The Gerber (or at least a version of it) was issued to my unit back in the day (2002ish) and it lasted a long time. Was my go-to multi tool for 2 deployments and it never broke or had any issues. But again, that was 20 years ago
All this time I thought our supply hooked us up with these because we were deploying as a company (not the usual battalion or brigade). Reading your comments and I realize that it was apparently a standard issue. Lol! Mine got used yesterday and I got it back in 2008.
@@newbietubie you may have cracked the code! We were under the impression that we were getting the hook up as well (again this was back during the initial push back in 2003). Terms like “unlimited budget” were getting tossed around and our supply grabbed those as well as several other things. Crazy world.
I think one of the things this series is most useful for is people who receive a random store gift card and want to start an EDC with it. It would be outside the box, but would be interesting to see an alternative carry set from a place like Michael's or another craft store where the blade might be compact scissors or another kind of blade.
I use the slide lock all the time to carry my keys on my backpack. The locking part helps greatly because there is no fear of the keys falling off and it has happened when not locked.
Glad to see SOG get some screen time. I would enjoy seeing you hit a unusual store for EDC like a Walgreens or CVS and get a specific medical EDC or survival EDC.
The removable clips on the MP 600 are designed to make cleaning easy I think. When I have carried mine in different fleece pockets when going to help my neighbor out, I find that things like lint may get stuck in the track.
I had a Gerber multi tool and did something stupid with it and the pliers broke . kept it for like 6 years in a box then sent them a email and a picture of the tool they sent me a brand new multi tool free of charge. Had a Gerber knife that had broken as well that originally cost me 20$ from Wal-Mart. Sent Gerber the picture of the knife and they sent me a Gerber Principal knife retail of 60$ free of charge sent to me . what a amazing gift. These 2 reasons they sent me new products free of charge made me a definite FAN .Totally satisfied with Gerber. .. I will definitely be a customer for Gerber knifes & tools in the future due to their amazing satisfaction of me a customer without a recipient and of something I've owned for over 10 years. Definitely Happy with Gerber
I've been carrying the Flare for over 3 years now until i pull the trig to upgrade to something better and have had no real problems with it. easy to sharpen with my work sharp field sharpener, low profile minus the pocket clip. good for taking down cardboard and package plastic
Let’s go with the Coast flashlight! I use the G20 variant for work and it just rocks, since I have to look inside exhaust units or under the hydraulics table for a ground screw I drop (happens a ton)
My personal edc consists of a KABAR folding hunter, Boker Kalashnikov reverse tanto, a Quantum flashlight that uses two AAA batteries, a small screwdriver with bits to fit the screws on the knives, a Sparrows EOD full pick set, a custom micro torch, a 600 grit ceramic hone, a zippo lighter secured in the stone holder on my tracker knife, my tracker knife (ottoza but soon to be upgraded to something else), my wallet, phone, charger, headphones, and a quick deploy paracord bracelet
You know I was just looking at that Coast flashlight just a bit ago at the store. I own the large Fastback and love it, I use it for work all the time. I'm new to the community but long time edc fan.
I tried all those depot knives, and the toughest and easiest to sharpen was the $9.98 Coast RX352. I use it as a pry bar as well, no chips, bends, cracks, etc. I use it for trucker duties with heavy daily use
They have a mini Milwaukee tape measure that has a built in LED for about $5 I believe. That lil thing is ALWAYS on me and has been helpful so many times
I bought one of those slide lock Gerbers a few years ago, and it stopped deploying properly as soon as I got a little bit of gunk in it. I've bought nothing but Leatherman ever since.
Oh cool, I've had two Slide-locks for a couple years. They're nice to have, a few keysmart quick releases are a good add-on if you have a Gerber dime and Olite 1ir 2 Pro that you want to be able to detach quickly but separately
I love my 6-1 . I use mine for a year. And everyday with the screwdriver and all the bits I carry a whole set of metric Allen bits and torx and Phillips and Robby . Please a Craftsman 1/4 ratchet and 2" extension and adapter 1/4 drive and 1/4 to 3/8 socket driver. With a nite)Ize fish pry bar and knipex Cobra XS and pokka pen ,rite rain in blaze orange. All in chums wallet.
I keep my phone tethered with one of those niteize quick release units and a coiled Kevlar line. It works so well my lady wanted one for her car key. 🤙🏾
I used that Gerber in the military. It was issued to us. Held up pretty well. I went through two in 12 years. Seeing Cabelas or maybe a military exchange would be fun!!
Gotta get it bulletproof and tuned. Maybe even regear axles depending how big of tires and lift you went with. That will make a difference with that 7.3
That nite ize magnetic slide lock's pretty interesting, especially how it can be locked. I'd suggest trying out a rest stop. I've been to a few where they'd sell half way decent multitools and lights. Course not all rest stops got stores, might be a challenging find.
I really dig that quick release caribiner. A lil more than I'd like to spend but what isnt nowadays. & theres a ton of places. Depends if you have them. You could do scheels, sportsmans warehouse, cables, etc. Maybe even an IFA or a tractor supply. Anywho, keep it up.🤙
I don’t know if you’ve already done it but REI would be great. You would really be able to go all out. I love that Milwaukee Fastback, pick me always trying to expand my EDC gear.
Dude! I never saw that quick release gizmo before but could definitely use that for some boat keys! I think tractor supply would be a great next stop for ya. Thanks for doing these, lots of fun to see what you scab together from a local retail spot
First off, you are missing out on the fastback 6n1. Mine was just stolen and I immediately bought a replacement for work. Second, go to an Ace hardware in a small mountain town. They tend to be larger have a little something for everyone because they are in a destination and no other options. The hardware store in Black Mountain, NC carries legit Granfors Bruks. Lastly, Mast General Store in Asheville had a little bit of everything. It’s not big box at all, and would be entertaining as they also carry hiking gear, etc.
The Milwaukee with the pop out 1/4 driver is my favorite backup. I have one in every car motorcycle etc etc. They we’re on sale cheap for like 8 bucks one day so I bought the pile lol.
I have a Swisstool. After over a decade with my wave I was ready for a change. And to be honest I won’t look back. Nothing against leatherman. They served me well for almost 20 years of my life. Just wanted to try something else.
I think it would be interesting to see you do a full kit from bladehq. Obviously the knife part would be easy, it's the rest of it I would be curious to see
I’ve seen similar suggestions but it would be interesting to see you put together a medical kit from a cvs or something similar. I don’t know what kind of ems training you have but that would be a nice opportunity for a collaboration with someone in that field to give good advice out.
I own both a Leatherman Free P2 and a Gerber M600. The Leatherman is better built, it should be a 2X the price, but the one handed flick out of the Gerber is fantastic for one handed operation. A must if you are using to remove fish hooks.
Great. Video as always Taylor. I have a Nissan NV 3500 so I know how that fill up at the pump pains you! Would love to see you hit up Tractor supply and also a mom and pop hardware store if you can find one 👌🏻
Please do Tractor supply next. I worked there for two years before I finished my degree and became a teacher. I really enjoyed my time there but I never looked at our products from the EDC scope.
Have a Gerber similar to the one you have. Mine has a lot of years on it but not much use. Have a vitranox in my pocket that gets most of the actual use while my assisted opening knives are fidget toys for the most part.
Comparing the different ace hardware's would be interesting. Are there mon and pop stores locally? That could be interesting to see what edc could be created there.
I am not too familiar with those big truck stops but I wonder what sort of EDC you could find on the side of the highway in a truck stop though…what kind of quality do they have? I know that the Buc-ees near Austin, TX is great and full of wonderful surprises! Love your videos !
Is it durable. Do you do any heavy cutting with it? Or do you just use it once in a while. I work in a warehouse and bought similar knives but they have locked up and wouldn't close or open after use. I may go grab one of these
@@theswingingaxe4876 nice! All I needed to hear. Just wanted to make sure you didn't use it to open an Amazon box once a month. I need a knife that can do some work
Great video! I always love these! Interesting to see what things you find local to you! You definitely try and do one at dicks sporting goods! Keep up the awesome videos 😄
So I was watching your video and the way that master link was put on when you closed the pliers the bottom pushed it off the pins easy fix put the master link bCk on open side to the tip of the pliers
I bought a Gerber MP a few months back from recommendations of others. I fix slot machines so something light was nice. After it breaking in some, some wd40 accidentally hitting it, it worked amazing. Opened the tools opened easily. Someone showed me how to flick open it. (it can you just have to avoid the sliding rails and some practice. But it slid out of my pocket and I lost it. Bought a second replacement, and that same locking pin fell out twice and I exchanged it for a new one. This one is good, very stiff. But I ended up buying a Gerber center drive after and setting the MP aside. The screw driver and spring pliers are amazing. But with the MP, the light body, fairly cheap price, and availability seems like a great price. If you can find a reliable one and break it in.
Honestly I use that magnetic key thing everyday for my work keys and I actually really like it. I will say my only complaint would be the lock on the carabiner itself became very annoying to get off my belt loop everyday.
Great videos… I don’t know why, but I love these. Do you have an Atwoods that you can go to?!? By the way, an Ace hardware in Waco has a gun store and Carrie’s Benchmade, ZTs, and few other brands. They also have an impressive collection of flashlights.

It was issued to me as well in 2013-2020. As you said go too tool and it was always rock solid
Mine was issued in 2008. Still use it at least weekly.
Thank you for your sacrifice brother
All this time I thought our supply hooked us up with these because we were deploying as a company (not the usual battalion or brigade). Reading your comments and I realize that it was apparently a standard issue. Lol! Mine got used yesterday and I got it back in 2008.

Looking forward to the tractor supply video, one of my favorite spots!
I prefer Leatherman myself too but have had a couple gerber multi tools that turned out ok. Thanks for sharing
Nice to see this budget edc. Cabbelas sounds like a good stop. How about after going to all these places, pick out the best items they had to offer.

I miss my Excursion. It's definitely the King of SUV's. I say that with full confidence and I'm actually a Dodge guy at heart..
The "Best Complete EDC from X" is what got me into this channel
Had a chuckle when good ole gerbers spring fell out in seconds lol
Leatherman guy myself...I laughed out loud when the Gerber popped apart 🤣

Love shopping tours ✌️
I’ve actually switched from stream light to Coast and there amazing.
I think it would be interesting to see you do a full kit from bladehq. Obviously the knife part would be easy, it's the rest of it I would be curious to see
I’d like to see what another Ace Hardware would have. I know mine has had lost of different mid to high end knives and multi tools…

I like these videos. I have the Gerber Suspension too from way back. Maybe try an Amry/Navy supply store.
I use to have a Gerber but lost it unfortunately but loved it while I had it.
I've had one of those NiteIze 360s for a few months and love it!
Love the video! I'm thinking Tractor Supply for the next vid, unless you've already been.
i have the exact same gerber multitool also from home depot 3 years and still running like new
Please do Tractor supply next. I worked there for two years before I finished my degree and became a teacher. I really enjoyed my time there but I never looked at our products from the EDC scope.
Fastback has a spot on the side to slide an extra blade in but it can get stuck though if you shove it too deep
You should check out their Klein flashlights, they tend to keep them in the sparky's isles, still comparable in price and they are rechargeable.
Definitely check out gander mountain or something like that if it have anything like that near by. They sometimes have ok stuff!!!
Have a Gerber similar to the one you have. Mine has a lot of years on it but not much use. Have a vitranox in my pocket that gets most of the actual use while my assisted opening knives are fidget toys for the most part.
I had that coast flashlight for years it's amazing
Great Vid! Would love to see what you dig up at Traffic Supply
I agree with the other posts about some type of drug store Walgreens, CVS, etc to see what type of first aid kit you come up with
I got a Gerber suspension nxt about a year ago and is still good condition and haven’t had any problems with it

Gonna need to leave the state, but Buc-ee’s (TX) would be a great place to shop for an EDC setup.
An interesting place to try would be a large truck stop. Not sure what you have in your area. Love's, Pilot, something of that nature.
Great video! I always love these! Interesting to see what things you find local to you! You definitely try and do one at dicks sporting goods! Keep up the awesome videos 😄
What is that sunglasses strap contraption???! That was slick
Definitely try out Tractor Supply next!
You should try a carry from Auto Zone. A bit of a challenge, but they do carry some budget knives next to the register.
For the same multitool as the Gerber, the Leatherman OHT do the same things, and it’s better.
I think Cabelas could be interesting since you already did Bass Pro, get a chance to really compare how similar and dissimilar their inventories are.
I could use some cool EDC I love the Milwaukee fast back
What kind of sunglasses clip did you put your shades on. I NEED that! Please respond
Cabela's would be a cool video, or maybe some sort of unique to your area outdoor sports store
I think you should do a legit middle of nowhere Tackle shot/gas station best EDC. As someone from NC there are some random ones out there.
So I was watching your video and the way that master link was put on when you closed the pliers the bottom pushed it off the pins easy fix put the master link bCk on open side to the tip of the pliers

Idk what it’s like where you live but maybe target or a big5 or Walmart? Here in Oregon they have probably enough for a decent edc set up
