I was listening to as many "Eternal Source of Light Divine" performances as I could find on YT. This one BLEW MY MIND! The best of all of them! I'm enraptured. Grace Davidson's glorious voice is beyond stunning. With the unusual accompaniment (instead of baroque trumpet) of the phenomenal Christian Forshaw's saxophone this is a once in a lifetime gem of a performance. WOW.
Unknown? Grace Davidson is a distinguished professional, probably the premiere baroque soprano in the world today. She has released a couple of cds and was the featured soloist in Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit movies.
This is the most beautiful saxophone and vocal performance I have ever heard. Can't say I have ever heard Handel played on a soprano sax, and with such finesse and sensitivity. I have only just discovered Grace's voice from the Byrd 1588 recording, and what I find for my soul this has been.
Perfekt!! 😍😇👼 und der Komponist ein Genie 🙏❤
grace's voice is the most beautiful thing i have ever heard. it brings me to tears every single time i hear it. she has a piece of the divine in her. thank you, grace, for sharing your gift with the world.
Whenever I play this video on our big TV my husband insists that this sound cannot possibly be produced by a human being…. Pity me, as I have to live with him!!
There are many majestic interpretations of this work, but this is the greatest, because it is the most lyrical and appealing, even spiritual. Psalm 68: 4 "Sing unto God, sing praises to his name." It perfectly demonstrates the power of simplicity, so appreciated by Mozart and Beethoven in Händel.
I have never, ever liked the saxophone. As a folk/classical vocalist I have never heard it played in a way I enjoyed. But hearing Christian play, and coupled with Grace’s voice has changed my opinion forever. I never knew how divine the saxophone could be. Not only was this beautiful in its own right, I think it is one of the best if the the best rendition of this piece-I think I even like it better than the original.
You are so welcome. I could go on and on about how well executed this performance is…I look forward to discovering more of your work-and if you ever decide to to an arrangement of Loreena McKennitt’s “Dark Night of the soul”, let me know. I think the coupling of voice to the saxophone in that song would be sublime.
As a pretty large lad of 53 yo I deeply stunned my 3 kids because they didn't hear what I was listening in my earphones, but they definitely heard my mighty sobs and moans ))
Just ethereal. Exquisite soprano and soprano saxophone, together in pitch and timbre. Really, the sax seems to be more like a baroque voice than any other instrument. Thank you both for a transporting experience.
Ms. Davidson gave one of the finest performances of this piece I've heard. If you had told me a soprano sax was going to be the other voice, I would have had a good chuckle; it was superb! Both were exquisite. Thank you for bringing me such beauty after a difficult day.
I first heard Grace recently whilst listening to Sleep by Max Richter. As soon as I heard this voice I instantly thought of what someone who had a near death experience described. He spoke of being in some kind of higher realm, whilst there, a group of beings where amongst him. One of them begins to sing. It was described as the most beautiful, amazing sound , like nothing he had heard before. I tried to imagine that sound for myself and this is the nearest I imagine I can get.
Eternal source of light divine! With double warmth thy beams display, and with distinguish’d glory shine, to add a lustre to this day.
WOW, this was an absolutely beautiful version of "Eternal Source of Light Divine", it might even be the best version I have heard besides the 13 year old Aksel Rykkvin version. I want to hear more, so I have just subscribed. Soprano and Saxophone are a match made in heaven ! Thank you both !!!
Very well done, Grace! Thank you for sharing. Christian: I've heard this beautiful piece before with solo trumpet (original scoring). This was lovely with the saxpohone.
Truly, the best performance I have ever heard! 😀 Such simplicity, humbleness, and highly advanced musical performance made this recording a living ambassador of what Händel thought of while composing (something a lot of modern-day performances lack)!
So very beautiful. I have hairs on neck standing up, the combination of voice and instrument is inspired, how can music like this have been ans and sung by mere mortals
Beautifu! Bravo! Bravo! In the church of Carmo - former Se of Rio de Janeiro - this song (Eternal) has already played in the mass, during the week. Thanks I'm going to like 👍🇧🇷✨
With Sopranosaxophone! Outstanding! Never heard. Playing this with Piccolotrumpet. But, great Respekt and perfect playing. Think today Händel will write also in this Combination.

I personally prefer the "old" trumpet, but completely agree on the voice. It's out of this world.
Whenever I feel depressed, this always lifts me to a better place. It's as if God is saying to me that everything will be ok
Yes agree! But the use of this kind of flute is totaly wrong!
These unknown people should know that they've made many other unknown people deeply happy. I'm profoundly moved by this simple, pure performance.
Not famous musicians, perhaps, just the best in the art. Not business.

@@AndreaRKentOne year later... YES, & arguably the most beautifully pure of all soprano voices. LOVE this lady & all her work!❤
Grace is respected in the braoque world like the queen she is!

The Romans use to say Nomen Omen, in one's name is one's destiny, more or less. I find it is accurate in Grace's case, don't you think?
Whenever I play this video on our big TV my husband insists that this sound cannot possibly be produced by a human being…. Pity me, as I have to live with him!!
An absolutely stunning version of this beautiful piece. Such a wonderful soprano voice, matched perfectly by the soprano sax. Sublime!

How doesn't this have 10 billion views?
Yes its beyond touching. Her voice is enchanting
the world is into trashy music
The world has become dumb
Without a doubt the most beautiful recording of this piece. Grace has the most angelic and hypnotic voice.
The best rendition available, by far. In a class of its own.
Yeah wow.
At last, a pure tone soprano in the vein of Ms Kirkby, this arrangement is inspired, and inspiring!
I actually think she’s better than Emma Kirkby, who does occasionally have a tendency to harshly squawk, unfortunately.
@@videomillsy Exactly... and I submit that it was more frequent than occasional. I never understood her cult following.
The soprano voice always blends with the soprano sax, beautiful performance by the best.

Heaven. Just like Heaven.
The beauty of this ethereal voice enhances every composition she turns her attention to whether 21st century music or 300 years earlier.
Brava Grace!
Such a beautiful voice!
Nevera heart a nicer version
Deeply moving, indeed a rare glimpse of paradise.
Voice from heaven ..Grace is on another level .❤

Bedankt

Sublime. Grace indeed. I love her voice.
