around 2004 to 2008 in high school you couldn't get away from these shoes. I've had several pairs and loved them. Funny i came across this video because i seriously haven't even thought about them for several years
Recently DC‘s been killing it with the younger crowd Specially girls. I’ve been selling them like crazy at work. Can’t keep them on the shelf so it’s kind of cool to see them get a little resurgence.
Being a skateboarder and working in skateshop around 2007, I noticed how popular they were that people would buy them just to wear their logo, yet the soles were so crappy that they would disappear after just few months of walking. I was begging people to get any other brand from Sole Technologies or Fallen, but many went for DC and never came back to our shop ever again.
Shoes are highly subjective, in and out of skating. I had a lot of success as a teenager with DC, Vans were quality but had less grip for their earlier shoes in my experience. Etnies I can't even wear because I technically need EE- 4E wide sole. Obviously there's the more objective element of high quality materials and cost to quality ratio but other than that, wear what you like. Even tho I liked DC, I originally got them cuz I liked the look and their riders lol, tho back then they were market leaders unlike the late 00s and after.
DC's demise really comes from it's parent company Quiksilver going bankrupt 2015 along with other mistakes along the way. DC's footware is still in itself, the best vert skate shoe next to Vans. That's just my opinion as a 20+ years vert skater.
It would indeed be interesting. QS’s quality has dropped significantly and throughout its product range. At first I thought it was just being unlucky, but the problems have been obvious for about a decade now.
I worked for quiksilver for years! Lost my job when they closed a load of stores in the late 2000s - the quality drop was huge, especially in the ski stuff. I think it’s actually got better since. They also had some really wild design choices, particularly in the Roxy lines there was so much really ugly stuff, and so many sub-brands that made zero sense.
In 2001 I had the Josh Kalis "The Truth" pro model and bright blue "The Reason" Stevie Williams pro models that looked like basketball shoes. Best era of skateboarding late 90s early 00s. I remember the DC movie being big in 03 and Dyrdek introduced the world to his own personal security guard, Big Black Christopher Boykin, to deal with security guards who were trying to stop Rob from skating. RIP Ken Block!🛹🙏🏾
I still rock DC even though I don't know about their history. It's unfortunate to hear that it's not that big compared to how it is now but, I feel it's still getting some more popularity due to nostalgia and people rocking more of a early 00s style
I’ve always been a huge DC supporter since late 90’s. I used to tell everyone that they were the Nike of skate shoes, before Nike even made a skate shoe. I hope they can figure it out, cause I still love this brand🤘

You could say companies like Lakai or Emerica fell off but not DC.
I rocked DCs in the early 2000s. They were a good-looking, solid feeling shoe. A couple of things that this video caught my attention. Why did DC support surfing? Did surfers show up to surf wearing them or flip flops? Why wasn't Dave Mirra mentioned in this? He was one of X-Games biggest stars from 2000 to 2010 in DCs nearly that entire decade. A large portion of Mirra's fans wore them because of him, and the other riders that they sponsored. Snowboarding? DC would just choke because they supported more athletes who weren't seen wearing them.
I still rock DC. just got a new pair. Seen a comment on here about them falling apart but I'v never seen it my last pair lasted me 3 years and they were the only pair of shoes I had.
I still wear DCs and they have been the only shoes I wear (except for work) since about 2003-2004. I tried every skate shoe and they all wore out as fast as a payless pair. DCs held up though, like you said I've had multiple pairs last me 2 - 4 years.
I remember the iconic skate-shoes brands: Emerica, eS, Etnies, Circa, Lakay, DVS and so forth!! No the the brand is Nike SB... Well you know, I die for a pair of Reynold's Emerica.
They were going to open up a shop in Huntington Beach and suddenly the construction stopped and discontinued for years till a pawn shop opened it up. Go figure
Etnies, DCs and osiris. Those were the shoes people i'd hang with would wear back than. I just bought a pair of DCs a few months ago for fun and wear them every day.
DC's were my jam when I was skating as a teenager in the 90's. I remember specifically owning "Plugs", they were sick shoes I loved them so much. They were ultra comfortable and looked awesome. I have DC's still but since they're all white shoes, or mostly white I don't wear them regularly. I honestly didn't know Quicksilver bought them in my 20's, interesting.
DC is definitely making a comeback in the uk, and in the snowboard scene they haven’t gone anywhere, they make good baggy pants and warm jackets so il always rock dc 🤙
I only ever wore DC and Emerica shoes growing up… I did have one pair of those gnarly ass Osiris shoes, but I was in grade 8 then and it was the most popular shoe around 🤷🏻♂️ Now I’m 37 and I still only wear DC and Emerica shoes lol. It’s a tell for me though… people who see my shoes and go right for their ‘history’ or whatever aren’t people I wanna skate with, but when people just say ‘sick shoes’, that’s like code for me, and it means ‘I don’t give a shit about brands and just ride what I like to ride, wanna do kickflips now?’ 😄
Ye! Literally happened to me same last year with suede ones :/ Not even soles worn out somehow that started leaking water from there but also some rubber sides cracked a lot in different places :/ And to make matters worse they didn't last a year even though, they weren't my daily or heavily worn out shoes 🤯
It’s a shame. I used to wear a lot of DC shoes up until about 5-6 years ago. I bought a pair of red suede DC tonik’s which were really comfortable and supportive but wore out within literally 4-5 weeks. The sole was coming away from the upper and some of the stitching was starting to come loose. Which I wasn’t impressed with as they had cost me £85! I took them back to the shop I bought them from who told me to email DC shoes, who responded and offered me 80% of my money back because I had been skating in them but they agreed they shouldn’t have fallen apart that quickly and after such little use. I bought another pair because I really liked the shoe. I’d had them for a few weeks and decided not to skate in them to make them last longer. I wore them to a family bbq and one of the kids asked me to kick their football back to them, which I did and then noticed that the suede in the toe box area of the shoe had a 1” rip that wasn’t there prior to kicking the ball. Since then as much as it’s pained me giving my money to a large company I’ve bought either Nike janoski or adidas buseniti because they’re about the same price but last a lot longer and seem to get better with wear (to a point) It’s a shame because I always felt like I was part of a more exclusive club wearing skate only brands like DC és emerica globe etc. And I always liked the DC logo and what the brand stood for. But the quality just isn’t there anymore
I loved what they were about and seeing Rob Dyrdek and Travis Pastrana rock them always I HAD to have them and they were some of the best shoes I've ever worn and they were the only shoes I bought for a long time. I come from a background in motocross and when they pulled out of BMX, they pulled out of moto soon after. Sucked to see and they seemingly went into obscurity since.
Just got a new pair of DC snowboard boots that I love. Not sure about how their skate and lifestyle branding is going, but I know their snowboard community is relatively okay.
As a skater in my teens and just in general still love the fashion approaching my 30's. I stuck Circa and Vans. I kept it simple. My shoes last forever.
Was a big fan around the time the DC video came out. They had a really great team at that time. I guess the impression I got was that they got really massive & kind of struggled to adapt when the trend in skate shoes pivoted away from chunkier, basketball influenced shoes. Would suck to see them go under, but I think they ultimately made the same mistakes that a lot of skate shoe companies have in the past. Think Airwalk or something like that.
I still wear dc shoes to this day, in my opinion there’s not many others that compare in quality and comfort to actually skate in. I did not watch this video I just came here to say I’ll still wear them as long as I can find them in my size 😂
💚Ive given DC so much of my money over the past 20 years. I match them with my clothes. Even wear em on dates or xmas parties. My steel toes for work, look like DC😜 “Court” model. They dont kill my toes, for example converse all star bent my little toes inwards while I was a teen. But gawd damn, can they PLEASE make them not wear out in the soles. Sucks to have a well taken care of pair, let water in so quickly. I basically have to wear them, as I can basically go 1/2 size up or down, and one foot is smaller so the cusion compensates. Also, with every DC I have, gets a heal gel pad. I fuckin hike in these things😆 These days, I only stock up when they are in discount stores. Im not blowing 80-120€ on falling apart shoes. A shame. I have had like 40 pairs.
They made a recent comeback with the legacy models, John shanahan also kept it slide alive. I think the newer high end models are actually incredibly durable. To be honest every brand is really sucking right now and there’s nothing impressive on the new
I'm legitimately impressed by recent Adidas. Tyshawns are a great skate shoe. Nike's I get holes in one sesh, Vans and DC's are only worth buying pro models and good luck finding any Sole Tech that isn't full price. Converse is impossible to find the skate models of. Last Resort has shit insoles. Everyone else isn't even worth mentioning.
I have a 17 year old pair of DCs I still wear on occasion they are not pristine but I do take care of em. I got into skateboarding in 96 and DC was one of the top dog brands they were everywhere in skate culture and I became borderline obsessed with owning a pair pretty early on as a kid but in all honesty I credit most of that to the design (and I also liked the logo but that's minor incentive). Owned somewhere between 15-20 pairs throughout my life so far and the only pair that I still have left I liked so much that they never touched the grip of a skateboard. It's sad to see the decline of a brand that was such a staple in the community but I'm glad I got to look dope wearing them and fortunately for me very few people where I'm from were into skating so I didn't suffer from seeing too many people rocking them, honestly might have only come across a dozen people at most that had DCs outside of travelling to skate parks or events. Still some of my favorite shoes.
I’ve been skating on and off for over 20 years now. I still skate every day. I tried DC back in the day but I destroyed the over-priced, ridiculously-puffy, moonshoes in weeks. I rode adidas since they were soccer shoes. I figured kicking a ball and running were about the same as pushing and kicking a board. I still ride adidas and I’m stoked that they sponsor skaters I like. Call it corporate if you want but they have been making sambas my whole life and I’m wearing them right now while cruising and typing this post.
I remember getting my first pair of DCs they were the RD 1 mid blacks and i even got permission from my mom to wear them to the wedding, good times… still one of my favorite shoes i owned but i grew out of them and the were wore out
Still the only shoes I wear is the DC Court Graphics!! They just look and feel fire af. Plus they are a must have for every baggy pants rocker. F***k slim fit!
DC is the most popular shoe brand within skaters in the city i live in which is Brighton UK dc also have some great skaters and products so they wont disapear any time soon
I had an orange and black pair of bloc's that I would wear when I was driving in my Mitsubishi FTO. Made me feel awesome. Dorky I know but it mad me feel good.
I had only recently heard of this brand. Recent as in the past year. I can honestly say I didn't know they existed before 2022. I do not know anyone who owns a pair and I have not seen anyone out side of the internet wear them. Also when I first heard about them I was like oh DC comics has a shoe that is cool but then I looked at the site and was surprised to find they have no connection to dc comics. I am glad you answered the question about dc comics suing this shoe brand and how that went. So thanks for that info.
DCs have been the only trainers I have bought in the past 25 years. I'm not a skater or an athlete, I wear them because they (used to anyway) feel really well made. Super comfortable with a really nice supportive ankle - something I've come to appreciate even more as with age came arthritis. My feet feel supported, while walking on a really soft, comfy thich sole. The first pair I ever bought was simply because I wanted some plain black trainers and the only ones I could find to fit the bill were a pair of DCs that cost me about £70. I didn't expect to become a total devotee of the brain, having purchased about a half a dozen pairs of them over the past couple of decades. They really last, especially when you're not actually out there on a skateboard putting them through the ringer. I did feel as though the most recent pair I purchased however, felt a little less sturdy. Lighter in weight and lacking in that reassuring helt. As I said, I'm not into any sport so the loass in quality isn't going to have as much of an affect on me than it would someone out there competing in a skate contest, but this pair is definitely wearing down faster than previous ones. From what I can make out in this video, the company got bought out by people who wanted to cut corners (wow, who could have expected THAT ever happening?!) and now it's ruining the brand by no longer providing a product that people in the skating community can put their trust in. And that's really sad and frustrating. Will I keep on buying the product? Right now, probably. Only because my feet are now conditioned to feel comfortable and at home in this particular brand of shoe. They still have that level of comfort in the sole and good support around the ankle area...and they always have the ones I like in either total stealth black, or black with just a slight flash of colour (I liked the ones with blue and a touch of yellow on them about 15 ago) which is aesthetic I like in a shoe when I'm dressing down in causual with hoodie up and headphones on. I swear I'm cursed though. Because no matter what it is that I suddenly find myself really liking, the minute I send that message of happiness around said product out into the universe, it inadvertently gets discontinued, canceled, never to be seen again. So I'm now naturally going to be worrying about hese shoes suddenly being cancelled. I'm going to have to buy a few pairs I think and keep them stashed away for a rainy day, just in case they do stop being made and sold. Who knew that a video about skate shoes could put me on such a downer. #WhyIDon'tLikeMondays
They were actually great about 5-10 years ago then they started pushing cheaper vulkanized shoes and ditched all the good stuff I liked like the IA, the heathrow. They went backwards
I remember the super suede technology That had me tripping when I was a kid that the souls would wear out first when I was a hyperactive kid doing 100 kickflips a day
I bought a pair of DC boots last year sometime. The first week or so and the heel of the boot is tearing, they have no traction on anything really and they're just not as good as what I paid for. I like the style of it and I wish it wasn't a winter boot but it is nice.
Unless I am missing something, it says this was put up 5 days ago, and it was a good watch and all, but you skirted an issue that seems important, and might explain why Ken isn't putting up any rally car stuff...
6:38 Personally i found out DC Shoes(like any other skate brands) by Tony Hawk's game series(DC Shoes first apperence in series was in Tony Hawk's Underground, maybe in Pro Skater had some DC ads but i can't remember)
I loved DC, had a big ass Dyrdek poster as a teenager in my room, some years before he was anything but a skateboarder. Sucks they arent what the used to be, tho i still have a pair i bought to skate in cuz getting wide sole skate shoes is so hard and they run a bit wide in standard. Vans has some but hard to find EE-4E in stock. Still love some of DCs designs over the years - shoes are highly subjective outside of materials and quality to cost ratio.

I only have dc shoes 😂 and to many
Man the DC shoes are something else, they just go with anything you put on
You know DC was poppin when bigger companies are afraid of em and starting to sue them lmao
My 8 year old son rocks DC shoes 🤟🏻I retired mine when I started mountain biking and moved to mtb specific shoes with a softer sole.
I remember the iconic skate-shoes brands: Emerica, eS, Etnies, Circa, Lakay, DVS and so forth!! No the the brand is Nike SB... Well you know, I die for a pair of Reynold's Emerica.
Droors is arguably the greatest skate clothing company in skateboarding of the 90s.
Elwood was good too.
@@Nuttyirishman85 I can't argue with that. Elwood was top shelf
I liked their snowboard wear, DUB 🍻
Skate boarders grind’n, I grind too. That’s why you can catch me in DC shoes - Chip the Ripper
DC is definitely making a comeback in the uk, and in the snowboard scene they haven’t gone anywhere, they make good baggy pants and warm jackets so il always rock dc 🤙
Dude I haven't watched the whole video yet but I'm definitely getting back into DC again, in fact I'm enjoying DC more then ever
I only ever wore DC and Emerica shoes growing up… I did have one pair of those gnarly ass Osiris shoes, but I was in grade 8 then and it was the most popular shoe around 🤷🏻♂️
Now I’m 37 and I still only wear DC and Emerica shoes lol.
It’s a tell for me though… people who see my shoes and go right for their ‘history’ or whatever aren’t people I wanna skate with, but when people just say ‘sick shoes’, that’s like code for me, and it means ‘I don’t give a shit about brands and just ride what I like to ride, wanna do kickflips now?’ 😄
I wore DC shoes during the 10's and I seen the quality of them drop over the years. They wore out in places you would never think they would!
Ye! Literally happened to me same last year with suede ones :/ Not even soles worn out somehow that started leaking water from there but also some rubber sides cracked a lot in different places :/ And to make matters worse they didn't last a year even though, they weren't my daily or heavily worn out shoes 🤯
@@Litassa I know you are legit from this time because you are using the :/ face!
@@TH3TIMP5 Ye, '98 it is :D
I can say at 46 I have supported and respected DC Shoes since 96 and I dont even skate.
5 point star DC shoes are worth LOOT
I still skate dc…. Lynx zero being my favorite but ill still rock the bulky shoe show court graphics and shred🤣 with some bulky cargo pants too
It’s a shame.
Since then as much as it’s pained me giving my money to a large company I’ve bought either Nike janoski or adidas buseniti because they’re about the same price but last a lot longer and seem to get better with wear (to a point)
It’s a shame because I always felt like I was part of a more exclusive club wearing skate only brands like DC és emerica globe etc.
Bmx and mx is what got me addicted to DC.
Just got a new pair of DC snowboard boots that I love. Not sure about how their skate and lifestyle branding is going, but I know their snowboard community is relatively okay.
I just bought a pair of their snowboard boots, they're great.
As a skater in my teens and just in general still love the fashion approaching my 30's. I stuck Circa and Vans. I kept it simple. My shoes last forever.
My husband and I still wear ours. We're both 30.
I remember riding at the DC Mountain Lab once, it was sick. I'm surprised Chanel never gave them any hassle about the logo.
Falling? They are in all the largest sport chain shops in Canada, like SportChek. They are constantly sold out in certain sizes when I'm in.
Metric Skate are elite skate shoes
ahh those were days, used to rock DC stuff and Fox racing stuff, even had monster merchandise, crazy how I long ago that feels now
Great documentary, thank you for putting this together 👍
Never bought a single pair. I was diehard vans. Now I'm old and skateboarding hurts. Lol
Still some of my favorite shoes.
do you know what model they are? and do they have still have one of the older logos?
I still remember when CCS started carrying DC. They were pretty pricey compared to the Etnies, eś, etc. only the rich kids rocked those DC’s 😮
In high school I had a badass pair of DCs that were Black and Green, I’d kill to have it back
I got giving a pair of these at a young age I cherish them like nothing else
I had the "Endeavour" Wish I could get a new pair that isn't crumbly
Had those fat tongued ones back in the day. When Nike SB Dunks Mids came out, I never looked back.
i just bought a pair of dc's, my dream shoes from my teenage
I miss when you could send a letter to DC and theyd send a sticker/poster pack in the mail.
I remember getting my first pair of DCs they were the RD 1 mid blacks and i even got permission from my mom to wear them to the wedding, good times… still one of my favorite shoes i owned but i grew out of them and the were wore out
Droors Denim my top favourite jeans. Its thick and has nice dye
Still the only shoes I wear is the DC Court Graphics!! They just look and feel fire af. Plus they are a must have for every baggy pants rocker.
F***k slim fit!
"Do not attempt," while showing Danny Way gapping the Great Wall. Yeah, don't worry. I wasn't even thinking about it.
DC is the most popular shoe brand within skaters in the city i live in which is Brighton UK dc also have some great skaters and products so they wont disapear any time soon
Ironic. Im in Finland, but was in Brighton a few months ago. Picked up 3 pairs on sale🤘🏼 Walked the along the pier beach side for miles in them🤗
I had an orange and black pair of bloc's that I would wear when I was driving in my Mitsubishi FTO. Made me feel awesome. Dorky I know but it mad me feel good.
I discovered the brand No Boundaries for skateboard shoes and have not looked back. The shoe is durable and you can feel the board well.
Thx, I'll give them a shot sometime.
Rob Dyrdek is what Jesse Pinkman would've turned into if he had never failed Walter's chem class
I remember the super suede technology
That had me tripping when I was a kid that the souls would wear out first when I was a hyperactive kid doing 100 kickflips a day
I bought a pair of DC boots last year sometime.
If they released all their y2k models theyd be making bank again
6:38 Personally i found out DC Shoes(like any other skate brands) by Tony Hawk's game series(DC Shoes first apperence in series was in Tony Hawk's Underground, maybe in Pro Skater had some DC ads but i can't remember)
The great wall and megaramp clips with the text that says “Do not attempt”. Lol. How would you attempt that? There’s no megaramps just laying around.
Still love some of DCs designs over the years - shoes are highly subjective outside of materials and quality to cost ratio.
casually shows the first ever recorded backflip for the pro dirt bike riders part lol Travis is wild
damn, they were sued by Saul Goodman, they didnt stand a chance lmao
All I buy are DCs. They are the only 90s style of shoes I
can reliably find.
I had some Droors tops before DC SHOES never realised it was related To that Brand.
I never noticed DC was Droors. I had these as a kid
I wish I got into DC shoes. Hence my last name. My first skate shoes were AIRWALKS. I now wear Nike SB
i got some dc shoes a few months ago really comfortable and last long :D
