This is a MIDI cover of Field of Hopes and Dreams , one of the overworld themes from the game DELTARUNE. It is a game by Toby Fox set in a similar universe as Undertale. Hope you enjoy!

I tried to make it similar to "Legend of Aokigahara" from ZUN's CD album "Retrospective 53 minutes". Especially around 1:39. I wanted to convey the same feeling as what ZUN did in the album.

I always felt that from 1:40 it naturally sounded like the kind of instrumentation you'd hear during a stage theme in a touhou game.
I felt it from the start with the frenetic piano

I thought to myself when I heard this theme, "wow toby's really getting into those touhou-esque soundtracks." This is so good.
Maybe that's why I didn't notice much of a diference in this cover 😅
Unfortunately I haven't played much Touhou in my life to pick up the details here.

Look up "Apple Girlington" and you'll understand... Toby has been "getting into Touhou-style soundtracks" since at least Homestuck
He's always had a bit of Touhou in his music, and the combat in his games reflects that as well. This is certainly one of his most obviously inspired, though.

ZUN touhou albums are always my favorite things (more than his game songs imho)

I love the allusion to asrial Toby fox made, even with the music 1. It’s called “field of *hopes and dreams*” and just the feeling of the song makes me think of rainbows and stars or hyperdeath,
I dont know the technical music terminology but this song uses the same key and chords used in asriel's Hopes and Dreams. You could interchange the songs halfway through and they'd still flow pretty well. In fact i really want a remix where they do that.
Yup, since as we all know Ralsei is the Anagram for Ralsei. Toby's really good at giving cheeky nods to UT through Deltarune, I'll admit.

I was thinking "This is an amazing cover of Field of Hopes and Dreams, but I'm not really feeling the Touhou in it-" and then 1:40 hit and I realized how wrong I was. This is impressive.
Never heard the original theme song. Frantically listening to Smooth McGroove led me here tbh, but I stayed here way longer than I should've. This is amazingly well done! I literally felt like I was in one of the stages in touhou games. Now I really need to listen to the original. Thanks!

Ralsei and Asriel are different, the Dark World is a parallel to the real world, theres even Sans 2 but they are different

The best thing about this is that Field of Hopes and Dreams is already supposed to be in the style of Touhou. Hell, Toby even made it start like a Touhou song with the visuals

Lamiaroid I read somewhere that Toby learned from ZUN to save the best songs for the hardest bosses, so the player can remain engaged in the boss because of the music.

My main (and probably only) gripe with Toby's music is how it loops. The songs are amazing, the way they loop turns me off.
In what way? I didn't know there were multiple types of looping.
Reecekun some of the songs loop in weird ways, for example, the forest theme abruptly cuts off when it loops. This song’s loop isn’t to bad imo but I can see it being sorta annoying. The song’s a bop tho so that keeps me distracted.
@@reeceulf So Toby loops his songs (I'm not too sure about Megalovania--I'm too tired of that song to remember) by continuously playing the song on a loop. The way that he does it, however, makes the loop seem very obvious like it's screaming in your face "HELLO I EXIST!!"
When you look at games like Pokémon, the loops aren't as obvious and is more subtle. You can definitely tell where the song loops back, but there isn't an awkward silence or build-up in the middle of the battle.

A good example of how looping should be is ScarletFlameFlandre's looping of Kasen's fanmade theme, Rumble Temple. th-cam.com/video/QBnEqcrbjIY/w-d-xo.html
You can hear the loop starting back, but it doesn't start with the drum intro that was in the very beginning. Even if you're concentrating on playing the game, hearing that drum every loop would get very annoying. Also, the composer of the song added a coda on the second iteration to add more variety.
While some games do loop their songs by just repeating them over and over, the transition between each loop isn't as noticeable. The composers made it so that the transition seem more natural. Take for instance the hub themes from Sonic Unleashed.

@@ivatigerfox2548 That's an expression. Not a popular one for very obvious reasons, but it's what you call a song when it's good. It's on the same tier as "that's lit."
Also I see what you mean. I thought you were going to introduce me to new music terminology, my bad. I can see why that might annoy you, but I think the songs loop fine. It all flows in and out nicely how you'd expect the score to flow after removing the amount of layers he did. It does cut out juuuust a tad on this song though.
