PTS Ep. 190 - Pop Rivet Gun: How to Disassemble, Reassemble and Operate (TT#2)

Chris takes a few minutes to show how to disassemble, reassemble, and operate a pop rivet gun. He had the tool out for an upcoming project and decided to film this episode.
The gun was also slightly modified, by drilling out the smallest head to better accept 1/8" rivets, since the next sized up head was too large to correctly grip the pin. The mod was successful.

I think this might possibly be the most helpful video I have ever watched on TH-cam. I had a stuck pin, so I mindlessly started taking things apart. When I had a lap full of various parts and no clue how to reassemble them, I turned to TH-cam and found your video. Perfect!

You saved me with this video. Word of advice to everyone don't do what I did and try to tap a nail in the back to push out the pin. Got both of them stuck then. I couldn't push out the slotted rod due to everything being stuck in so tight so i had to finish up taking out the hinge pin and then also had to bend the sides of the gun out with 2 screwdrivers till they could slide out over the top of the slotted rod so I could get the handles apart. After that small problem I could follow what you did in the video easily. Just had to tap the sides of the gun back to straight with a hammer so I could put it back together again. Works ok so far. Didn't know what to do till I watched your great instructions. Thanks very much.

Thanks lots for that. I’ve always had a problem Stanley MR55 and I couldn’t figure out how to remove the spring assembly. I also decided to use a wet stone to flatten the spring ends and a couple of twist drills in my fingers to remove any burrs from the nozzle ends as they tend to grab the rivet if it bends slightly. Now all I need is to grow bigger hands. Now the pin falls out smoothly. Hurrah!
