BDO lore imo makes the world feel so rich and alive. I've been using every bit of lore i learned from your video to add so much flair into my duels with friends and got a great plot running as we progress towards the next demon land expansion. The kingdom of Orzeka and the history and politics surrounding Sylvia is just the best thing i've ever come to know!

BDO's lore is nice, but I don't think the game really incentivizes us to engage with it. Each and every main story quest is just a sequence of "go here, talk to X" that just incentivizes players to hold down "R". Small stuff, like the knowledge bits scatered around the world, are a one and done thing: many are just a single line of text, that you can't even read again after you see it for the first time. And there is no reward to engaging with the lore. You won't discover some ancient ruins by connecting the dots os scatered comments, or find some hidden, rare item by following context clues. No, if there is something to be found, the game will always give you a clear, marked, blue path to follow, no need to pay attention to anything (and, lets be real, the stuff here is writen taking that into account: if you were to turn off pathways and tried to just follow directions based on what any questgiver say, you are pretty much fucked).

Is BDO Lore Bad? No? Is it implemented extra lazily for as cheap as possible? Yes! It's like PA hired good writers who are fans of Berserk Manga and made them write down a book about BDO and then ran out of money to implement it properly into the game. In some quests when spamming R it would take me so long to finish dialogues with NPC I would think I'm going in loops but no, it's just that there is so much so much dialogue that legit sometimes 1 stop at NPC would take 2-3 min of reading and It's not like in WoW you see the entire text right away so you know when its over, in BDO you press R and wonder where it ends. I recently played New World and TnL and read/watch all of the MSQ and even New World has better and more comprehensible quest lines than BDO. No wonder people just run in circles for 20k hours and have no fkn Idea about the world they play in.

The lore's got a pit of depth which is great but not very well articulated within the game, this has since been improved a lot with the main story revamps recently, I hope they keep it up and make the lore more digestible to the average player.

BDO’s lore is good but the narrative is quite poor. The lore being the stories that has already occurred and narrative being the story that we currently go through manually with our characters. The game doesn’t make use of the fact that it is a video game to assist with the telling of its stories. Video games are a visual and audible medium. Rather than telling us something has occurred we should be shown it and allowed to participate in it so that the moments stick with us better. Reading books should be used sparingly, rather, we should have playable flashbacks to these epic moments from the past. We PLAY games. We don’t need movies or books. The medium allows us to experience the moments. Pearl Abyss doesn’t take advantage of it enough.
