    Heya! So just a few fixes for those in a newer version of unreal (I'm in 5.4)
    - Wind Force: Either disable it or set it to something like x: 10, y: 10, z: and Wind Speed Scale to 2.0. This will help contain your cloud alot more. Then in turbulence, set the scale to about 8, Frequency to 2 and Turbulence flow duration to about 2 as well. Play around with this, because it really gives it that tenticle look. Not sure if it's what you want, but worth looking into
    - Point attraction force: Set the strength to about 80 and enable falloff exponential and set to about 0.2
    - I disabled gravity but up to you
    - Set your drag to about 80
    - Set your Curl Noise Forces above a value of 1
    The rest is up to you, but it should start putting you onto the path of something less "swarm of bugs" and more "Typhon from prey"
    Hope it helps :)

      To clarify: If, when you apply the "scale mesh size" effect, all of your particles disappear, do the following:
      1. From the unity main view, double click your niagara asset. This will open the view he spends the majority of this video on, with the node map.
      2. Click the orange top part of the "hanging particulates" node. On the right side of the window, an attributes area will display. It will show regions like Emitter Settings, Emitter Spawn, Emitter update..
      3. There should be a search box at the top of said window. Inside, type "mesh"
      4. Your view should pop down to an option called Mesh Attributes -> Mesh scale mode. If it doesn't, use the arrow buttons in the search box to navigate through the results of the search. It should be the 1st result.
      5. From the dropdown, select "uniform."

    Using UE5 and following along, it took me a lot longer to get this going properly than I expected. My tip is to do all of the steps in the video (even if you're not seeing the same thing that's being shown at the time) because a few things are out of order, like discussing the Drag force. Also, there are several updates and helpful tips in the video description and the comment section that helped me get a result I'm happy with!

    In 5.0 after you set the mesh size to UNIFORM in the Mesh Attributes, you can then (In that same section/panel) add a FLOAT FROM CURVE that does the same job as the original Scale Mesh Size node in the tutorial (Use that same size setting - 0.13)

    • @damingy
      @damingy 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@calm455 I had to tweak a couple things a little bit to get it working well in UE5. Increasing the Falloff Exponent (I ended up with 0.7) on the Point Attraction Force helped, I also reduced gravity a ton, and for the 'Wind Force' in UE5 I set the scale to 6.0 and the Frequency to 0.2. Definitely still not as cool as his but it's close :/

    I'm using 4.26 and getting very different results from the point of adding the first curl noise. The particles just form themselves into a long tube sort of shape. ...Actually just had a thought half way through this comment and tried setting the noise frequency to 1, which gives me something closer to the video. I guess maybe they changed the unit scale for this at some point?

      yeah same here

    • @RationalAxis
      @RationalAxis 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      You're definitely onto something with the frequency there, I tweaked the values up on both curl noises and had much more similar (although not exact) results. I noticed that the newer version also adds a non-zero random seed to these, whereas it seems OP's seed defaults to zero.

      In addition, the drag module uses a random range with this sample emitter. If you select the drag module, select the drop down next to the drag value, and select "New Local Value", it'll allow you to set the constant scalar value to 1... at 4:40 he finally sets it to 10.

    If you're following this video and do everything right(and still see a big flying mess like I did, despite the Drag) turn down the wind speed and wind speed scale to 10.0. That literally changed everything for me.

    Hi! Great Tutorial, how did you get the background to look the way that it is? did you play with the skysphere?

    In UE5 (5.0.2) when I implement this tutorial, all I get is one big "tentacle" of particles. (yes, I used the fixes for the 4.26 version from the comments)
    The tentacle itself rotates but it looks nothing like the finished result from this video.

      @@hallociao9981 I just discovered a possible fix: Scale it down to 0.2 (uniformly) when placed in the world. For some reason the result looks much closer to the tutorial than before

      What worked for me was to increase the noise frequency at 3:40

  • @TyRDiM

    So, I tried to repeat after the author, as you might have guessed I got a different result. BUT if you play with Curl noise 1,2 and Point Attraction, you get something similar...

    Hi Sem, I have succeeded in making the same effect from your video, but there is one problem, my scene has a lot of light sources, and my question is - how did you manage to make Niagara follow this particular bulb of light? I don't know how to do that in my settings. Everything that you pointed out, I already did. (with some corrections because I work in UE 5, the latest version).

    This is so awesome. I didn't think it was that easy.
    Is this expensive - performance wise?
    Can you control and change the variables from an outside script on the go?

    Awesome stuff!! I recreated this in an environment, however I couldn't get Sequencer to record the point light . I added all the elements to the Sequencer as well- very weird.

    You can always get away with lots of particles with a curl noise... they have no use at all, but they do be looking cool tho.

    Hi! I'm using Unreal Engine 5.4 and I have a problem: the vortex, wind, point of attraction and curl noise don't seem to have the same effect of the video, I tried to set the values as you showed in the video but they result in a unique globe of particles. How could I fix this? Thank you!
