I am the same height as you are and ride a large in my frames, honestly I never thought to go XL so maybe I am missing something. I run mullet and love it but I ride HT so that may be the difference, but I am sold on mullet and don't see myself going back any time soon. Great vid and review, always good to see you two posting.
if you can trial ride an XL bike I'd recommend it! I'm just an inch taller than yall and my xl bike feels like it just fits me so much better than the large bike I got when I started mountain biking. But every person (and bike) is different so I think sometimes you just gotta try it and see what works for you
Without having really watched the video, I kind of agree with the title. While I wasn’t super jazzed about the travel numbers, the bike rides like a Ripmo with better kinematics. I wouldn’t even say it feels like much more travel, just better quality. It’s active enough off the top with much better bottom out characteristics. I’m reluctant to anything positive about the bike being a mullet, because I think it’s kind of a moot point, but I do tend to corner better on the HD6 than my Ripmo. It also feels a little better on jumps for me. I bought the frameset not being a big bike or enduro guy, but I was pleasantly surprised that it behaves much more like a trail bike.
Possibly if you went with a 170 up front rather than the 180 it might feel less "chopper-like", provided it doesn't drop the bb too much. Also, the choice of tire combination is a big deal with the mullets. A different tire combo might help with that feeling.
@moandhannahtravel Look at the axle to crown difference between the (spec'd) Fox 38 and the Onyx 38.... the Onyx is slightly taller, so that could have slacked you just the slightest bit.

Do you think 155 cranks would be more appropriate for that BBH?
I have to wonder how much suspension choice had to do with the unbalanced feel. The HD6 is progressive enough out back that it can make good use of a high volume air shock like an X2 or Vivid or better yet a coil. Obviously it comes stock with an X2 and I've seen a lot of them instantly swapped to coil. Also as someone who rode a Topaz for 3 years, it's not a great shock, adding enough spacers to keep it from clapping even on a cascade link wrecked its small bump sensitivity. For me personally, DW is great for pedaling, but for downhill Horst just tracks so much smoother through chunk.
Interesting!! I rode it with the stock X2 and I really don’t like that shock. But I love the float x. I feel like maybe ibis should have done size specific chainstay lengths but I guess I won’t know how that would have felt! Would Be interesting to try the new yeti sb165!
I wonder how much that has to do with rider weight? I'm a bigger rider and feel like my 38 is already buttery smooth off the top once I got the low speed compression/rebound sorted, only fork I've ridden that is smoother off the top is a Zeb Ultimate, but the 38 is more stable on big hits thanks to the HSR. I do have to wonder if the DVO sponsored riders would keep riding it without a sponsorship. My own experience with DVO was not great, Onyx SC pitched me over the front twice due to stanchion binding (common problem on the Onyx SC).
IBIS listened to their professional racers and made a bike for hard charging riders unlike all their usual bikes. I think people need to ride steeper and harder stuff to really enjoy this bike, but that small chain stay across all sizes is not great for guys at your height, you have so much space to move back and forth.
Please, I’ve the Canyon spectral 125 5l … kindly help or guide on how to fix my dropper cable .. mistakenly pulled it inside the frame during assembly and don’t know how to fix it or Channel to back to the seat.. thank you

So interesting!! Maybe it’s because I have really long legs and arms? Either way the HD6 is an awesome bike!!!!

Love my HD6 with the new Onyx 38/Topaz Prime shock! Great video Mo!
Thanks Bryson!!!
Sounds like you’re ready to see what the new Ripmo will be like! I’m patiently waiting.
It's on the way!
its coming!
When!?!?! 😮😮

Solid review - thanks!

I think 170 would be the sweet spot! Weird it comes species with 180!
@@moandhannahtravel i think the bike is suffering from travel-envy, trying to be something its not 🤔

That would be interesting!
I'm on a 165 crank on a size 3 and really wanted a 160, but couldn't get one due to the chainline. Hopefully more options will be available soon.
Had to run this in half speed to understand what you were saying hahaha

Great bike and great video. I just wish you would have told me how tall you are.
I’m 6’2!!
That was the joke. You said it about 14 times. LOL. Love your videos.
This bike comes completely alive with a Smashpot in a Fox 38

The dvo stuff is simply not up to par. I’m 176 lb but ride fast rowdy rocky trails. I’ve been impressed by the manitou mezzer
Mo knows bikes.

They went to all the trouble to develop the HD6 then abruptly stopped racing. I don't think Johansen or Richter found a ride for 2024, Peterson did
Now that was a hot take!
😂😂😂
Get the Ibis DV-9
We've always wanted to try that one!! 🙌
@@moandhannahtravel I just bought one with XT build. It should arrive this week. Purple crush baby.

Awesome bike
It is a fun one!!!
Begging you to please start lifting weights and stop consuming soy
😂😂😂😂
Agreed
I have submitted your guys request and it was denied. Soy will continue to be consumed and weights will not be lifted 😂 -Mo
@@moandhannahtravel sorry to hear that lil feller!

How? I literally said this bike isn't for me and I do not like the mullet.
