love that you're sharing your thoughts on these topics. i think you're right about the misleading nature of seeing only successes. also your insight about writing to the level of ambition but falling back to level of systems is beautifully articulated. 👏

Thank you for sharing about doubts and failures. Creatives need to see this and remind themselves they aren't alone, and it's common, and the isolation is about being in one's own mind. As humans, we can focus on finding solutions like a rat in a maze, but also rats in different areas of a maze. When it's not the means to make a living, the frequency of exploration and discovery, and recovery from dead-ends, are greatly reduced, slowing the rate of learning.

Happy to share my doubts and failures (!). They're just as important a part of learning as the successes. I reckon I learn a lot more from them! ✨🪐

Hey Mike this is John......I 100% agree....but I remind myself that its just Music....and I'm not getting paid. YOU are Light Years ahead of Me when it comes to Creativity..... so I try more...change things up...and eventually come to a Crossroads....and go in a Safe Direction....my comfort zone as You Say. I like when You speak....You make me think twice about doubting Myself.... Thank You. 🤳 🍺

You're dead right - it is just music, and it isn't life and death or even my bread and butter. Everything I put on TH-cam is my hobby/passion-project. Having said this, my day job is related to interior design, so understanding the creative process is also a passion that has very real application in life. That's why I'm often thinking (or overthinking!) why stuff works or doesn't, and how to balance churning out content, with making interesting creative and innovative art.
Taking the safe route is sometimes okay when there are deadlines or the creative bandwidth is exhausted. However, if I've got time to burn or a real inspired idea to explore - I love to throw caution to the wind, even if it leads to a dead end. ✨🪐

Great insight! Embrace the failure, it gives us the possibility to learn. 😉
Currently I'm experimenting a lot with my setup and try different things to find out what works for me and what not. And I love to play around with a lot of different gear. So difficult to find this mentioned consistency, with the result that I couldn't finish and upload something new for quite a long time... But 2 rules I've set for me so far: Don't change the setup during a jam, it's to easy to mess things up. And always keep a running setup on the table. So if I find some time and I'm in the mood for jamming or the next experiment I can just switch things on, put on the headphone and start. 🙂

Good luck with the current endeavours! - what's in the current rig at the moment? ✨🪐

@@MikeRenouf Thanks! Currently I'm exploring the MC-707 together with TR-8S for drums and sidechaining and the Taiga as additional synth. The Taiga sounds great but tends to clip easyly on high filter resonance. So I'm thinking of putting an additional limiter in the signal chain...

I'm jealous of the 707. Seems like a great machine.

I think this is sort of the same thing.
So as you know I've had a little time of struggling to create anything recently. I ended up just trying too hard and burnt out my internal 'CPU' 🤣, overthinking.
Im currently sat with 3 tunes in production and again feeling a little burnt out. I did turn everything on this evening and when i sat down to work on one thought, nope next one. Anyway i did that with all three and thought not tonight, so I'll just carry on again tomorrow. Probably something in the air, restricting our processing power Mike. Maybe too much helium release for you up there in the station mate.

Yeah some days it's a breeze, and other days it's a battle. The thing I try to keep in mind is that I know that there's no way to make any progress if I don't even show up to try.
Having said that - some days I just NEED to let it go, take a rest and put it all out of my mind. Go easy on yourself and come back to it when the time is right. Thanks for the insight into where you're at now!

Hey mike, JUST SOTP RIGHT NOW !!, LISTEN, give yourself a break.........over analysing will lead you to a downward slope and overload. Self expression is bursting from you, just do what you feel > Up for a jam ? stay in touch Bruva 🙏

Hah! I'm good thanks Paul, no problem here. I enjoy thinking about this kind of stuff - nothings gonna stop me making music 😆.
Part of the fascination is learning what works, what doesn't, and why sometimes things fall apart ✨🪐

      Ok, I've thought about it:
"I decided to change up some of the instruments/four or five different approaches/nothing worked"
You seem more methodical than this, it would make more sense if you had been thinking about a config at work, and thus tried it.
There is a clear expectation of events here, the reality fell below that, it's not failure. If you stumble on a rock and end up on the ground, you get up, you don't stop walking.
"you only ever see the stuff that's perfect/worked"
Comparison never leads anywhere good in art, it's partly where confidence comes from for some. Imagine two kids drawing with crayons, each paper is valid. Comparison is for science, this star is that far away...200 years ago... Comparison is also a hint at an expectation that is falling behind. Dangerous. I think we watch different youtube videos, if it's too polished, I click out. I watch
