The big purse hiding a pregnancy has been done so many times in shows, but this is one of the few instances where it actually fits the character's personality. Its easy to notice when an actor is pregnant during filming because the hiding is so obvious.
They actually shot all of her scenes earlier that week coz she was about to go into labor. She had slight contractions a few days prior and they knew they would run out of time with her. Also giving her all the comfort she needed, although in my opinion there is no comfort in working this far along.

The way they wrote Angela’s actions to hide her actress’s real life pregnancy is amazing and suits really well! At the dinner party when Angela clutches onto her bag on the sofa the whole time. It shows that Angela is stingy and reserved. Then, with the proposal scene, Angela is clearly uncomfortable with the romantic public display and doesn’t want to join Andy on stage. Everything, the way they fit Angela’s character makes sense
Yeah her not going up on stage is totally what she would have done regardless of them needing a way to hide her pregnancy! She hates having all that attention drawn to her. The writers were brilliant!

My fave part is: Angela was pregnant irl and they had to hide it. Jenna wasn't pregnant and they faked it. Then Jenna was real pregnant and they showed it while Angela was fake pregnant. Both women agree: fake pregnancy was the worst.
Michael meant to say "oaky aftertaste," which is the taste a food or drink leaves in your mouth after you've already swallowed. "Afterbirth" is things like the placenta and such that come out of a woman after she gives birth. The two words seem similar but refer to two very different things 😂
You see her waist very clearly just moments before in the same episode as she's talking to Merideth, and there's really no trace of a baby bump. If she's pregnant in that moment, she must've been quite early in her pregnancy, because she looks indistinguishable from any other time in the show.
I love the subtle detail at 1:05 where Angela is looking at Jan’s cleavage in a judgmental manner. It really makes the characters more realistic in terms of how a conservative christian would behave. 😂
conservative Christians don't necessarily behave like that. only judgmental ones. I know plenty of conservative Christians that don't act like that at all.
You can kind of see her bump. It's a little hard since her shirt is very loose. You can tell the rest of her body has gotten a bit bigger. But I think she was in the very early stages of pregnancy then so you wouldn't have noticed as much.
Even with small bumps they do what they can to hide them because people do notice the slight changes, and it can ruin them being able to announce it when they're ready. It's happened a ton of times where it wasn't hidden early on and the announcement and surprise was taken from the parents

Adults start working at 8-9, and the earliest college class is at 8.30, so there's at least seven hours of sleep if you want to go to bed at midnight. It's so hot in the middle of the day that it makes perfect sense for Europeans in hot Latin countries.. South of France also - in trades that involve outdoor work, to work from around 5.30 am til 11.30 or so, then again from 4pm til around 8 or sundown. Only idiots would work in the heat of the day. Because sometimes actresses are pregnant and their character isn't and there's not much that can be done to hide it except hide the bump, so yeah overtime huge purses and laundry baskets kind of clue in the viewer that the actress is pregnant. The nanny made fun of it in the 1990s while using it still, because despite being unsubtle, it's effective

@@eloiserose3993 I'm guessing the scenes have to be written in advance, so that you have the time to commission the ice sculpture and get it delivered before filming the scene. If you know an actress is pregnant, you can't necessarily when it will start to show and how visible it will be, especially since for some people, you can wake up one morning with a dramatically different figure than the last (happens a lot in denial of pregnancies, but it can probably happen as well in other cases). In the end, the loose clothes probably would have been enough, but they perhaps couldn't know it for sure when they wrote the scene and they decided to be cautious.
