i for one do miss the "gross", horror-themed arts of early yugioh. It made yugioh more unique, it looked cool and it's Takahashi's original idea anyway (season 0 is all horror themed, all of his subsequent villains used some kind of horror theme too). It's just the spirit of yugioh. Maybe I'm the only one but the cutesy madolche/sky striker/fortune lady/performapal/dragonmaid etcetc really don't resonate with me. Not just because I don't like it personally, but it's also knowing Takahashi wouldn't design cards like that. It's great that there's something for everyone, fully true, I just wish they'd still do things similar to the old style
A bunch of cards from like 5Ds onwards are very overdesigned, and it's so difficult to pick out what you're supposed to be seeing on the artwork. Say what you want about cards like IDK, fuckin' Mechanical Snail, but at least you can glance at it and comprehend what you see without having to squint and study the artwork.
I was about to comment similar. The art comments about the "ugliness" of the early cards got me a little sad because, personally, I love the early "wtf are these beings?" water color art. I can't deny that the card art now is prettier and should be praised as such but, like both vtubers mentioned, the art got more anime for visual appeal and lost its "grit" so to speak. Makes me wonder how they would design cards nowadays if they redid the new ones in the old style.
Me in a nutshell. Incredible artwork = great archetypes. Possibly the reason why I still climb the ranks in Master Duel with Crystal Beasts, despite them not being viable without a lot of staples. Mekk Knights are also spectacular like you said. I generally like cards that are colourful but aren’t too “busy”.

Not sure how many decks were banishing their opponent's cards en masse back in 2003(when it was released and a month later was set to limited) to 2005(when it was forbidden)
@@JJJ42069 Nobleman would be the only one that really saw heavy play, and Soul Release I think was a side deck option for some match ups. Even if you drew all three Soul Release you'd have to recycle it and mill your opponent to get your full value out of that (and frankly banishing 5 to prevent Chaos/DAD is probably enough to stop that for a few turns in old school Yugioh). Sounds more convoluted than the Gishki FTK. Frankly you'd be better off using Necroface and Gren Maju to facilitate a banish strategy to OTK the opponent than doing Fiber Jar shenanigans, but I understand why it's banned in the sense of tournaments and potentially dragging out games. Flip monsters are pretty slow. Even if they brought it back I doubt it would make all that much of an impact outside of scripted duels and the like 1/1,000,000 replay on the casual ladder of any sim, if you can successfully banish your opponent's entire deck, you probably won anyways.

First time I've been 7/7 playing along with this. This round was very easy in all fairness, but considering the guest this week was basically a complete novice, it's understandable why you'd hold back. The only one I was hung up on was Sakaretsu Armor, and that was only because I wasn't sure if Mirror Force was around at almost the same time. Well done to Mari Mari though, for a novice to get 6/7 even on an easy round is still impressive.
i think fiber jar's coming back but they're gonna hafta slap a hard once per duel on it. reason being, in the tins they came out with a crystal beast fiber jar that also does a double search from gy and the only requirement is a level 10 needs to exist somewhere on the field at the time of the initial activation of the trap. they did it before with yowie and they realized it had no impact so yata and time seal came back. we're getting fiber jar at some point a few lists down the line.
The Crystal Beast trap needs to have two different types of level 10 or higher monsters on the field to activate, which means that it's either an overly specific counter or you have to get rid of your own extremely high level monsters to use it, and it's not like it's trivial to summon those kinds of monsters. The kind of deck that actually wants to activate such an effect would not be able to easily do it. Fiber Jar is so much easier to use in comparison, so I don't feel the Crystal Beast not working would say anything about Fiber Jar.

Six out of 7 for me on this one, not going to lie the adhesion trap hole almost got me due to my logic of "well... it could be a niche card... you could take out a big bad boss monster/prevent a OTK, and work around that field of play."... Still, I figured with how much other cards that would arguably be better that was out there at that time (Granted my knowledge is VERY limited for anything during ancient sanctuary and beyond) I still guessed right on it being ultimately bad. Funnily enough that logic didn't carry on over to neo spacian grand mole, and I thought... nah, with cards like fairy meteor crush or mad sword beast, or any other card that would rip through its defense or attack, that would be quite the risk to one's life points, and while I know it is a bit of a meme/accepted fact that life points do not matter until the last bit, they do still matter to a point, still one should be careful getting low if one doesn't have a boss monster of their own that they can summon/have the life points to spare.
Everyone else using logic and facts: falls for the gaslight because they over think it MariMari going with her gut and pretty pictures: literally cannot be gaslit.
Got them all correct, Grand mole was the only one I was unsure on, but I played against a guy who used it irl back when I was very new, and I hated that stupid thing so went with it was good and it payed off.

Dragonmaids may not be meta but, after trying them on Master Duel (bought the structure deck twice to play them without the junk included in there), they seem pretty capable. Their Battle Phase is a free Salvage and the whole deck is pretty straightforward: use Chamber or Parlor to fetch the Fusion Spell or mill Tidying and Fusion Summon Sheou on your first turn (or House for Battle Phase field clearing; if you haven't used Changeover's graceyard effect so far, you can still go into Sheou afterwards). Hospitality is a neat extender and Chamber can revive your boss monsters at the start of the Battle Phase.
Marshmellon saw a good amount of play since it was a spirit reaper that dealt 1000 and didn't die to enemy controller and other targeting effects. People eventually went back to reaper though since being able to attack directly for a card in hand was more valuable.
I mean 1) theres no really "mean" comments except for 1 or 2 out of all of them and 2) its dismissive to say theres too many kids ruining it. This is just people who love their hobby and are criticizing her logic since she comes off as extremely casual to the highest degree. Shes fine and whether theyre fair comments is another matter but its like listening to someone who knows nothing about cars talk about an engine in an old muscle car. traditionally it's bad, but i started using Adhesion Trap Hole in Traptrix on Master Duel because with the cardpool i had, there was no other way to get over big monsters (after firing all summon negates), and it prevented my monsters from being walked over in some situations as well. The new support they're getting does this much better but it was serviceable it many situations for me.
in order to get the best value of chosen one, all three have to have an activate effect in gy and the monster's effect should be able to be activated the moment would be sent to the gy, while s/t gy's effect should be able to be activated on the same turn they would be sent to gy. Good luck there.
Okay, the Mashmallon-kirby thing made me realize, Marshmallon isn't kirby, Relinquished is kirby: sucks up enemies to gain their power, then, when you take damage, you lose that power, but can suck up a new enemy. I wish Alters were more of a thing in Yugioh, so I could get one of Kirby-Relinquished.

Dragonmaids may not be meta but, after trying them on Master Duel (bought the structure deck twice to play them without the junk included in there), they seem pretty capable.
Their Battle Phase is a free Salvage and the whole deck is pretty straightforward: use Chamber or Parlor to fetch the Fusion Spell or mill Tidying and Fusion Summon Sheou on your first turn (or House for Battle Phase field clearing; if you haven't used Changeover's graceyard effect so far, you can still go into Sheou afterwards).
Hospitality is a neat extender and Chamber can revive your boss monsters at the start of the Battle Phase.
They're definitely a good starting deck for new players. Modern enough to learn the newer rules and extremely cheap for what you get.

Marshmellon saw a good amount of play since it was a spirit reaper that dealt 1000 and didn't die to enemy controller and other targeting effects.
People eventually went back to reaper though since being able to attack directly for a card in hand was more valuable.

I mean 1) theres no really "mean" comments except for 1 or 2 out of all of them and 2) its dismissive to say theres too many kids ruining it. This is just people who love their hobby and are criticizing her logic since she comes off as extremely casual to the highest degree. Shes fine and whether theyre fair comments is another matter but its like listening to someone who knows nothing about cars talk about an engine in an old muscle car.

traditionally it's bad, but i started using Adhesion Trap Hole in Traptrix on Master Duel because with the cardpool i had, there was no other way to get over big monsters (after firing all summon negates), and it prevented my monsters from being walked over in some situations as well. The new support they're getting does this much better but it was serviceable it many situations for me.
in order to get the best value of chosen one, all three have to have an activate effect in gy and the monster's effect should be able to be activated the moment would be sent to the gy, while s/t gy's effect should be able to be activated on the same turn they would be sent to gy. Good luck there.

Okay, the Mashmallon-kirby thing made me realize, Marshmallon isn't kirby, Relinquished is kirby: sucks up enemies to gain their power, then, when you take damage, you lose that power, but can suck up a new enemy. I wish Alters were more of a thing in Yugioh, so I could get one of Kirby-Relinquished.
