Hey, I'm going solo (Female) in early Feb. Do you think there is any issues with me going exploring the town by myself? I was thinking getting a taxi there and then one back. And is USD okay for the island or should I bring pesos? thank you much for this. I am kinda bummed at only one bar, but hoping the pool service is decent.
Hi Melisa, The pool service was generally quite good, BUT it did not start until 10ish am?(I am struggling to remember exactly what time) I do know this irritated me once or twice. I should also mention that while it is only the cozy bar, The bartender in there was fantastic, several times It was just me and him.. did not feel weird at all. he is just attentive enough and will engage in conversation, but not try and force anything. 100% bring USD that is what everyone wants.(and most places take credit cards) I have absolutely no worries at all about you going solo to explore via cab during the day, especially the north touristy areas. I think if you take a cab once you will be familiar enough with the route that you would be just fine taking your own golf cart into town for any subsequent trips as well... all that said, because of where the resort sits you do have to traverse some long stretches of backwoods and I would not be comfortable with my wife doing that solo after about dusk, so if you want to do the nightlife thing, get a rapport build with a cab driver just to be extra cautious.
