Mine just build the hammock and sac. I don’t think I can have the babies. What should I do? Take the sac out? Will the momma be okay?

How did you setup the egg sack

i have a Black Spider who made her nest on my porch railing, but i genuinely need to move her and the eggs elsewhere. can i do this with the eggs inside the web sack and put them in a mason jar for now and leave her & them somewhere in the woods by my house? she’s constantly with them, so it’s extremely hard to get around her, and i don’t want to kill her. how can i go about this?

Love your enclosure! How does mom react with her egg sack gone? I've heard that spoods can get quite upset if they find their sack gone.

Also wondering this too, mine hasn't left the nest since laying the sack and it's really hard to get her to eat. Also I've heard some people keep the babies together until like i2 or 3? Do they stay with mom at the point too? Thanks in advance 💕 new spider grandma to be 🥺

Thank you so much ☺️ the stress comes when the sack is removed with her being in it or around it. When they start roaming around the enclosure I take advantage and rehome my mamas while I remove the sack. Once I’m done I bring them back and give them a nice meal. I have never had any of them stress out after while using this method ❤️

@@cascadianroots I keep the babies together until i3-4 ☺️ I will separate bigger ones earlier though to prevent them from eating their smaller siblings.

I live in a area where we can catch many jumpers easily like audax and P. mystaceus, lots of land being cleared which gives me access to to trees that are about to be burned or hauled away. I like to bring home the big girls nest and all (easy to do since they are usually on a piece of bark) incubate them then release them back. I tried two methods , one removing the nest and feeding the babies once they come out which I run about 60-75% success rate. And second leaving the babies with mom till they come out. What I have noticed is that the ones that stay with mom are much larger than the ones I incubate due to nursing, but seems to have risk. Some moms eat the babies and you seem to have fewer due to sibling cannibalism.. but the trade off is size.. what are your thoughts?

When I first started I used to leave babies in and then remove individually once they started emerging. I personally didn’t notice any pros to leaving the babies with mom though (just my personal experience). I think genetics have a lot to do with it too though, I’ve had clutches only produce 1-9 survivors and some 100+ survivors doing the exact same thing. As far as size, I haven’t really noticed a difference either. I’ll have runts every clutch though and “bullies” as I call them that I remove early because even at i2 they will be twice the size as most of their siblings and will start with their cannibalism early

I like this method because i see a lot of videos where the babies are already emerged and scrambling around it looks more difficult haha
How do you tend to the babies up until they emerge after removing them?? And how long until you seperate them into individual containers?
