Huge scouting mistake. One year of college at a small school needing lots of development. From number 3 to number 3 on Dallas. 34 million for not playing. Wow.

Exactly! I never understood why people were so impressed by a 1 year Div 2 starter. At the very least he should’ve stayed or transferred to a bigger school for his senior year

@@steve-hp3uqso your are saying QB’s like Kurt Warner who played D-2 football shouldn’t have been scouted??? Kurt Warner balled out. The same could be said with Tony Romo who played at a D2 college. Scouting is always a hit or a miss.

@@DJG37S not really sure what your point is. Are u saying trey deserved to be a first round pick? Bc both those guys went undrafted and took years to start being good in the league. Lance may still get there some day, but spending a top pick on him was just a waste caused by a good agent and a weak qb class.

I agree with you. He only has 1 season as a starter at North Dacota State, and the team dominated FCS. It means he could play under less pressure and mark good stats. He might deserve to the 1st round, but 49ers were not supposed to sacrifice several draft picks to invest on him.

Any head coach who gives Trey Lance 1000 live game reps would be fired several times over. The repeated missed wide open WRs and dangerous passes this preseason should be ample evidence enough.

I am a long time 49er fan and I was at first optimistic about Trey Lance. However, after last season I knew he was a humongous bust!! He had only two years in a third level college league and had no experience in competing with teams such as Michigan, Notre Dame, USC, Stanford or Ohio State. They expected too much out of him!!

Going 3rd overall after being dominant before Covid was a heck of a rise. $34M guaranteed & after living the life of a young QB in San Francisco, he now gets to do it for another 2 seasons with in Dallas. There’s worse ways to start out coming out of college. He can either work his way into a roster or begin the next chapter of his life with a LOT of money. He’s in a great spot to have a good life no matter what. Good for him.

I think Trey Lance was better off being drafted to a rebuilding team, not a team that is currently in win now mode. Niners don't have the time to have Lance develop. Kind of feel bad for him until he said he didn't want to be a third string qb and requests a trade, only to end up being a third string qb on the Cowboys 😂

  • @Royal_G80

I'm a 49ers fan. I actually wanted the 49ers to draft Trey Lance. But it was mostly because I didn't want them to draft Mac Jones.
Everyone wanted to draft the next Patrick Mahomes. Trey had the build, the arm and the running ability, although he looked a lot faster in his college highlights. Definitely didn't have the experience and he seemed to have a deer in the headlights look at times. Brock Purdy didn't have anything near the physical abilities of Trey Lance, but he has experience, intelligence, and instincts which can't be taught to a player.

Lance's problem was that he played 1 year in college, and decided he wanted to cash in and go right into the NFL draft... after a year of not doing anything except maybe practice. The net result is sure he got paid with his rookie deal for #3 overall, but he didn't develop into an NFL ready QB at all and baring multiple injuries to the Cowboys it doesn't look like he will get a chance to show whether or not he's developed, and you see the salaries QBs are getting now? Even someone like Daniel Jones? Yeah Lance got greedy and screwed up the truly big pay day.

I don't have any thoughts on Lance. But the 49ers have been an absolute clown show at handling the QB situation for a long time now. Before this mess it was their buddy doing them a favor and trading them Jimmy G for less than market value then turning around and trying to screw the Pats when the Pats were looking to trade for him back. Waited way too long and refused to trade him for market value and ended up getting nothing. They stupidly turned down a chance to add the GOAT QB to a contender that was only a QB away from a title. And then this debacle for a guy that was not projected to be a top five pick by many and had a lot of red flags. Then again so did Mahomes and he turned out all right. But he also didn't go in the top ten either.
And let's not forget them passing on the GOAT six times. I know, most teams did. But he was a hometown kid. They should have been smart enough to take a flyer on him. And now they have a mediocre career backup as the starter. They just cannot figure out the position. Until they do they are never winning another title.

The Walter Payton award is not the equivelent of the Heisman! There are a ton of D2 qb's that have big numbers in D2. Only the presicion passers with quick releases ever fair well from D2. People thinking Trey Lance is the next Jalen Hurts is ridiculous. Comparing D2 Linebackers and limemen to D1 is a huge mistake. Trey Lance is smaller weaker than Jalen Hurts a MAN who was running and passing all over the SEC. The SEC is full of top NFL players. Immediately the niners were have passing issues with the passing schemes he could pass good with an empty field but with people in his face who were now 300lbs instead od 200 lbs from the D2 division it was apparant the writing was on the wall everyone in camp knew Trey was not cutting it.

Simple. When you are at the elite level of competitoion there are no do-over's. This is it. You have one shot to prove your worth and when you have the opportunity, you had better own it. Lance owned it in college no doubt even if it was just for one year worth of tangible results. However, when the time came for him to own the moment, it fell flat, then disater struck when he got injured as the 49ers had to move on once they had a proven performer in Purdy. The window of opportunity closed immedietly from then on and he was off to another location. Regardless, his story is not over yet, so he must continue to own everything he can and turn into something amazing.

Guy started basically 4 games played decent in the first 2 as a placeholder while Jimmy glass was hurt one of them he himself got hurt in and the only one he even got a full chance to start in he essentially played a game of madden where your buddy picks the weather during that monsoon game in week 1. Never got a fair full fledged shot

It's hard to transition into the NFL if you hardly played in college. He's got an uphill battle.

Gonna wait to see if Dak will give this man a chance. If Purdy a seventh round last pick can make it. So can Lance.

Huge difference between a man who was a 4 year starter in the Big 12 conference and a man who played just 19 games at the Subdivision level, which is 2nd tier college football.
Honestly, it shouldn't be that surprising Purdy looked NFL ready from Day 1 (at least qualified enough to be a backup). I don't know why teams sleep on guys who played 4 solid years of D1 college football.

@@ChefJeff003 Don't forget about Carson Wentz. Both players got drafted from the same school. Wentz's injury ended his performance what should've been prime and get go. His first few years is what possibly riled up teams to draft and look into the division lower. So far, pretty disappointing.

😂😂😮 Trey has ideal size, arm, mobility. But lack of experience really hurt. Injuries really impacted his development. But Acho said it, he doesn't read defense pre-snap. He's also hesitant to pull trigger, afraid of making mistakes. Buf Allen n Jags Lawrence will pull the trigger in tight coverage. SYoung say in pro you have to be able to throw in tight coverage. If he needs experience playing games, he needs to play for rebuilding team, playoff bound teams can afford to lose games for his development. He might need to go to the CFL, his father played there. Its more wide open for his style of play, running n throwing. Hope, he can get better in Dallas. But he was in the Niner QB friendly system for 2 yrs, but still couldn't make the right reads.

My issue is a guy who is young and involved in political activism. The reason I have that problem is because the NFL is no joke and stuff like that can cause you to screw up what could have been an amazing career where once you got it all figured out could do some philanthropy and get involved in politics later. You've gotta put everything into football until you get that 2nd contract, and then you can start doing what you want to do.

The *COWBOYS* suck. For over 25 years now, they have fielded individually talented players who should not be on the same team together. Despite the Sunday morning NFL Pregame shows on ESPN and FOX repeatedly choosing the *COWBOYS* to go to the Super Bowl early in the season, thereby missing that two other teams within the same NFC East Conference *_(GIANTS & EAGLES)_* were able to make appearances in five or six of those Championship games during that lengthy period, and win three of them, while the *COWBOYS* languished at *Clippers' Pond* icefishing instead. The *COWBOYS* continued to lose year after year to Washington, who had an even worse record year in and year out. Meanwhile, even the Arizona Cardinals made it to the Super Bowl, during the *COWBOYS* drought, after leaving the NFC East for the NFC West. Every NFC West team has appeared in the Super Bowl since the *COWBOYS* won last, though several of those teams are in the NFC South now.

The day Trey Lance was named the starter for San Francisco Fox Sports ran a piece on him. He said everything you want to hear from a starting quarterback. Then Fox showed Lance dancing through the night in celebration. Then he got injured. Lance doesn't work hard enough and he isn't mature enough to handle the starting position. I think both San Francisco and Dallas have payed too much for him. Especially Dallas because at this point Lance has been out worked by three quarterbacks who arguably aren't as talented as he is. Dallas might not have payed as much as the 49ers did but at this point I feel Lance isn't worth a fourth round pick.
