For Steven Wilson videos: • Steven Wilson
Lasse Hoile's video for Remainder the Black Dog, taken from Steven Wilson's second solo album 'Grace for Drowning'.
Grace For Drowning' is the second album released under Wilson's own name, and builds on the artistic inroads he forged with 2009's exceptionally well-received 'Insurgentes.'
A double album ('two 40-45 minute albums in the same package') Wilson has described it as "my biggest project to date".
He continues, "'Insurgentes' was an important step for me into something new. This record takes that as a starting point, but it's more experimental and more eclectic. For me the golden period for music was the late sixties and early seventies, when the album became the primary means of artistic expression, when musicians liberated themselves from the 3 minute pop song format, and started to draw on jazz and classical music especially, combining it with the spirit of psychedelia to create "journeys in sound" I guess you could call them. So without being retro, my album is a kind of homage to that spirit. There's everything from [Ennio] Morricone-esque film themes to choral music to piano ballads to a 23 minute progressive jazz--inspired piece. I've actually used a few jazz musicians this time, which is something I picked up from my work remixing the King Crimson records."

2. Sectarian (8.00)

STEVEN WILSON SHOULD BE IN THE ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME FOR HIS SOLO WORK AND ALSO HIS BAND PORCUPINE TREE.
You are right my apologies.
+John Bortolin and his band Blackfield too
don't really know precisely when did steven wilson start porcupine tree, but you can be inducted in RNRHOF only after 25 yrs from your first album
Hall of fame doesnt mean shit.
Honestly I think he is above that
pure paradise for people with an open minded music taste
One of my favourite Steven Wilson songs from his solo stuff
Rough tune. It's rare that I drop a tune straight after hearing it the first time, but with this one, it was crying out to be played again. I'm not familiar with this guy's work. This only appeared as recommended because I spent a few hours the other day looking through old prog stuff like Magma, Crimson etc. If this is indicative of this guy's work consider me a new fan:)
Steven Wilson's solo work (for the most part) is amazing. Porcupine Tree (his band in hiatus) is pretty good too. Dude is a modern artistic genius.
Be warned though, his music style is truly progressive by definition. One song can sound like this and on the same album you have "Postcard" which sounds nothing like this tune. So if this song is exactly what you are looking for, they won't all sound like this.
Adam Smith You Should Check out the album from where this track is taken, Grace for Drowning. The Raven that Refused to Sing is also a Masterpiece. His last album Hand. Cannot.Erase. is a different approach to prog, but it's a remarkable effort, probably my personal favorite.
Shit I didn't ever remember posting that comment. I was high as fuck.
David LS Don't worry about it. I'm quite mashed myself at the moment.
Also, I've checked some more of this guy's work. What can I say? Crazy talented.
This song, in my opinion, is one the top 5 songs SW has ever created.
Steven Wilson is "John Lennon" of this century :)
Kind of a masterpiece I must admit.
This is song is just next level. I can listen to it houndred of times and Im still not getting bored. Its so dark and mystic, this video is rly cool. Steven Wilson is just a genius!
i see what you did there
Do you still listening?
Honestly I think this is becoming one of my favorite songs.
Old prog style... it also reminds me of Van Der Graaf Generator mixed with King Crimson...
Steven Wilson is great at making tunes with a feel of those times.
I believe Steve Hackett played the monstrous guitar lines here, so it's an even greater crossover
6:16 OMG IT'S OBITO
My favorite song on Grace for Drowning
The drumming on this song is *SUBLIME*
Such intricacy yet with jazzy flair and feeling
Esta composición es la obra de una mente genial. Rock progresivo, Tríp Hop, Jazz, Metal; todo ello pasado por el inconfundible estilo melancólico de Steven Wilson.
pure genius
This guy is a living god walking among us showing us his masterpieces!!
Cool, I can almost hear where part of Holy Drinker came from around 4:50. One of my favorite things about Steven Wilson is the recurring use of themes; even some stuff from Porcupine Tree is carried over in his solo work and it all melds together nicely.
Look at the similarities between stars die and pain, time flies and my book of regrets, raider 2 and routine, Russia on ice and ancestral (in terms of structure)
I loved the song and the video... Steven Wilson is definitely a musical mastermind.
So many riffs so many moods. My god. The transitions. All hail Steven.
Can't get enough of Steven Wilson...amazing!!!
This song freaggin' rocks! Can't wait to hear it in 5.1 and the videos on HD! Life is good!
Somebody please help me. I can't get this song or of my mind. Am totally addicted to it. Have been listening to it since two day and yet i can't get enough of it.
This gets better every time I listen to it.
Reminds me of early king crimson days.
That landscape is how I feel a lot of the time.
This is a perfect song. Just so good. It kills me.
This is my favorite song from the album Grace for Drowning. I love the flute in it. Let's get technical:)
Magnificent...incredible song.
That crawling man is scary :s

I'm blown away. I was really scared watching the video. Freaking me out.
Fantastic album wow! Thank you for sharing 🙂
Steven Wilson is the crusader of my soul !
Amazing!
Scintilla falling behind
Did you arrive at the place that you came from?
A cultivator of dread
The paranoia took root in your cold heart
Neurotic up with the dawn
Prescription pills to ignore, the map is useless
If you would dare to dissolve
You'd get the thing that you craved for so long now
What does the lyrics mean??? anyone??
I've heard that it's about murder, but I'm not sure about it, either.
@@ivan619666 I think it's about a monster, and that monster becoming aware that they are indeed a monster... in a very casual way. Like someone wakes up and thinks: "Uhg, it's time to make the doughnuts... again." Meh'... idk... 🤔
Just my interpretation of it. SW can often be vague in the way he makes his point. Which is polite when discussing such terrible topics... not to scare the children. Also, it's way more fun to be as vague as possible while trying to get your point across in a song. Like a game... 'hide your point in the work'... that so many artists play. If someone else comes up with a different interpretation, all the better. My friend is convinced that SW is a killer that's left bodies all over Europe, and that Scotland Yard should be looking into his lyrics for 'clues'. 🤣
..................................... 😟 Awkward.
Depression in think. It is often referred to as the black dog.
@@ivan619666 Some kind of mental illness, maybe schizophrenia and a vague allusion to suicide. That's my interpretation.
Steven Wilson the King of Prog
In modern days yes but king crimson will always be THE King!
Not anymore sadly
Excellent Lasse...great photography!!! and of course great song...
I got fear of a blank planet. I haven't listened to hand from end to end yet. soon. thank you both.
been like 9 years since I listened to him regularly. It's wild how a faint memory can trigger more and more memories that unfold and become more and more vivid.
Great song... pure paradise...
This man always impress me
listening to it right now, i really like it so far
In a transition state after listening this. Its hauntingly beautiful.
Steven Wilson is a scientist...how can someone make such songs...the song ROUTINE with it's video just made me cry...seriously.
Mesmerizing excursion with Steve Hackett, Tony Levin, Pat Mastelotto, and flute by Theo Travis.
Ashtonishing exploration, indeed. I think the bassist is Nick Beggs; According to progarchives (dot) com Tony Levin also plays in this album, but not in this track
Only discovered Steven’s work properly in the last year and I am astounded!
The accompanying album BluRay DVDs have to be heard to be believed.
musica universalmente buena
amazing tune!
really good track and excellent video!
Steve me encanta...gracias a dios que lo pude ir a ver cuando estuvo en mi querido Chile :)
MASTERPIECE !
awesome art
Amazing
first song i heard on the album... still the best song on the album.
Great tune!!
Everything about this album is great!!! Buy the while thing. You will br blown away esopecially if you have a nice 5.1 surround system and a nice big flat screen. You will watch it 3 times in a row...back to back..Takes more than one listen to really get every angle on the album. You are all going to like it!
Epicness!!!!!!!!

Steve Hackett plays on this!
So much YES
Effing genius.

This tune is Dope ! My fav one from Steven Wilson. by the way iam waiting for the new album to come !
oh man would a song that explores Steven Wilson's heavier side and directed by Ben Weatley just give me the mother of all wet dreams!
Hackett hasn't sounded this heavy since Darktown imo (if he has, though, please tell me where; I'd love to hear it). Absolutely stellar track
Wonderful..
The drummer is insane!
Oscura y retorcidamente maravilloso es esto .
Great song!! It reminds of a strange mixture of King Crimson and Gentle Giant.
Great song!

I just started listening to The Smile, and now having just discovered this song, it's pretty interesting how similar The Smile's Pana-Vision sounds to this.
I wonder if yorke listened to this album
real music!
pinche genio!
very nice.
Super. Danke
thanks god for show me this song
When I first saw this video I was both intrigued and terrified. Now that I can handle it, what the heck is going on in this video?
Anubis? Druids? Sacrifice Inca-style? Video evoked all sorts of thoughts, and Loved the Jazz music and countryside used. Bravo!
@ProgDogMan The point of the album was not about the lyrics, it was the music behind it. And honestly, Steven Wilson appreciates your opinion, but he doesn't care anymore. He makes beautiful music, and he doesn't care what anyone thinks of it.
"I’m making the best music I’ve ever made now because I feel totally liberated from trying to please anyone." SW, interview.
As WE traverse the Path.
