I got a Smoke Top as a gift and just winged it for my first creation. I used Angostura Bitters, Peychaud's Bitters, 2 oz bourbon (1792 Small Batch), 1/2 oz Fernet Branca, 1/2 oz Licor 43, 1/2 oz sweet vermouth and a splash of Luxardo cherry syrup. The smoke works very well with all of these ingredients and I probably overdid the smoke but it still works. This turned out better than I could have imagined and I've dubbed it: Camping with the Sopranos
Here's an idea, can you try this? Put the big ice cube in the glass, then smoke the glass with ice in it (no drink yet). The ice will cool the smoke and make it sink to the bottom of the glass (theoretically).THEN pour the drink into the glass - I wonder if the smoke will infuse better that way instead of just sitting on the top. Nonetheless, that's an interesting experiment.
It’s all to taste. You could do something like this, which would be the equivalent or close to the equivalent of stirring in the smoke. Stirring in the smoke will destroy the natural tones of the bourbon. If you are someone who likes extremely peaty scotch…. Maybe that is for you though! Cheers 🍻

@@dylan-nguyen hahaha! Maybe 😉 No for real I’ll try. But I think this device is not designed to work that way. It’s actually the flame that push the smoke down. As soon as we stop the torch, the smoke also stops from being release towards the cocktail.

I think, as I say in the video, the fact it’s made of cherry wood adds to the performance. Glass would be neutral indeed but would probably cost much more and we wouldn’t get that extra flavour. But yeah why not
Hey! Entering a couple cocktail competitions here soon and was curious if you have any tips for taking pictures of my entries. Because we're still doing the digital thing due to covid I'm supposed to submit images of the cocktails I'm creating. I'm no photographer but want to make sure I do my cocktails justice. Curious about the best lighting techniques, background, best lense for that focal length etc... You guys always have such awesome shots of your cocktails! Thanks!
Hi Cody! That's a way too complicated matter to answer in a comment. I suggest you look at tutorials online for product photography like the ones Peter McKinnon does for example. He has some very good tips. Good luck for your entries. Cheers!
I really like to buy one for my home bar, but unfortunately shipping to Germany seems not possible.. I just ordered a cheaper "copy"... hopefully the results are as amazing as from the original!
I don't know what impressed me the most - the Smoke Top or this beautiful Old Fashioned glass 😍 I mean I'm so fascinated by it mirroring the color of the drink to the bottom of the glass! Back to the topic: How does the Smoke Top work? Does it only work with chilled glassware? Cause I mean I could explain it by physics why the smoke settles into the glass 🤔
I thought the same at first but I haven't experienced any of that potential issue. The same way I'm not concerned about that when I make a Crème brûlée.
I have difficulties infusing the smoke into the drinks. Tastes nothing like what I’ve ordered at the bars. Not sure if it’s the wood I’m using, or if there is something that I’m missing. It looks easy enough.
Both method work. They just have a different impact on the cocktail. Before will yield more taste and after will give you more aroma. I personally like the later better for the Old Fashioend but yes, before is recommended for a more intense smoke flavor. Cheers!
1:51 maybe I'm wrong, but isn't that description the exact definition of sponsored content? No judgment at all though, there's nothing wrong with sponsored content, especially for cool and exciting products that you actually believe in. 😀
so not really. I know where you are coming from, but it would be a sponsored video if they have actually paid him to show the product. Gifting someone the product is not considered sponsorship.
@@fabsconti Fair enough I suppose. I'm more familiar with how things work in the music industry, where an artist will have a sponsorship deal with a company where they are given free/subsidized gear like microphones or instruments in exchange for promoting the product, so I hadn't really thought of it as a gift. That's a good point though.
Me: I NEED this **sees shipping to my country is 45USD** Welp, back to my homemade wood piece made from a regular log 🙃 Still though, this looks amazing! I can only hope I'll have enough to buy such a thing one day

Do you think the product would be better if it were glass, potentially less taste contamination and I assume easier to clean?
I think, as I say in the video, the fact it’s made of cherry wood adds to the performance. Glass would be neutral indeed but would probably cost much more and we wouldn’t get that extra flavour. But yeah why not
I need to know where you got that bottle for the demarara
Amazing presentation dude. keep'em coming
Thank you so much! Cheers!
I apologize to my smoke detector now... I'm convinced to get one!
HAHAHA!!! Sorry for your ears too
It doesn't look like too much smoke comes out, so hopefully your smoke detector will be okay. They are so damn loud!!
Is that an echidna on your ring!?? I want one! :-)
Cheers!
I highlly recommed Brazilian Rosewood chips.
SOunds good!
Love the content and presentation!
I'm really curious about his mixing glass, is there a chance you would share where did you purchase it?
Thanks Janis. This one I got it at Alambika in Montreal. There’s a link to their shop in my description if you want. Cheers
I really like to buy one for my home bar, but unfortunately shipping to Germany seems not possible.. I just ordered a cheaper "copy"... hopefully the results are as amazing as from the original!
I know it sucks! I’m sure soon they will change taht
What Kind of whiskey did you use?
Bravo good sir! Love it!
Thanks man!
I used the promo code and got the discount!
I don't know what impressed me the most - the Smoke Top or this beautiful Old Fashioned glass 😍 I mean I'm so fascinated by it mirroring the color of the drink to the bottom of the glass!
Back to the topic:
How does the Smoke Top work? Does it only work with chilled glassware? Cause I mean I could explain it by physics why the smoke settles into the glass 🤔
The power of the butan torch is what pushes the smoke in the glass
Anybody know what kind of whiskey glass that is?
Where'd you get that syrup bottle. It's not in your description
That bottle is from a designer from Ontario in Canada. I don't know their shipping policies but look for studio 50 and you should find them. Cheers
What is the round glass with the square base that has the syrup in it?
It's from Studio 50 in Ontario, Canada
Nice.
Over $200 in shipping to Australia! 😂
Damn, wanted to pick one up for work so badly aha.
Damn LOL Sorry about that
Where can I get that round syrup bottle with stand and does it come with the syrup 🤔 nice video earned my sub👍
Thanks! It’s actually linked in the description under « concrete base glass bottle » I think
Great Video
Thank you!
Does smoking whiskey make your drink more acidic?
I want to try this but I'm allergic to smoke 😢
Probably even chases it down with a Bud Light 🌈
Awesome! Definitely on my wish list for Father’s Day :)
I think it will be a great gift idea this year
I'll be dropping hints all month now! 😂
Does it matter how long you keep the smoke contained in the glass?
It does. And if you smoke the ice before pouring the cocktail will also affect the result.
So how long do you recommend letting the smoke stay in the glass?
Where does one find an angled mixing glass like that?
Hey Sam, look at my referal links. It's there
I love it!! Can't wait to try it also with food. Like to smoke a pieces of meat or fish. I think it's gonna be amazing 🤗🖤
et j'ai trop hâte que tu le fasses ;)
Have you seen that one on kickstarter? Do you think its worth it to back?
I haven't
Does burning the chips over the glass accelerate the melting of the ice below or heat the glassware?
Hi Winston! Maybe a bit but I guess that's the price to pay for a smoked OF.
Are you concerned about getting butane in your cocktail from the torch?
I thought the same at first but I haven't experienced any of that potential issue. The same way I'm not concerned about that when I make a Crème brûlée.
@@TrufflesOnTheRocks good point! It’s a cool product, might have to order one for myself
I didn’t even know this smoking thing existed until now. Is it just to get a smoky flavor or something?
It is a way to add smoke taste and aromas to your drinks yes
Inunciate
I have difficulties infusing the smoke into the drinks. Tastes nothing like what I’ve ordered at the bars. Not sure if it’s the wood I’m using, or if there is something that I’m missing. It looks easy enough.
I’d love to help you finding a way. So first question, what do you use to smoke your cocktails?
Top Notch
Thanks
for how long you should leave it smoking?
Up to your taste but a few seconds like 10 is plenty enough
@@TrufflesOnTheRocks ok thanks for replying
Love these smoked cocktails. We are currently using Pecan. Not a fan of Bourbon tbh. Its too sweet so we use real whisky.
Love pecan! I wonder what you call real whisky HAHA!!
Bourbon is real whisky bud lol.
You were supposed to cover the smoker with a lid to allow the alcohol to mingle with the smoke flavor for a minute or two
nice, but too mutch ice for me , i get it tje bartender trying to save money but if im home only two small ice cubes for me😅
You were very precise on your directions, but you never said how long to smoke it… I guess that is up to personal taste, but what would you suggest.
Just a few seconds will do. Cheers!
Aren’t you supposed to smoke BEFORE adding the drink?
Both method work. They just have a different impact on the cocktail. Before will yield more taste and after will give you more aroma. I personally like the later better for the Old Fashioend but yes, before is recommended for a more intense smoke flavor. Cheers!
Aren't you supposed to smoke the glass before you put the cocktail in it?
Does this turns in the smoke detector?
If you make a smoked cocktail party it might LOL
Skip ahead to 2:45 👍
1:51 maybe I'm wrong, but isn't that description the exact definition of sponsored content?
Wonder if I can use weed instead of chips
Not gonna tell you what to do or not to 😉
Are you from Québec?
Yep
Me: I NEED this
**sees shipping to my country is 45USD**
Welp, back to my homemade wood piece made from a regular log 🙃
Still though, this looks amazing! I can only hope I'll have enough to buy such a thing one day
It's 39,84$ shipping it to Germany 😁
@@CoffeinCowboy The "pain" of wanting to buy American products when living outside of the Americas, man
So sorry guys :(
@@TrufflesOnTheRocks Oh you shouldn't be! It's cool to just watch! We poor Europeans will hopefully figure out a way to get our hands on this!
🤩
U look like the bad guy in the movie "bait"
smoke your glass and ice cube while you mix the cocktail... you'll get a more intense flavor!!
That’s true. I realized it after a few tries. Tbh, I also like it with more aroma and less flavour sometimes .
Starts at minute 3:00
That was 20 not 60 revs 😏
I counted.
