I had a roommate in the Navy that was a huge Ritchie Blackmore fan so I got to hear this song over and over as he tried to learn the guitar part. The fact that it didn’t drive me nuts shows how good the song is 😂
Amber & Jay, here are some other good Rainbow songs to react to: "Self Portrait", "Tarot Woman", "Stargazer", "Lady of the Lake", "Kill the King", and "Sensitive to Light".
Have the album long live rock n roll. Saw him in the early 80s Dallas. Still watch and listen to him. Rainbow in the dark another great song. Yall stay well and groovy my friends. Texas
The main riff is primarily guitar (the great Richie Blackmore, formerly of Deep Purple) with keys basically playing in unison. The guitar riff is played with double stops which gives it that extra crunch, and the bass chugging along adds some low end heft. Possibly my favorite Rainbow song. Definitely top 3 at least.

@@Starburst_Candy The albums were better with DIO, and DIO is well the best but Joe Lynn had a fantastic voice. Far better than Graham Bonnet and almost better than anyone in that era.

The late great Craig Gruber is the man behind this terrific bass line. A jazz bass devotee and certified master of his craft. Like Ronnie James Dio, he also came from the hard rock band Elf that released three albums 1972-75 (though on the first one, Ronnie played bass - for a long time it was his main instrument and he was very good at it). Keyboard player Mickey Lee Soule and drummer Gary Driscoll also came from that band. The latter is dead too - he was murdered in 1987 under deplorable circumstances, while buying drugs. The final member of Rainbow was of course their founder and leader, former Deep Purple guitarist Ritchie Blackmore. "Man on the silver mountain" was the opening track and lead single from Rainbow's first album "Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow". Ronnie wrote the lyrics about Deep Purple's manager Bruce Payne, and his obsession with making and keeping money. Ronnie knew Bruce from Elf supporting Deep Purple on several US tours.

Wonderful! For us oldies, this was the 1st riff we heard whilst nervously sampling the new musical direction of Mr "Riffy" Blackmore after leaving Purple! It was so refreshing and exciting, but just the start of an awesome journey! The next LP, "Rising", took everything to a new level and became one of the finest ever - from any band! You'll see this mentioned numerous times here, but Stargazer is an absolute must - undoubtedly Dio's finest vocal performance from the studio! But don't make the mistake many reactors do, by only doing one half of the story as the next track on the album, "Light in the Black" completes the story of this mini rock opera! If you do manage to do one (or both), I would strongly suggest you study the lyrics first - find out and study the story line and it's potential modern-day alternate meanings! Also, by studying them, you'll recognise that story line being perfectly told by Ritchie on his guitar during Stargazer - arguably his finest studio solo! Rainbow, as with Purple, were undoubtedly a Live band which I was lucky to see on numerous occasions and I truly feel sorry for those Rock fans that missed them - especially with very little footage available now. "On Stage" offers some near-on perfect tracks, in particular "Catch the Rainbow" and also there is a concert from 1995 with a different line-up that provide brilliant tracks and all still waiting to be reacted to! Good Luck with your journey!

What an awesome selection! Love this song! If you want to check out guitarist's Ritchie Blackmore's diversity, check out the band he has been in for the last 27 years called Blackmore's night. It is described as Neo-medieval folk rock. Shadow of the Moon was their debut song ant a great start. If you want Ian Anderson (of Jethro Tull) playing flute with them, check out Play Minstrel Play. The lead singer is Candice Night, so you could totally check them out on a female friday!
Beautiful song, great choice. Peter Gabriel Brian Adams Neil Tennant Robert Plant and Bob Seger are all some of my very, very favorite male vocalists. For the past few days, I've been playing Seger's "Night Moves" on repeat He weaves such a great story with those lyrics. So GOOD.
Jay & Amber, for female Friday: Jackie DeShannon - "Put a Little Love in Your Heart" or "What the World Needs Now Is Love"!! ! She’s one of the early singer-songwriters. She co-wrote Put a Little Love in Your Heart. She wrote the music for her original “Bette Davis Eyes”, lyrics by Donna Weiss. You reacted to Kim Carnes cover of Bette Davis Eyes, a worldwide hit/record of the year, w/a very different arrangement.

I had an uncle that had the 4 speaker stereo system. And the sound was just going around and around. It was really cool.
STARGAZER! you need to check Stargazer, one of the best rock songs of all time
What an awesome selection!
Peter Gabriel
Brian Adams
Neil Tennant
Robert Plant
and Bob Seger are all some of my
very, very favorite male vocalists.
For the past few days, I've been playing
Seger's "Night Moves" on repeat He weaves such a great story with those lyrics.
So GOOD.
DIO's first band Elf played at a party about a half mile from my home and I could hear it clear as a bell.
I love Elf. Wish I had been there. Hope they listen to Hoochie Koochie Lady soon.
A little guy with a huge powerful voice!
I’m so happy you did this song. This made my day. Thank you. You made me smile.😊
“Straight through the heart” is another great rainbow song.
Impressed you knew Dio’s voice without being told. You have come a long way!
Knocking at your back door and Perfect Strangers. Guitarist Richie Blackmore was one of the key individuals in both groups
