me, this look more like a hardware problem, but try to reflash it. This would be the first thing I would do.

- Do you have sound from Windows for a connected new device, or you can open Device manager and check for connected device. If you have Unknown device with an exclamation mark, you have a problem with the drivers. If there is no new device or SOMC Flash Device like in the video, the problem is with the connection. Try with another cable and another USB.
P.S. The phone must be switched off.

The first step in this video (before 01:00) is a software reset, if you phone freeze. To remove the screen lock you have to flash the phone with PC Companion and erase everything from the phone memory, includes customer accounts, passwords, locks, etc.
If the phone is rooted, you have to root it again. But if you phone is rooted and with installed custom ROM, you can start the phone in recovery mode and do reset from here.

No, this is reflashing with the official Sony application - PC Companion. The phone will not be rooted.

i have a z1s that has a lcd deep crack and half the touch screen doesnt work. i have a pin code lock. i did a soft reset but does it change that pin? i cant use the top number bar. im hoping it changes to something lower so i can get in and change the settings to get my files off. it doesnt have any internet connection currently. :/

Soft reset will not remove the PIN.
If you can see the information on the LCD you can try to connect external mouse or keyboard with adapter like this:

This is a softwaer reset, same lake removing the batter. If you want to bypass the screen lock you have to flash the phone with Sony PC Companion.

There is no button like that inside, just white stickers that are a similar size but no button it might not be a z1 model but it is definitely an Xperia
Is there a way of doing a hard reset with the buttons on the left? I can't do a hard reset by going to settings and following your steps because I broke my screen. Now I'm gonna sell it but first I really need all my accounts and passwords to be erased from the phone. Is there a way? Thanks

Especially for Xperia smartphones there are not direct access to the System recovery menu with hardware keys. You can reflash the phone switched off, like in this video. The broken screen is not a problem.
hey man, thanks for the video, I followed your steps but I have an error while updating my Z2 from 4.4.4 to lollipop ""Unable to download your device software. Please check your Internet connection and try later" and " retry" pop up comes over and over again whithout any results. Any ideas? :(

Check your antivirus / firewall. Maybe they blocked the program.
I did my update via Wi-Fi.

Yes, Xperia models can't be entered into Android System Recovery menu with the physical buttons. You can reset it with reinstalling the firmware with Sony PC Companion like in the video, or like in this video with:

Hi, i have a Sony experia Z5 3 days ago my camera wouldnt work so i phoned my contract provider (02 I'm in England) and done a live chat with them regarding my phone problem, they took me through some things but to no avail they then said do a reset which ive now done but every time i turn phone on i cant get passed a google log in page that wont allow me to sync to previous email accounts, any help would be really appreciated as ive tried holding power button and volume up button but this doesn't work. I just cant get passed this Google page arghhhhhhh

OK, you can do this:
Deactivate 2-step verification and try again, reset your password and try again (after a password reset you have to wait 72 hours). Finally, contact again with your supplier or with Sony, they will help you to reset your Google account.

The red button is for a soft reset. You have to reflash the phone if you want to remove the screen lock (this will erase all your data).

You can do this with Flashtool. At the moment the latest stable version is 0.9.18.4

This is a hardware problem. Sorry but there is not a quick solution. You have to find a repair service center.

Hi thanks for the video. I have a problem. I got an experia Z (SO-02E) locked but doesn't have a pattern but an alphanumerical pin. When I connect the phone to PC Companion it recognise it but cannot connect to it and it tells me to make sure the simcard is inserted or the screen unlocked. But it is locked and i cannot access the menu. Is there a solution for this? The phone unfortunately was not registered with any google account.
LT.Nimitz Watch the video from 3:25. This method is for flashing the phone turned off. Then it does not matter whether the phone is locked.
At 4:36 you have to connect the phone turned off while you hold the the Volume down button.

hey there. my xperia`s touchscreen just bugged. at first it didnt even react, then again it just did what it wanted, doing stuff on its own, although the surface clearly wasnt wet. just want to thank you, I did the soft reset thingy, and it`s working again now, and I hope that will stay like this.. just curious though, if you have experienced similar problems already and/or know what this is about? was it just a casual freeze, or does this have a more complex reason? oh and just in the case its going to happen again, how often are you able to use this reset button, without damaging your phone. or doesnt this affect its funcionality at all, and you can unhesitatingly use this as often as you like to? might be a silly question, but technically you are stalling the phone, since it doesnt shut down as it usually does, but instead just goes out immediately, so this might not be good for the phone, or am I wrong there?

Because you can not remove the battery of this model, the manufacturer has set this button. You can use it as many times as you like. Because the problem occurs again, save your data and make a hard reset. Also check for the latest firmware.
If the phone is not OK, the problem is a hardware, most likely touch screen.

The red button is only for a SW reset. If you want to erase the phone you have to do repair flashing:

I seek for somebody who has an experience of installing CWM or TWRP mods on the Xperia V model.
The question is that I can't understand how is it possible to flash the TWRP mod in to the boot partition without affecting the native core installed?
People say that Sony Xperia doesn't have the recovery partition where the CWM or TWRP could be safely set up
I tried different TWRP versions with the "fastboot boot twrp.img" command that supposed to avoid flashing/partitions modify, but all I get is the command halt or addresses ranges errors.
My boot was unlocked. And the "fastboot devices" detects my phone willingly.
Can anyone explain in details what the TWRP image is? Is it the kernel extended or a
image that won't boot the system in the normal mode after it was flashed into the boot partition? And how to be sure it won't damage anything?

I forget my screen pattern and was unable to enter the phone,trying from hard reset with soft keys to secret codes etc,but without success.I googled for 2 days and finally got it with pc companion,just be patient-with average speed its takes from 1-2 hours to finish all process.
PS.Dont let your pc get into sleep mode,from time to time move the coursor.

This is a problem with devices with the latest Android version. You have to contact with your supplier.

i lose only setings,wallpapper and ring tones , and no , i don;t have memory card :(

the Z pattern unlock is default after pushing the red button or what ? because i cant unlock using it

If you haven't registered Google account in your mobile or you can't remember it, the only way to bypass screen lock is reflashing with Sony PC Companion. (from 2:01 or take a look at this video th-cam.com/video/u47fAYa0a4w/w-d-xo.html).
!!! Reflashing delete all personal data - address book, accounts, pictures, etc.
