Thank you for your years of service to us, arglefumph, you are synonymous with the nostalgia and the overall legendary status that these games have taken for us over the years. Cheers.
It feels nothing like classic Nancy Drew! The music, the graphics, the characters, the magnifying glass, the movement.....all feel nothing like the award winning series. It was clunking and removed all the soul of this franchise. Feels like any random game. So heartbroken.
I miss in old games where the phone characters were largely optional but still had lots of fun dialogue to hear whereas in this game all the phone characters are required to talk to and yet you barely ever talk to them even in texts
I know! I wonder if this is because they stopped having the phone contacts give you hints, like in the past. So there is less of a reason to call and check up on them. I know we get some help from Ned in this game, but I think it is mandatory and not optional. And we don’t get to hear his voice since most of it is text. :(
i think recently there have been more free-move style point and click mystery games (like call of the sea) and maybe unpopular opinion here, but im not entirely sure it serves the genre well. like its great for the atmosphere, and is a great usage of the enhanced graphics. however, when you need to be focusing in on clues to a puzzle, it feels a little too open, and you can easily get hung up on microexamining the scenery for anything that might be relevant when youre stuck. it also feels like when youre in more limited areas, like spaces that have invisible walls, or semi-artificial barriers, even if they get removed as you progress, i think the free movement style makes it feel more like youre on rails in those moments. dont get me wrong "i need the key" will always be irritating, but "i need the key" when you could possibly just climb the dang fence cuz its right there and oh heres a nice box to stand on etc. is so much worse
Me and my mom used to really bond over watching for videos so thank you for that. Some of my favorite memories are of me and my mom trying to follow along with your play throughs during Covid and dramatically failing. We love you so much and thank you for those beautiful memories! 😊
I think I figured out the necklace ending. You need all the achievements except the "Find all Czech words". Since you need the "call ned first" and "call Carson first", you can't do this in the first run. Then you need to get all the Czech words, open Eliza frame backing to unlock mom dialogue, and find Marek's residente pin on his desk. I got it after I did this.
I wasn't a fan apart from me randomly finding an Easter Egg (2, actually) all on my own, and how they actually had Nancy being attentive towards Ned for once. 😂
I finally got the game and finished it this weekend! I agree with a lot of your points. Overall I liked the game, but there were a few times where I felt lost even though I was playing the amateur mode. There were two separate times where I couldn't progress the story because I didn't click in the EXACT spot and I was walking around and clicking everywhere for an hour like a crazy person so that was frustrating. I liked most of the puzzles and I thought the plotline was interesting. My favorite part was the amount of characters! This is probably one of the largest casts in a ND game, BUT I thought seeing the same five NPCs copy and pasted next to each other was super unsettling.
Love the video! I know everything is centered around this game right now but I really loved the no commentary play through and would LOVE one of each of the Nancy drew games!
My main issue with the game is that the game wasn’t tested enough, there are so many bugs in this game it’s insane. I had to restart the game 3 times just to beat it because I kept running into game breaking bugs
I was a bit worried about this game because Midnight in Salem was awful and made my laptop crash 3 times so I couldn't even finish it. But since this one is a lot better I'll give it a go.
People saying it doesn't feel like the older nancy drew' Haunted Carousel didn't feel like the originals, Icicle Creek didn't feel like the the games before them, Lost Queen didn't feel like the Renaissance games... The games evolve and change over time. This one is a bit of a bigger step than the evolution before, but it feels like it fits in with the rest of the series, and it's the next natural step. I'm really liking the free roam system.
No it doesn't. It doesn't feel like Nancy Drew at all. I have played through all of them up until these last two multiple times. All of them fit together nicely, even with their differences. This game is Nancy Drew in name only.
The mechanics are bad. The click and point is what we want. The moving was blocky the characters look unfinished the VA sounds like a valley Girl sorority girl not a detective. Those other games were different but the heart of it was nancy drew and this isnt
I think this is the first game that didn't include a teaser to the next game. I am deeply disappointed in that. I hope this isn't going to be the last game, because I can't image that they would only make two games with Unity. I can only imagine that they just didn't know what they were going to do next, so they didn't include it. But, if I remember correctly, the teaser for Midnight in Salem wasn't like this game, but maybe I'm remembering incorrectly. Though, neither of these games are better than the old games. I want Lani back. I don't like how a lot of these puzzles were hard and didn't make much sense or give you much information about what you were supposed to do or how to find out what to do.
I also really missed Lani. I thought the new actress they got sounded like she was doing a reading for an AI or Alexa half the time with how stiff her lines were delivered. I think if maybe they put more thought into the puzzles and properly giving hints for them like in the older games it would play better. as it is i felt like the whole sequence of events and setup for puzzles was messy and haphazard. like why do i get all the info for reading the astrological clock from a text conversation with Ned? shouldnt it be in a book or maybe set up in a mini game earlier?
Came back here to say that I’ve seen a claim that you have to find all of the cards to unlock the puzzle at the end where you discover the necklace’s true owner. Not sure if it’s true or not
"Everyone has pretty much settled on an 8 out of 10" for the score. Wizard Kitten raved about how much better it was than MID, then gave it 32 out of 50, for a D+ grade, most comparable to Trail of the Twister, or about 7 games from the bottom. By contrast, your MID review named it about 4th from the bottom.
Ahhh, kitty. Probably not quite what she wanted LOL The kitty does look like Hotchkiss would be a good name. LOL The strategy guide does help a bit if they hints don't. I enjoyed having both modes because point and click was great for getting to things but the modern mode as great for being able to explore the areas. Better view.
dang.. after the "cliffhanger" ending with Joe(?) was it joe?, in MID you'd think the Hardy boys would be in this game more.. that's kind of disappointing.. like they set up a story line for them to be there so well.. i wanted like a love triangle drama moment lol
Get a cat! Are you in Northern California? i have the sweetest spicy kittens who will steal your heart. We trapped them at a colony. They are 6 weeks old right now and will be ready soon.
Was it better than Midnight in Salem? I was so bored the entire time and there were so many gameplay flaws that just made everything more annoying. Ugh. I miss old Nancy Drew
The fact people are giving this an 8/10 is absolutely crazy. The mechanics and movement is bad. It doesn’t have the heart of a nancy drew game like i get they were trying to evolve and make changes but it just isn’t hitting it with the idea of nancy drew
I'm bummed. I am still having trouble in the Latte Art even though I uninstalled, refunded and repurchased -reinstalled the game. sent messages to the powers that be for a work around or fix but have heard nothing. I am so annoyed because I just want to play this game on my nights off and it is not possible.....grrr.
Check your graphics card level and the requirements for the game. That was my issue. I then installed it on my husband's pc, and had no problems. I thought my graphics card was GREAT because it plays other high functioning games, turns it that the card was just below minimum requirements for KEY.
There is at least one person on Facebook who has a saved game for this and is giving it out to those who request it. Try asking there in the Nancy Drew Fans page.
I’m glad people like the game but many of us would prefer if they kept the games in the style of Sea of Darkness. Also hiring a new VA was a bold move, but it just adds insult to injury when said VA is terrible regardless if it’s by the direction or the actual talent.
No offense but your wife is way too hyper fixated on cats, nearly every comment from here was cat this and does it have a cat that, and it started actually frustrating me, not trying to shit talk or anything but definitely hit demishing returns on the cat references fast
“we can name him divorce papers” JAW DROPPED
GIRL SAME like shook to my core
LOL I lost it
I hate when Mom and ArgleDad fight.

Exactly.

It felt like real phone calls in older games. I was always excited to set aside time just calling people after a few events happened

I love where Ned says something like call him anytime and then you call him and he doesn’t answer
I now need the, "Everything Wrong with Mystery of the Seven Keys" video.
Starting a petition to get Katie a cat right meow! 😻
“He’s a 10… but he has a puppet puzzle.” 🤣

6-hour Peppa Pig marathon sent me 😂
The salt was on point 😂
katie’s hard hitting question about hot guys was a major highlight here. love the guest appearance 😂
I do remember there was a task that said get Katie aka the Wife a Cat. You might have missed it but you should do that task. Get a cat
That's not a cat, it's overcooked pasta with a face!😂🤣🤣
I was reminded of Garfield...who does like his lasagna 😂
@@morgansides294 The new Garfield Movie is awesome.
Kept meaning to ask when this review was coming out! Katie was hysterical in this. I hope to see Divorce Papers in future videos.

Cats r love, cats r life, get a cat, for ur wife! Sincerely, Sonny Joon & Erica too!
Get Katie a cat!
Instructions would have been great.
Details on latte puzzle would be great, like hey, this is cold water.
At least they didn't sway as characters.
A kitty might provide support while puzzling :)
My cat always sits with me during pc gaming

It really is a lot of fun. Great mix of old nancy and new nancy
It isn't a lot better though. Not even close.

Thank you for saying that about leos office puzzle bc I thought I was going crazy lol i’m like THIS IS RIGHT ????
great to hear that its great because im waiting for it to release on steam and have been avoiding spoilers
The latte art puzzle was worse for me than writing Nancy's name in Shadow at the Waters Edge.
Came back here to say that I’ve seen a claim that you have to find all of the cards to unlock the puzzle at the end where you discover the necklace’s true owner. Not sure if it’s true or not
Michael: Can we name him Yuri?

LMAO
I thought the hardest puzzle was the puppet puzzle! Half the time, I wanted to pull my hair out it was so frustrating!

I liked the characters and plot but the actual puzzles and graphics and frustrating controls really took it down for me. I think I’d give it a 6/10.

And Adela.
And Radek 😅😅
No. Dylan Carter and Ned are the only two that matter. 😂
Get your wife a cat! Just do it, man.
Thanks for the review! I am so glad to hear that it's better than Midnight in Salem!
I have watched many of your videos over the years but I have never seen your face until now. You look exactly like I thought you would.
