It´s so great to learn the genesis of a treasure like "Twilight"! D.S., being the icon he is, appreciates "Incantations" by Oldfield, my favourite Oldfield album. Things couldn´t fall into place any better than they do right now. The first time I listened to "Twilight" got me just as mesmerized as I was listening to "Incantations" for the first time.
One of the rare occasions, when the spirit that the song(writer) wants to transmit to the listener just matches in every single way: Sound, riffs, melodies, vocals, lyrics, atmosphere, momentum, basically. And I love EOS for making non Death Metal Songs sound like Death Metal😂 One of the songs that shaped my musical taste from the first time I heard it early october 1994 and to this date my favourite EOS track 🫶🏼🩵😍
Twilight is for me is one of the best song ever released, And after that I never stopped listening to Dan Swanö diffrent bands and songs. I would say he is my favorit artist of all time. Even his solo album moon tower is also brilliant especially the song Uncreation it just ticks all the right boxes and I still hope for another solo-album to build on moon tower and a LP release. 😅 Please Dan Swanö if you read this please make another solo album this world needs it more than ever. If words were like music this would be a book, But this is not even worth the time that it took. Not even a novel just a self-pity tale written by someone that always will fail.
Dan, what do you mean "technically not really a death metal song at all"??? To me Purgatory Afterglow, especially Twilight song is the definition of melodic death metal. Not In Flames, Dark Tranquillity, At The Gates etc. (with all the respect for their music) but the very EOS album with its perfect opening song Twilight.
I always loved the chugging buzzsaw guitars on the pre chorus. I always wondered was the bass buzzed out or were both guitars using boss Hm-2 as well giving it that swedish sound of the time.
