    I'm so addicted. I first started out with the WL A959.Then the Dingo by Remo , and the Carisma 40S Audi. I've already upgraded the A959 to a full metal "jacket" and 540 motor with a bigger pinion. This is only after learning about this hobby 4 weeks ago!

      LOL. Yes, it's dangerous to get addicted with this stuff. At least you can find a discount coupon in the description. Have fun with the hobby!

      A959 is a mini BEAST you can upgrade with near all metal everything. some 1/12 and 1/10 tires and rims are 8mm hex, bolt right on, or get some 12mm hubs for other rims. for insanity you can convert brushless with 4800-5200kv 2840 (mm) size motor (smaller than 540 but much more power), replacing all electronics (oh well)

    • @rc.attucks
      @rc.attucks 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just going to add a 540 with a bigger pinion. It's already full metal except for the chassis and the linkage pull rods. I still have my other 2 rigs I want to make faster. I'm drowning in a sea of RC Drifting, Racing, Rock climbing and up grading!!! :0)

    It's very late in the piece but Thank you for your Review... !
    I bought this car because of people like yourself doing reviews. Awesome work mate!
    As a RC car guy from waaay back in the mid 80's with the Tamiya Hornet, Frog, Wild One and Fox... Plus 1/8th nitro buggies from 1988 to 2000.
    I only wanted a fun bash car for the yard or to take with me on trips...
    I have to say the 12428 is by far the most impressive out of the box RC car to date... I also run the Zop power Lipo's and the performance increase is epic!!! 50kph...!!!!
    This car is sooo much better with upgraded proper oil filled shocks... And it's definitely not waterproof.. a splash here or there.. no problems... but deep water... Noooo!!
    Again thank you for the review!!

    • @TheDIYGuy999

      You're welcome. And BTW, the box says it's waterproof while the manual says it's not. Typical for Chinese products. So I had to test it...

    • @TheDIYGuy999
      @TheDIYGuy999  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The stock shocks don't hold the oil, because they don't have o-ring seals. But you can use upgraded shocks.

      @@TheDIYGuy999 Thanks new to rc cars, going to get my kid one of these and was going to put oil in after seeing that, so I need to change shocks first.

      You can use these for the rear suspension: www.banggood.com/2PCS-Metal-Oil-Filled-Rear-Shock-Absorber-For-Wltoys-12428-FY-03-Rc-Car-Parts-p-1290074.html?p=NZ29024828314201605E
      The front shocks don't really need oil, because there is a lot of friction and dampening in the suspension mechanism.

    Recently I bought a Wltoys 12428, and I am disappointed with it, because until now I have not been able to run it in a straight line, but it is hitting from one side of the road to the other. Can you guide me?

    • @TheDIYGuy999
      @TheDIYGuy999  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are a lot of upgraded parts available: www.banggood.com/search/12428.html?p=NZ29024828314201605E
      I would suggest to replace the steering linkages. This allows to adjust the toe, so that the wheels are parallel to each other. You may also want to replace the electronics. This allows to use a standard 3 pin servo, or even a remote with stability control. Dumbo rc has a cheap one with integrated gyro sensor

    • @modelnutty6503
      @modelnutty6503 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      for the high end toy class you'd be hard pressed to get better for the price, they're very good. they ARE geared a little too tall for the motor/ESC, kinda typical for WLtoys, they're fast until things go out, a little too fast. you CAN waterproof the stock receiver/ESC by sealing it up and putting a big heat sink on the tops of the MOSFET's (I'd recommend a heat sink anyway). IMHO the company would do well to do that, and give it 3-4 tooth smaller pinion gear so the motor and ESC don't have to work quite as hard trying to accelerate. it would accelerate quicker, still have the same top speed (higher motor RPM would make up for it), and longer run time for pulling a little less current everywhere.
      I've "been there done that" with decades of RC, racing too, so I understand the motor and gear ratio relationships pretty well. what I'd said above is for what I'm seeing and hearing watching many reviews of this one... and it IS very good, those minor mods (by the manufacturer!) could make it really great!
      some of their other toys are kinda infamous for LVC (low voltage circuit protection) kicking in, shutting power off to the motor after playing a little hard for a few minutes. the stock lithium ion batteries can't really handle high current drain, they warm up some, resistance goes up internally and the output voltage drops. I sure saw the bit stronger acceleration when you popped in the LiPo.

    • @TheDIYGuy999
      @TheDIYGuy999  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, the acceleration is clearly better with a LiPo.I have dismantled the failed ESC today. The problem was, that everything is potted inside the bottom plastic "tub". Unfortunately I found some air bobbles inside, so there are places below the PCB, which are not covered with the potting compound. Even a day later I found water below the PCB, and this is what caused the problem. I guess, what happened was a "shoot through" in a pair of mosfets, because the water switched both of them on during the same time. BTW: the mosfets are CMP3803 N-channel types with a VDS of 30V and an ID of 150A (or 85A @ 100°C). This is a bit low for a 540 can size motor with a winding resistance of about 0.3Ohms. Conclusion: WLtoys could improve this thing with a heat sink and a better potting without air bobbles inside. But anyway, the car is still a recommendation, because it is so much fun to drive!

      Hi TheDIYGuy999, I just discovered your TH-cam channel and I am totally impressed with your RC projects. I have the same ESC problem on my new A979-B. Unfortunately we drove too often through the water and it smoked like with you. Do you as an expert see a change to fix the ESC? Unfortunately, the A959-B-25 is not available from Banggood or will be available next week.

    • @TheDIYGuy999
      @TheDIYGuy999  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the praise. Yesterday I had a look inside the destroyed ESC. There is no way to fix it, because (almost) everything is covered with compound and the PCB itself is damaged.

      I think it's already too late to seal the ESC / receiver, because the moisture is between the plastic bottom cover and the PCB. You could try to carefully remove about 3mm on the bottom side. So you will have access to the bottom of the PCB and you will have a chance to properly dry it. Then you could cover the bottom side of the PCB with hot glue. Maybe you can rescue it that way.

    Well, correct me if I'm wrong. But I ain't that a brushed motor? And if it is that was your first clue that it was, at best, slightly water resistant. I'm not a motor engineer, but I'm semi sure that because of the way brushed motors work, in order to work (unless you can seal the innards of the motor), make it almost impossible to "waterproof". In comparison with a brushless motor, which is by its construction & method of producing workable spin force, is inherently waterproof.
