    We used this with my older high schooler in 9th gr and absolutely loved it.
    We focused on S.E. Asia, that is where is interest was. We still talk about The Girl With Seven Names. It really spoke to us. We used the cookbook some but not as much as I thought we would. Looking forward to doing this again with my youngest but will do the whole curriculum this time, that is the plan anyway.

    Hi!
    This was so informative! I will have to check out World Watch News. Being video-based, it could be an excellent addition to our bare-bones geography this year without taking on too much more. We have 'A Long Walk To Water,' but quite a few of the books are new to me. Plus, thinking about ways to gain high school credits is something I have to start looking into. The struggle of not having gone to school here :)

      @homeschoolingthroughhighschool  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      YES! I'm a Ja-merican. Culturally, my family raised me as a Jamaican in the states. We had families from Trinidad in our Jamaican church. As a matter of fact, our dear family friends from Trinidad, made my wedding cake and also created a feast for the wedding party for the day we opened gifts. I've been to Jamaica three times that I can remember (possibly one more as a young child). So glad we could connect.

    New subscriber here! I really love your content, so thank you for all you do! I wanted to pick your brain for a moment. I work from home full-time and homeschool my 8th and 9th grader. They are pretty independent and only require my attention when they need help with something, of course. I like everything I have learned about this curriculum and feel that it’s something my boys would like, as well. Do you think this curriculum is do-able in my situation?

    • @homeschoolingthroughhighschool
      @homeschoolingthroughhighschool  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What a lovely message to wake up to. Thank you. 😊 I’m going to say yes because you can tweak the juices out of this curriculum and they’ll still learn so much. I set up the schedule so that my 6th-9th grade kids could use it independently. “I” did choose to read/watch some things with them but other than that, they worked independently.
      If desired, the Jr. version, now aligns with the high school curriculum. I have content on that as well as how I actually scheduled/tweaked the items to learn. At time stamp 2:30, is where I share how I schedule. th-cam.com/video/0mWQbDf1k5A/w-d-xo.html
      If you are interested in the revisions-alignment of the jr. edition for your 8h grader, look for the pink thumbnail video titled Revised Jr. Guest Hollow Geography curriculum.
      Now, with all of this, please lmk if you have additional questions. This is why I’m here. 🌻

    Would you still recommend this curriculum now that your children have gone through it? I just recently purchased it but after looking through the videos listed in the schedule and book list, I’m now hesitant because of the volume of “heavy” material that might be too depressing for a high schooler.

    • @homeschoolingthroughhighschool
      @homeschoolingthroughhighschool  ปีที่แล้ว

      I would 100% still recommend it & here’s why.
      So I skip any and all content or books that might not work with my kids or our family. It’s customizable that way. You’ve got to think of it as a buffet. Pick & choose what you’d like from it. There is more than enough to equal a high school geography credit even by doing it this way & possibly a literature credit. I speak about this in another Guest Hollow video & I show how I pick and choose the schedule for the week and what I include.
      If you visit any of the Guest Hollow FB groups, you’ll hear the owners and others suggesting this method as well.
      They have since updated the Jr. edition to match the high school version. Sometimes, I use the jr. books instead. 🌻
