It is the problem with DCS; after MSFS2020, the DCS world looks a decade old and it needs life at airfields and some civilian air traffic routes on loop. Anyone else wish that ED worked with MSFS?
@@andrewdavies3584 I dont think it would ever happen. Give ED some time DCS keeps getting better and better. Remember it is a combat sim so I'm not sure how may Civ airlines would be flying in restricted combat airspace? I think military logistic air routes would be a great idea.
Great explanation. Right now I see a lot of people treating FARPs in DCS like they are more permanent FOB. So hopefully people learn something from this video. Also, when you started out with "Fast jets have the edge in range, maneuverability and speed..." I thought you were going to follow up with "but helicopters have undisputed dominance in their ability to loiter over swimming pools where I can snag some sweet pictures for bunk time later on". But then you had to get serious on us. Still a great video. Thanks for sharing.
You have no idea how much I wish ED would add a lot of the good object, structure and vehicle mods as standard to DCS. Great video giving a perspective on what a FARP is. The fuel line drawing made me chuckle.
0:08 That's when I paused and pressed like :) 4:44 FARP items from PC, that's what I'm looking forward to, taking things a step up. Those old "FARP" pads simply don't cut it. But we do need to have something at the FARP that actually makes it act in DCS as such, so you can request R&R. I remember Heatblur adding roadbases to DCS for the Viggen, but that never worked in MP and ED simply wouldn't want to address the limitations, which was a big bummer.
It has been some years since I touched the editor the last time, but the helipad objects are not the only objects that makes a FARP a FARP. Mobile command post vehicles can also be used to create interactable FARPs.
Do you know if actually refueling and reloading with the new FARP objects is possible? Until now you need to be in "physical contact" with the bloody "FARP hill" and we crave a way to get rid of this limitation, especially in multiplayer.
@@CasmoTV This will be a game changer for helicopters and the AV-8B. Finally doing forward operations from realistic, small FARPs instead of the abomination the current "4-pad helicopter base" with its mountain beneath. Fantastic news. Hope it works out.
Part of the reason practical AV-8B harrier farps aren't really a thing. Too much stuff needed. At least that's what i've seemed to gather. Have you come across any farps for STOVL aircraft like harriers or F-35Bs?
The brits did something like that in the Falkland war. They put down a FOB for their Harriers near their landing site at San Carlos: www.thinkdefence.co.uk/san-carlos-fob/
@@realQuiGon Yeah, but like so many FOBs created for harriers it was quite the aurduos task, and really only existed because of the very limited range and time on station the harriers had operating from their carriers that other fixed wing aircraft operating from larger carriers wouldn't have had a problem with.
@@gerardheil8303 Yeah, they actually constructed it as an emergency landing field IIRC, so Harriers that used up a lot of fuel in dogfights or had other emergencies that prevented them from returning to the carriers could land there. It was a very small number of Harriers that actually had to land there I think.

This is 3y old now. I hope the Kiowa finally gets released this year
ED did such a good job with SuperCarrier they need to make an animated FARP.
Yessss
Agreed. Put in a feature request with ED on the forums for an animated crew and setup for a fully function logistics system on a FARP
imagine if they call it Super Farp! lol

I appreciate it.
Great video Casmo. Very insightful!
Very helpful.
Based of this I will be relocating my FARPs and have the vehicles arrive and depart at certain times.
Cant wait to see this implemented in DCS
really enjoyed listen to this video , Thank you
Missed this one mate, great explanation, thanks 👌

Who knew it would take over 3 years to bring the Kiowa to DCS.
100/10 great job really like this video!
If you ever have a problem locating the FAARP, especially at night, just look for the most dangerous approach, ie next to towers, wires, etc
I miss the ground Crew on the FARP .
This is one of the thing where ArmA 3 is better at, in some of the missions I run we have dedicated players as the FARP crews.
Ground crew = kids

Does DCS allow for animated human-unit mods?
Even the stock infantry could do with an overhaul in the animation department.
Yes they could. Best animation they have is super carrier.
@casmo tv,
Do you think the Kiowa would be mature enough to demonstrate some FAC and buddylazing capabilities?
You mean before release? Once we get to that stage we will show it all off.

Yes, before release, does the current development state accomodate for that?
