I found the bigger 1800mm FMS PA-18 much easier to crash than the Apprentice. The PA-18 taught me to keep speed up on the turn to final. Now I have another FMS 1800mm PA-18 and am flying better. I would not call these beginner planes but it is a great plane once you get the hang of it.
As for the haters? That’s all their deal. If they are hating on you, they are giving someone else a rest. Just curious about the elevator twitchiness? Would a mechanical adjustment of the control rod to a different hole on the control arm make a difference????? Nice looking plane. I’ve always had good luck with FMS planes. Fun video. God bless
Yes on the twitchy elevator! I have this one. Moved my elevator 2 notches back and pushed the CG as far forward as possible. Prayers for no bad servos!!!!!
Missed opportunity to show how to adjust servo horns for less throw, that's the OG way to adjust when there were no computer radios with expo
Its not only FMS that have bad cheap servos, I have the Eflite Turbo Timber Evo, and out of the box bad wing servos. Also here on YT several case's of burntout servos on the Timber. So great way to crash your 300 + dollar plane because manufacturers are cheaping out on servos
You may not be the best pilot on the planet. Who cares, you and your wife are enjoying ourselves and having a great time. God has truly blessed you both.

More landings please! I have learned to quit flying with full flaps, especially on takeoffs. 1/2 works fine and is even suggested in some of the manuals? For these beginner type planes I love since I fly off of gravel roads I usually don’t even use flaps if there is any headwind. Otherwise, I use 1/2 flaps on the majority of landings. Just watch other people fly them, full flaps and most often they will bottom out in the last 1-2 ft. I do practice with full flaps just for fun, but it requires constant throttle input. Thanks for showing both sides of flying crunchy foamies!
It is fitting that as I watcherd/listened to this tonight I have been reviewing various RC plane "plans" (yes...build it type plans). I have determined that 2023 WILL be the year I get back into fixed wing RC. Indeed I have ordered a Night Radian (using the link from your video) and picked up a Great Planes PT-19 (Balsa/Covering) ARF from a friend who runs a hobby shop here in middle Missouri. For the Night Radian I had hoped to set it up with my old Spektrum radio...but at the end of the day decided I will order a new Spektrum transmitter (do you have a 6 or 8 channel Spektrum YOU would recommend) and the recommended receiver (there is also a company that makes a module you can use to "change" the lights in flight...so that might also be a thing). For the PT-19 I'm ordering the power plant/system and a couple servos (and hope to have it air worthy in a couple weeks...I've got a mostly modern 8 channel Futuba system I'll control it with). I'm looking through my plans as I DO have a "60" size motor/ESC that could be used...and thought it might be nice to actually BUILD something to put it in (I used to love building more than flying). Thanks for your continued honest reviews. Praying all in your family are well...and Abby is doing great with the pregnancy. God bless. (Oh...with regard to the "negative" comments from your earlier maiden of this plane...it's not "angry pilots"....is just angry people...with 3.25K subscribers....I fear you will have some malcontents at times). Believe it or not, I've only crashed my most simplest planes to fly like the timber and the radium pro glider. Never the ones that are more difficult to fly for some reason. I think it is because I just tend to be more comfortable and fly more recklessly with the simpler ones.

Nice demo, I recently was bench testing an old name brand servo and it started smoking, wiring was normal, this looks like a more advanced level plane with the flaps,
I fly mine on 4s 2500 👍🏻😎 Really fun to fly. Landing gear/tires are awesome.

the reason for all the traxxas videos is that there is so much of it out there. traxxas and dji is available EVERYWHERE. you ask even the nonconsumer if they have heard of dji and traxxas they will.

Yea... That thing was 100% goin down regardless of what you did. Saw that vid right after I lost Timberly Arecrashedagain (umx tte) due to stuck servos. Rudder, elevator and ailerons had all been sticking on bench tests... but I started as a basher so I sent it... 😬🤦🏿♂️🤣🤣

That’s crazy. My plane did the same thing last week. And I thought it was because I put the wrong prop on there and the server broke after the crash but I’m thinking now the servo went out and did the same thing you’re plane ✈️

When you lose elevator, you need altitude for throttle to maybe help save the day. On take off right after initial lift (while still gaining speed) flaps deployed or not...tough situation. Let the haters be haters who cares! Nice plane otherwise. I have the 1700mm and love it.
That’s good to hear about your 1700mm version! Yeah, I’ve played this over and over in my head quite a few times. I think IF I deployed flaps at the right time, I MAYBE could have saved it and possibly landed it. Just wish my brain worked faster in the moment. Thanks for watching! 👍😎⚓️
My Conscendo has had two servos fail. The servo works, but jitters alot. I am going with metal geared servos. Not sure what's going on with Horizon planes, but I have been having issues with quality control on my last two planes from them.
Interesting fact: The original plane (N3817Z) doesn't have the raven on the fin.
I don’t know, but it looks like you could’ve saved the first one if you had throttled up to level off, I guess we’ll never know lol

It looks like you don't have any down elevator mixed in with the flap settings. That would help tremendously with flap takeoff and landings.

@@TheRcSaylors Oh yes, I missed that part of it. Seems like as a RTF model with flaps that they should have baked that into the receiver or something. You would never want to use flaps without an elevator mix. That's a recipe for a crash. Especially a person that is new to the hobby. It would have been better to not have flaps on this model then.

Move the clevis one hole out on the elevator, or one hole in on the elevator servo yoke, that should calm it down a little.

I bought the same plane and had flown it twice before the same issue happened with the same results, stalled and crashed I am a scale flyer and I have contacted FMS to see if they will give me some input on what I should do next.
If I had been unsure of the elevator on the first plane and wanted to fly it anyway I probably would have switched the elevator and rudder
servos a bad rudder may not have brought it down. Just my thoughts.

I want to replace the main wing of my carbon cub s2 but you have to dissect the electronics out of the original one to install them into the new one. I am a beginner pilot and that worries me I don’t wanna mess it up

May not have been the servo. May have been a radio/receiver failure. I've seen that flysky transmitter do the same thing you demonstrated on the throttle stick when manipulated up and down quickly.
How durable would those tires be in a desert environment? Those tumble weed needles are sharp and stick nicely in Styrofoam.. Just curious.

i just bought one been watching lots vids like yours its got a 3536 850kv motor 40amp esc 11x7 prop , if i run it on 4s can i drop the prop to a 11x5 or 10x6 my 3 s packs only last like 5 mins and its a pita taking 10 of em to the park i got some real nice 4s packs would last longer if i wont burn anything ?
use 4s battery gonna be better , trust me ! and do not turn too slow

Which one do you like more Nate, this one or the FMS Super EZ?
Oooh, good question! Hmm.. I think the Super EZ flies more in my flying style than this, and I’ve heard it can handle 4S without changing anything out. If that’s true, EZ wins for sure but I have to test that. However, the PA-18 1300mm would be more of a “travel plane” with me if I’d never flown at a location before or knew I was flying off grass. That ground clearance is insane!! 👍😁😎⚓️

Any chance it was an intermittent signal from the RTF transmitter and not the servo on that first flight?

Valiant flies WAY better, but this has a lot of features that the Valiant doesn’t offer 👍😁😎⚓️

Good 2nd Maiden on new plane. It was honorable of the company to give you a replacement. Parts can be or go bad. So owning up and replacing plane shows Good corporate attitude. yes 100% get the bnf and use your own rx or buy the rtf and bind to the Flysky rx. I did it the bnf way myself, but the RTF would be just as easy.

trainer plane should be tough, nearly unbreakable. Those engine cowlings should be a lot tougher , wing struts should be of tougher plastic. Rc industry needs to make a upgradeable tough trainer .

You NEVER takeoff with full flaps, well not in 1:1 scale anyway. Full flaps produce more drag than lift - and you set full at 90deg?

Hello everyone, I'm making airplane and drone production videos on my channel. Your feedback is important to me. I want to do things like in this video in the future.
You should NEVER take off a foamy with any flaps at all. They are so light that they don't need any assistance to get off the deck, which you will do at far too low a velocity to maintain a good climb rate without tip-stalling... so you'll rail on the throttle, which will roll the airframe no matter how much counter-rudder you give it.
Just leave the stupid flaps up! Take off naturally - no need to plow a bunch of throttle into it! No need to try and yank the thing off the deck in 10 feet at 9 mph!

I decided I was tired of repairing aircraft from them taking off before they had enough airspeed to properly climb out.
You must not have had your fill yet and enjoy a nice ugly tipstall after a 4' takeoff roll.
But that's OK. You do you. I'll let my aircraft roll out and gain flying speed. Maybe get fewer repairs in the process.
Not gunna lie I love taking off with flaps super slow and a slow climb it's just beautiful looking
If you want to fly a STOL scale then you do want to use flaps. Not a problem if the plane is set up right with an elevator mix and if you are a good rc pilot. Needed? No but nothing wrong with using flaps for take off.
Not sure your crash was directly as a result of the servo. If it was dodgy why didn’t you change it first? It leapt into the air as you rotated with full flaps and loads of power. As you keep saying the elevator is responsive so I imagine on your first flight you over did it. You even said that you removed power and flaps when it was climbing - removing power when vertical is only ever going to result in gravity winning! Understand the laws of physics and don’t keep blaming a servo for pilot error!
I then noticed in this video you did your full flap take off with stabilisation on! That nice climb after takeoff was probably then gyro restricting your climb rate!! I believe that to be misleading.
Not at all. the gyro didnt do this. cheap parts. Servos fail. even 29g futabas fail. go fly and see.
