- The 'Project' M140i is getting louder. I decide to take a gamble on a res delete to see if it makes any difference rather than going all out on an aftermarket exhaust system.

100% if you dont have the MPE back box it still makes a difference....check out my M140i Manual or Auto vid. The sunset orange M140i has a res delete on standard back box....

Hey Joe! Yes it makes a nice sound with a small mod. Bet it makes the M2C sound mad! Using a GoPro Hero 7 for in car footage.....a Sony RX100 V for the outside shots.....
After a year, how do you like it? What’s the sound like in comfort mode? Any droning? I want a bit more sound and pops but still want the thing to shut up in comfort mode. 440i GC btw but that shouldn’t matter much, same engine.

I had the MPE on my 240 and the res delete completely changed the exhaust after, its so hard to actually capture how incredible it actually is over video. PCW done mine, unreal mate. Top vid again!
Think you hit the nail on the head there mate.....audio cannot capture how great it sounds.....PCW mod is another great way to achieve same results!

Have you got an ECU on this? I have a 2017 M140i with the MPE stage1 with pops and bangs, would it be worth deleting both to make it louder?

I also deleted the 2 silencers on my 440i and edited the end box a bit. the sound is very good, bmw should have done it.
Really makes a difference and makes the six cylinder engine sound more sonorous

Thanks mate, used a 3.5" stainless steel pipe. Cost was £160

Was this a complete mid pipe replacement? Or cutting the existing mid pipe to remove the resonator / silencer? I’m leaning towards the latter as I have nowhere to store the OEM midpipe if I replace the full thing.
This was cutting the resonators out and welding a straight pipe in.

Ok thanks mate, but what about the backbox/muffler? Doesn’t that reduce drone the most? So if it’s removed there would be loads of drone?
No idea, give it a try and let me know....I've never tried that on my cars. I've found a full cat back system more droney and full turbo back system more smelly and noisy

Thanks mate, no mine is not a PPF, OPF Car....mine is a 2017 car, PPF cars had a July/Aug 2018 build date....most likely a 68 reg onward car...

Congratulations on your purchase. A res delete will make it louder but be careful as you have a Petrol Particulate Filter also. I do think though....on a E400 why would you want to ruin it by a res delete....? But it's your car and your rules lol.

I actually have no idea what I’m doing lol - it’s only because the car does sound decent when it’s in sport + but generally it doesn’t have the throaty response I want. I’ve looked into decat/backbox delete and tbh I’m confused as to what needs doing now!

On the cold start it is louder and deeper sounding. Neighbour's will get annoyed lol

@@talkinghead9664 Probably too late given this was 2 years ago but, just get Bootmod3 and turn cold start off. I love the cold start but, it's worth it to keep the sound for putting the foot down...

Given my 440i doesn't have mppsk what is better taking out 1 or both resonators? Stock exhaust note is very disappointing

Excellent video mate. I'M awaiting the delivery of my BCS Midpipe (double res delete) to go with my MPE. Did you experience any drone? I find the MPE on the 140 is a little muted as standard. Hopefully I'll get cracks on the upshift.
Thank you....there was a bit of a drone when the car was labouring......but nothing on the motorway sat at 70 to 80 etc.....BCS is decent! Enjoy!

Had it done by a RJ Performance. Great service and they deffo know their stuff. Check their Instagram under same name....
Invest in a machine polisher something like a DAS6 dual action perfect for beginners and it will take away those annoying hair line scratches with some decent polish!
Not sure if a Dr Colourchip kit would do the job too?

Is this both the silencer and PPF? if so did it throw a code when deleting the PPF?
My car doesn't have the PPF as its 2017. It was the two silencers in the middle of the exhaust. Rear box was not removed. No error codes

Needs a Remus back box on that, as it sounds to Metallic and rattly and unrefined, don’t get me wrong I like a loud exhaust but not one that sounds shit

Yes....from underneath....the cats are still in place, then effectively it's a straight pipe (both resonators deleted) and then the back box is in tact.
Hi mate, I'm planning to do a single res delete on my m240i with MPE. Did it affect fuel economy at all?
Mate, just do them both....one makes no difference. Yes it does affect fuel economy because you will always be trying to get the noise out! Good luck!

Do both...theres definitely no drone. I drove mine many times on the motorway and actu6found the drone with the MPE went away....

You reckon if I put the resonators back in when pcp is done, bmw won't give me a hard time? As I want to upgrade to an M3 at that point, but can always sell privately I suppose..

Most definitely as we tested it for that.

No not at all, cats are still in place so no drone
wouldn’tb a muffler/backbox delete cause more drone that a cat delete
Cat delete would cause more (unpleasant) noise in my opinion. A red delete makes the sound more apparent during acceleration but no drone during a constant cruise. I think if I had a cat back straight pipe that would cause more drone. There's 2 resonators in the M140i and I only deleted one of them to make sure there was no drone

Not really. The car still has the cats in so no drone or smell of fuel
What's the situation with MOT and res delete? Technically it's a fail, right?
It's not a MOT failure because it still complies with the emissions and it was not decatted. I did have put it through an inspection on the exhaust sound and emissions after the res delete at an independent garage to see and there was no issues....

Reading a bit more into it, looks like a car just needs one silencer to be legal, so the back box covers it.

Yes.....one further up the exhaust (about under the front seats) and then a second one mid section

What mpg are you getting from the 140
Mid 20s locally, mid 40s on motorway
So on average what kind of miles do you get from a full tank
Peter benn pan the car is extremely efficient for what it is. I had an e92 330d averaging 40mpg on my commute without trying. I drive my 140 achieving 42mpg in eco pro which is incredible, the journey is must be clear though because if you hit traffic and allot of stop start I’m seeing 35mpg. All in all I’m spending the same on fuel as petrol is cheaper and literally I couldn’t care less about fuel cost when I’m passing people in m4’s it’s all worth it every penny

Peter benn pan I’ve not done a proper test of this but when I fill up my range is displayed at about 350 miles and I reckon I fill up every 300-20 miles currently. To put things into perspective I’m taking my car into BMW on Monday and they have promised to fill my car up with a full tank of fuel as part of a deal I have done with them (don’t ask) I filled up the car with a full tank Thursday just gone, and I’ve been driving it in sport mode knowing that I need to use all my fuel up by Monday lol, I’m currently on half a tank and I have done 150 miles I would say in sport mode... meaning I’m booting it unnecessarily. The thing is I find the fuel goes down at the same rate for both eco and sport modes so although I drive it in eco mode to work I know that every little bit of acceleration i do will counter act that mode completely. If your serious about buying one you need to budget for £80 a week fuel whatever type of driving you are doing.
Did it to my 340i stock exhaust sounds a lot better and u can't even hear it unless your full throttling
On the 340i mate you want the MPPSK.....that makes an huge difference.....

@@DownShiftThrottle cheers mate! Reckon a new drop in panel filter is worth it? Anymore noticeable induction noise? Can't hear any induction on these stock intake setups with the B58's but not hearing good things about aftermarket intakes despite them sounding great.
I'd avoid an intake unless you map it.....see my Pipercross intake vid.....sounded great but noticable lack in power. Drop in filters are better but minimal sound.
