It is great tool and I saw your video just in time. Thank you very much Gal! I am now editing big reportage from event and it will help me to save a lot of time. Like your tutorials very much)
This type of editing applies to the 80/20 rule. It allows you to get through that first 80% fast and allows you to get to the most important 20% faster.
Thank you for taking the time to clearly explain how this works...other videos say things like "yes you delete easily"..but don't bother to actually explain the short cuts etc..well done!
love this for any interview based editing - will save a lot of time watching, editing and cutting down interviews when you can clearly see and edit from the transcribe. I think the 'remove all pauses' button would be an amazing feature and as you say help us save time with a one click action! As you say you still need that human interaction to see how it all flows but love this info - thanks for the update!
there should be an option to automatically add 'constant power' to the cuts when editing this way. Reason being if you are cutting out a specific word, you will want the audio to blend rather than jump. Also would save a few clicks having to manually add the effect afterwards.
One thing I wish you would’ve done here (I’m 4 mins in so far) would be to better distinguish how this differs from the built in auto transcript and text panel. I haven’t tried deleting transcript pieces to map to sequence cuts but this is so integrated and blended it’s hard to know what it is or isn’t adding. I wish you just made the distinction a little clearer. Going to have to play with it myself I guess, thanks for sharing either way!
#1 feature would be a second set of text based data to indicate best takes and to tag b-roll clips. If you could roughly edit in b-roll via text would be awesome and would get close to a rough cut without needing to touch the timeline
I often will forget to talk about something and add it mid way in the recording. If I don't rough edit right away, I'll forget and editing is a mess. I can see this being useful to have certain keywords so that I can search for it and move it to the right section!
Awesome video. Can’t wait to get stuck in with this. Imagine a time when you upload a script that someone has read from a teleprompter and the transcription can then remove everything unrelated (to a certain tolerance), such as “I’ll do that bit again” and perhaps highlight repetition for editor to review for best take 🤯
Been using Descript for this. Nice to see Adobe including the feature. Descript has the filler word feature you wanted, but it also struggle a bit with pauses. Editing with descript sometimes feels a bit buggy, with missing words and pauses. I´m sure all of this will be fixed in future versions.
We use Audition a LOT for our podcast network and I can’t help but think Adobe must have transcript editing for Audition if they have it for the much more complicated Premier…but I can’t find anything about the Audition version. Can I edit audio using a transcript in Audition?
I'm in the same situation. I want to use text-based editing in Audition. I don't use the video file. I'm struggling with learning Premiere because I need to edit multiple sound source files in a conversation where sometimes people talk at the same time.
Hopefully there will be a way to add to my editing workflow that will help get through the rough cut faster, I can also see using this to split the audio tracks from two people to treat them differently, that would really be helpful. Larry
I have 7 audio feeds (one for each speaker) and 5 cameras... How do you properly do it so that when auto-transcribing the audio it will put the speaker name the same as the audio feed?
I see what you mean, but I could imagine that being a far-reach of a request for the first release. But the good news is that you can search for keywords from your script within the transcript already -- so one step there!
Please, can you replace a word with a different word, during text-based editing? If yes, how will the new word be pronounced? Is it going to be with a clone of the speaker's voice or just a random robot voice? Thanks
Pretty cool Tutorial Kelsey, as of today the Edit to Text doesn't have the Delete all ellipses..., I would definitely vote yes for that feature. I notice in a live stream talk show/video interview we did a few months ago. In the text edit feature, it doesn't recognize the distinct voices so it treats the audio as one audio source which is a bummer. Especially when we didn't record each video source separately, I know in other services like Happy Scribe can pick up the distinct voices, so we could try to output the CC text to pul into Premiere Pro and see if it can create the transcript identifying the different voices?
I would be super interested in a tutorial for video podcast editing. How much of it could you set to be automated. Often Premiere already Identifies speakers like 1 & 2, so I wonder if you could tell premiere to cut when the speaker changes to cut to their angle. Maybe it's too niche for premiere but I would love to know if there is a way of doing something like that.
Yes! This new transcript workflow would also work well for podcast editing. I would sync the camera angles in the timeline or create a multi-cam and then use the transcript to build a rough cut!
@@PremiereGal Thank you for the response. I am working with the multi-cam tool (3 angles). Just to make sure I am understanding (and i will have to test this out to get a better grasp myself) but after I process my transcript thats going to give me a panel that is going to be helpful for finding the start and stop points. Which is better than looking at audio waves, but is that the extent of its ability right now in that domain?
@@waytogohudson Basically you can make your multi-cam sequence and use the text panel to transcribe your multi-cam sequence with multiple speakers, you can then extract (delete) portiona of the text and pauses from the transcript and it will create those cuts in your timeline

If I send my client a full transcript of an interview...and he cuts the transcript down to just the portions wanted (a "paper" edit basically)...Is there a way to import that edited transcript into Premiere and have it auto-assemble a make a sequence that reflects the edited transcript?
Let's see if I'm getting this right... if I have a collection of 30 clips that are all transcribed and subtitled inside of Prem, I could export the subs, edit them as a text based doc, feed them back into Prem and then Prem would create a rough cut style compilation for me? When selecting multiple clips within the timeline panel, if I lose the selection by mistakenly clicking on a clip cut, how can I get back the selection of clips I had so that I don't re-select them one by one? @Premiere Gal
I havent it tried it yet, but I imagine if you place a multicam into a sequence and then Transcribe the sequence using the text panel, it will work! :)
Update: I tried it and it does work on a multi-camera source sequence! For some reason my clips (an A and B cam of an interview) did not properly sync at first and I did not catch it right away. Hello Premiere Gal, wondering if you can help. When I lay my interview in the timeline and transcribe it for selecting my soundbites the timecode now being referenced in the transcript is the timeline's and not the original timecode of the clip. So if I go back to editing from my source monitor, I can't jump to the timecode the clip actually has. Is there a way to reference the original timecode when I transcribe? Thanks for an insight.
This is a great video, but I wonder why you didn't mention Descript by name? I assume you are aware of it. The Descript app allows you to remove filler words and to delete pauses.
Hey Desmond I did mention descript by name in the intro and the other tool Transcriptive Rough Cutter thats been around for years. I also linked to Descript in my description box.
Hey Premiere Gal. I make videos where I recite the English meaning of the Ayats. Now, the problem is Adobe makes tons of mistake in transcribing my voice. As it's the ayats of the Quran, I do already have the transcript of what's spoken in the video. It would mean a lot to me if you teach me how to just add the texts to premiere pro and premiere pro automatically just synchronize the words. PLEASE HELP ME! Thank you
Text based editing really speeds up my interview editing workflow but HUGE HUGE WARNING TO EVERYONE USING IT: There is a massive bug in premiere v23.4 Where if you’ve used text based editing and move to another system and relink your media. Premiere resets every edit in your timeline to the in point!! So effectively undoing ALL your hours of edit work. My advice is don’t do it until the next release where it’s fixed. It’s fixed in the latest beta version too. But my god what a heart attack when I saw the timeline. Luckily I had an auto save which I opened on the original computer before the project / media was moved and it was all fine. So I exported an XML of the timeline and imported that into the latest version of the project. Phew. But seriously guys - BE CAREFUL THIS ISN’T STABLE YET.

So if I go back to editing from my source monitor, I can't jump to the timecode the clip actually has. Is there a way to reference the original timecode when I transcribe? Thanks for an insight.
My recommendation is to double click on the source footage from your project panel to pull up the transcript at the clip level
@@PremiereGal Thank you!
we love You :-))
Always favourite love you
this filler word removal would be a game changer in my opinion. It's like the ai just completely ignores ums and doesn't show up in the transcript
As soon as AI technology enables us to create movies, I will be making my own movie. Still waiting. I can see it coming soon.
Great addition! But this might take a lot of system power.
I'll do a system usage test on the beta vs regular and let you know. So far, running smooth on my end!
ADOBE: add shortcut: filler word removal & right click delete
This is a great video, but I wonder why you didn't mention Descript by name? I assume you are aware of it. The Descript app allows you to remove filler words and to delete pauses.
Hey Desmond I did mention descript by name in the intro and the other tool Transcriptive Rough Cutter thats been around for years. I also linked to Descript in my description box.
@@PremiereGal That's what I get for multi-tasking. I saw Transcriptive Rough Cutter, but not Descript. My apologies.
Can this be as good , if not better than Descript?
Hey Premiere Gal. I make videos where I recite the English meaning of the Ayats. Now, the problem is Adobe makes tons of mistake in transcribing my voice. As it's the ayats of the Quran, I do already have the transcript of what's spoken in the video. It would mean a lot to me if you teach me how to just add the texts to premiere pro and premiere pro automatically just synchronize the words. PLEASE HELP ME! Thank you
Filler word removal would be awesome! So... Uhm... Yeah... And...
P Gal back to the real editing…..
Text based editing really speeds up my interview editing workflow but HUGE HUGE WARNING TO EVERYONE USING IT:
There is a massive bug in premiere v23.4
Where if you’ve used text based editing and move to another system and relink your media.
That's crazy
Try it out and let me know how it goes!

WHY DO YOU MAKE ABOUT THE AI VIDEO EDITORS. WE DO NOT LIKE THE TYPE OF VIDEOS THAT YOU HAVE MADE ABOUT THE AI VIDEO EDITOR. THIS IS MY REQUEST TO YOU.
Send that transcription to GPT3-- tell it to "shorten" and suddenly you have a thoughtful paper edit, automatically generated in-timeline.
Oooooo, now there's the innovation! :) However, can GPT3 know which takes are best delivered? What about cadence and sarcasm ;) ?
@@PremiereGal I think the "transcription" step will soon go deeper than just copying words. Inferring tone, rhythm, and even subjective take "quality" are all trainable attributes, if the dataset is good enough. I expect we'll see these tools third party before Premiere. It's *manual* editing software after all.
@@videowizard_io true. But there are 5 ai tools inside of Pr. I imagine they would be interested in buying or licensing these 3rd party apps as they get developed. I look forward to trying more out!
It's a pain in my ass, that's what it is! Now our copy editors think that they can do my job, lol. So, I'm linking your video for all of their video depositions. 🤣🤣😊😊
not me looking at my phone several times throughout this video...
We need filler removal
adobe is killing avid. They better implement some real usual features in media composer soon.
The best AI tool was already the auto transcription and subtitles, but I don't prefer this text editing. Maybe for fast pace content, social media, it works. BTW: silences are underrated. So much noise nowadays. Thanks for your analysis.
Such a boring way of editing
I don't think Adobe cares about efficiency at all. I think they prefer slow workflow and wasting time 💪

Why the all-caps mate? Also you write "we" as if you're talking for everyone's opinion and not just your own. This video is a Premiere Pro update video, which is one of the most popular types of videos I make. Of course, I will continue to make other types of videos "how to do this effect..." "Music video effects" and more. I'm always open to requests too! Hope all is well and take care.
