So I got to the part where I hold the volume down key and connect the usb to my laptop. I was stuck on this for ages as it wouldnt go to the next stage - hence why I am here! Anyway I was eventually succesful after keeping the volume down button held for almost 2 whole minutes and then it finally went to the next step. Patience is what I needed here! And so here I am waiting for the software to do what it has to do... fingers crossed!

You mentioned your device does not start, is this a form of "bootloop" issue seen on some other handsets? Does Xperia's ever experienced "bootloop" or becomes "bricked" when updating to a newer version of Android OS?Cheers.
Yeah, I've software update fail on 3 occasions once on Z Ultra, XA Ultra and once on Xperia XZ. It's a rare thing, happens with other brands too. I have started keeping a backup of my phone just in case something happens as a fail safe! Sony indeed makes it very easy to fix the phone if something goes wrong. Sometimes if an OTA update fails for some reason the phone gets into a boot-loop or shows a message "the software update has failed" that's why I never recommend doing OTA updates it has a certain degree of risk, but for TH-cam videos, I always do OTA updates because not everyone has a PC nearby. But updating phone through Xperia companion is much more stable and reliable.
just my Xperia XZ fucked up and stopped suddenly and restarted when i was updating the Android OS Nougat and keep restarting and i made a Software reset for it and nothing change and it goes so hot when i open it and restart again and more and more and i don't know how to solve it and i think it's not a Software problem ... some thing went wrong in hardware devices i think like in "Processor" !!

Did you select any software location to send that software to phone, mine shows No OS Found from some days some kept it side, was searching for relevant video, found urs relevant but u didnt meentioned if you have selected a software, i want to just reet it to factry setting no custom ROM or setting....

Please try again. If the problem persists, please contact Sony support. I tried a couple more times and the same error occurred. Is the repair done with the sim card in?(mine was). Does the internet connection on the phone have to be active? (or is the repair done exclusively from the downloaded Xperia Companion software on my computer?) My phone is only a few months old, bought on eBay from Hong Kong, the back cover cracked while my partner was putting on the soft case to protect it, the SD card keeps ejecting (had to wrap clear tape around it so it stays wedged in place) and now, the screen goes black as soon as one answers the phone and one sometimes doesn't even hear the caller, or it randomly reboots or turns off then refuses to turn on unless it is plugged in, though the battery is still almost full. I found my XZ premium overheating like 70-80 degrees, was not being used at the time. it wasn't responding, nothing on snreen. battery required a deep charge,. but doesn't work at all. it is recognised by my computer. vibrates and sounds for on off, with orange and green LEDs work but nothing has been showing on the screen since. do you think this will help?

Jenish Rani what happened with your device I also had a Android lollipop update in my Xperia C3 dual and after update it is running slow and often it hangs.
Actually what happened was out of nowhere my phone kept restarting and I couldn't do much as the back of the phone would heat up. So I did try the reformatting with Xperia Companion and it really worked..so my fone is good as new. Thanks tho
