She was the first artist to use the singing technique that is called “melisma” incorporated in a pop song. This song was also credited for giving birth to later pop legends of today like Beyonce, Rihanna, Christina, Ariana, and many more. 🙂

That version was totally acoustic with only a piano and 2 background singers. The production version is so rich and full. You should definitely check out the album version. Watch the original video. She has always been awesome but in the early '90s she was in a league of her own. So incredible!

Back then it was no auto tune . Her first #1 song back then the label made her into this Mary popping next girl look that was not her .
It was in the history book that when this was released and played in radio. All americans stopped what they were doing and listen to this song. The message was really strong. Some were crying. I'm not exaggerating, I read that in an old article. And some people who lives in 90s testified on it. And made also them crazy because of the crazy riffs at the end. That was the core of the song. And another fact: throughout that 1990 she only the one who stayed in #1 for 4 weeks. The rest were stayed from 3rd week and below..

First time I heard Mariah sing Hero, the live clip from the 90s. I thought she was magical nobody else could sing like her.
Love how "reacting to Mariah Carey" accidentally became "reacting to 30 year old commercials" lol so funny, but it's fun to see how TV was so different back then. Mariah wasn't in the Mickey Mouse Club, those were Britney, Christina and even Justin Timberlake, i'm almost glad that she wasn't considering what happens to most Disney stars, she had her own rocky journey but wow, what a legend and this is where it all started.

I followed Mariah since the beginning. I have a few fun facts for you two about Mariah ! Mariahs first televised performance ever was America The Beautiful ... I think she sang it either 1989 or 1990 for the NBA. Look that gem up. Even the ball players looked stunned ! Her next televised performance was Aresenio Hall. Def look that up and if you haven’t watched her Show Time At the Apollo performance drf look that up. Watch closely to the end of Vision of love on the Apollo bc Mariah was so happy aboit her standing ovation that she starts smiling real big and almost forgets the lyrics ( it’s a cute moment ) and if you look up the lyrics to Vision of Love you will think it’s all about a love song. Mariah explained in an interview that the song isn’t actually a love song but instead she wrote it after getting her first record deal with Sony and the song is actually about thanking GOD for all the blessings in her life at that moment. Then go back and read the lyrics. It makes sense !.... also .... Mariah writes all of her songs ( except the covers like I’ll Be there , and without You. She even wrote All I Want for Xmas !
