- May 10, 2019 marked the 150th anniversary of the Golden Spike Ceremony for the completion of the first Transcontinental Railroad in 1869. The day before the big day, the Union Pacific Railroad held a special event at Ogden Union Station, which featured their iconic Living Legend 844, and their newly restored poster child, Big Boy 4014. On the big day itself, a reenactment of the historic ceremony took place out in Promontory, complete with the immaculate replicas of Jupiter and 119. My family and I were just a few of the many thousands of people who traveled to Utah for these events. Five years later, and here was our experience.
