- This audio clip depicts my preserved 1998 NL202 #256 (ex Serco 407, 977, Light-City Buses & Torrens Transit #256) with its extra loud ZF 5HP transmission.
Adelaide had a fleet of 75 Mark II diesel NL202s (as well as 40 CNG NL202s, subsequently followed by 60 CNG NL232s) which operated from 1996 until March 2023. This particular unit, 256, entered service in 1998 and operated for just over 24 years until it’s retirement in June 2022. These units varied vastly in terms of sound and enthusiasm, though 256 was certainly one of the notably loud ones, hence why it has now been preserved.
It joins 3 of its sisters in preservation, with 1333 (class leader, ex Serco 366), 1334 (ex Serco 367), 1739 (ex TransAdelaide Cityfree) also in preservation.
This video exhibits some unusual and enthusing behaviour, simulated by certain driving methods. This is NOT how it is usually or should be driven!! This is purely for the enjoyment of this recording.
I should hopefully have a similar video at some point of 256 with a different lockup pattern controller at some point, so keep an eye out!
Enjoy!
🥰🥰🥰 those ZF are the reason why I wanted to be busdriver ! But nowadays with all those Ecolife or electric buses we can't enjoy them like that anymore...
Thanks for sharing 😊
