    Thank you so much for showing me how to take off the scoring blade. This Fiskars trimmer was expensive for me to buy and I was having the same problems. Not any more so thanks for showing me❤️

    Fiskers Trimmer. It's been 4 years since you reviewed this and they haven't change the design that I can tell.I just got one and for the life of me I couldn't figure out how to change the blade. Once you did it now it's glaring at me and can't figure out how I missed not seeing it. Thank you for the video. I did switch the blades around but I'll have to remove the scoring one when I need to cut a 12x12 paper. Thanks so much for sharing this helpful review and hope I grow to like it. Something I found out is Fiskars has a very generous lifetime type of guarantee on all their products. I just viewed someone who had a similar type for 4-6yrs old and they sent her a new cutting rail when her blade gouged a guide wire. Pretty cool, huh

    You are wonderful. I purchased one today and couldn’t figure out how to get the scoring gadget off. First of all, I didn’t know what it was called, so I thank you for that. My first stop for a solution was TH-cam and you resolved the situation in no time. I’m glad I asked for help instead of wasting time trying to figure it out. I will be a subscriber forever.

    Thank you....it makes me feel better knowing I am not the only one that just recently purchased this Fiskars trimmer and was getting a little frustrated with both the scoring blade and cutter blade. I did exactly as you did. Removed the score blade.

    I wouldn't call it a design flaw. You have to remove the scorer to cut, so in my opinion it's just an option for the occasional scoring if you don't have anything else. if I have a lot of scoring to do, I would use my Martha Stewart scorer. Just got my new trimmer and I love it.

    Hi, Jen - Thanks for your review. I agree completely. I had the one with the clear arm but it cut and scored crooked so a few months ago I used a Michael's 40% coupon and bought this model, and immediately noticed the same issue with the cutter and scorer blades - so frustrating! I use a lot of 12x12 paper, so even though you can move the scoring blade to the lower position, which I did, it's still in the way of the cutting blade reaching all the way through a 12" paper; you can cut to about 11-1/2", and are either forced to remove the scorer or use a pair of snips for the remaining 1/2" - no bueno! So, if you use 12x12 paper very much, and need the scorer, definitely look elsewhere.

    Thanks for this video. I watched it before I bought this cutter. I needed something inexpensive and this works really well. And because I had watched your video, I knew how to remove the scoring blade. Today I'm going to Michael's to buy replacement cutting blades and wondered--how long do they usually last? I may have worn mine out extra-fast because some of the things I've been cutting are laminated. Thanks again!

  • @MontBirder

    FYI ~ I watched your video since I had just purchased this Fiskars trimmer. There is a pretty simple fix (which I expect you have already figured out) for the problem of the scoring blade preventing the cutting blade cutting all the way to the top of the paper being trimmed. I simply took them both off as though I were going to change a blade; I then replaced them in the opposite order. Now my scoring blade is "underneath" the cutting blade, and the cutting blade trims all the way to the top of my paper. Hope this helps you or other viewers.

    Hey Jen... I don't like the scoring tool either. I had found that when I cut my paper to make an A2 size card then tried to score it in half it was off by about 1/8th of an inch. Did you find that as well? Other than that it cuts very well. Thanks!

  • @malliganathan4175
    @malliganathan4175 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I do think think you're supposed to be able to remove the scoring tool and or the blade while using it. I dont think its a design flaw. Ive seen some people complain about that not realizing that it can be removed to make room.

    I just bought this one, and I immidiately noticed the issue you mentioned but I quickly found the answer to the solution also...when you want to score, you line the paper along the upper border, and when you want to cut, you line the paper along the lower border...or however the 2 blades are positioned on your board...so...issue solved :)

    Jen... I like your review and I just purchased 2 new trimmers so now I have 4.. but the one with the score blade. I was looking at mine and you could take your paper down to the bottom to cut... then if you want to score a sheet take it to the top. I am not sure I would ever use the score blade. I make junk journals, etc. No cards. But I was just looking at mine... Maybe I am incorrect. But just thought I would post.

    I took the scoring blade off and only put it on if I need to use it. I have the cutter that was the precursor to this one as well, and always had a hard time getting it to cut straight. This one does a lot better. You can buy replacement blades for it, so I knew the scoring blade could be removed. The bar on it does a pretty good job of making sure the cut is straight and even, so I'm happy with it. :D

    I've had to take the scoring tool off too, because I can't cut all the way up. Another flaw I noticed, at least with mine, is how fast the blade dulls. I get in maybe 8 to 10 good cuts but then it starts fraying the paper.

    I’ve literally just received this off my daughter and I love it. I’m pretty sure the scorer is on the trimmer so it doesn’t get lost initially. I have another brand that has a scorer and a ‘wavy line’ cartridge that you can pop in, but they are separate. This Fiskars one is far superior. It is possible though as this video is 3 years old; things have changed. I don’t have a scorer blade on it; nor within the packaging. It does mention it as an extra. Maybe Fiskars realised it was confusing people by having the 2 cutter/scorers on it and changed things around?

    Thank you!!! I’ve been trying to get that stupid scoring blade off. Definitely a design flaw. Most of my paper is 12x12 and not being able to cut all of the way was so annoying! I have a Martha Stewart score board and love it so it’s not important to me to have the score blade. 👍

    Hi Jennifer,
    Thank you for your review. I must say that I am unhappy about your findings. I have this same Fiskars Paper Trimmer sitting on my desk still in it's package and I am thinking about returning it now. I paid $40 for this Trimmer and there is a "design flaw" like you said. I had one question/suggestion for you though. I will do this myself if I decide to keep mine.
    You noted that there should be room up above where the arm swings out, for the Scoring blade to completely clear the cutting area and I agree. Then you said that the extension arm should be at the bottom so that you can cut the whole sheet through. I also agree with this if the designers don't make space at the top for the Scoring blade to clear the cutting area.
    I'm wondering, have you tried reversing their positions? Put the Cutting blade on top and the Scoring blade underneath. This way, all the cutting against the extension arm end will be complete. Then, when you need to score something, aside from measuring the depth of the score line, you don't need any other features of the Trimmer. So, if you put your cardstock all the way down to the bottom to SCORE, the Cutting blade won't be in the way.
    Does that sound reasonable?
    Thanks, David

    • @jenofevedesigns
      @jenofevedesigns  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think no matter where you put the scoring blade it will be in the way so I just removed it. It isn't a bad paper trimmer. In fact, it would be perfect for the occasional crafter. I used to use this type of paper trimmer but I had to replace the cutting blade all the time and that is costly. Also, cutting a straight line was hit or miss which is frustrating. I Love my Fiskars Procision Rotary paper trimmer! Perfect cut, self sharpening rotary blade, cuts through some heavy duty stuff, and folds up to store away. The price of it is around $70 but I think well worth the investment.

      Hi Jennifer,
      Thanks for your reply. You were correct. I tried putting the Score Blade underneath the Cutting Blade and it still didn't work. One would think that for an expensive Trimmer, you would get something without a design flaw.
      The other $70 Trimmer you mentioned sounds like a great Trimmer in the long haul, but it's a substantial outlay up front. Especially since I've already laid down $40 for this one. :-(
      Thanks, David

    • @Mosaic422
      @Mosaic422 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! I just did that and now have no issue with the scoring blade being in the way. I plan to score before I cut to ensure an even edge. I put a 13 X 13 piece of paper on the board and it easily clears the scoring blade at the bottom by about a 1/4 inch. I can score from the bottom up and then cut from the top down. With my ACMoore coupon and and extra $5 off it cost me $20. I can't complain about that and although I have a drafting table and can use my X-Acto knife, t-square and tape this little cutter seems quick and convenient for card crafting.

    • @joannclupper7902

      The scoring blade is used when you want to fold something, for instance, if you want to take cardstock and turn it into a card you would score the center of it so it folds smoothly and easily and straight.

    Hi, yep it kind of defeats the purpose of being able to score as well when you have to take it off. May as well reach for the scoreboard. I also purchased it because of the wobble you get when the blade is between two rails. That is better but I don't think it's going to cut through too many pages at once. Thankfully, I got mine at a bargain price at a craft show here in Brisbane. Just going to see how long the blade lasts as I can generally only get one mini album from a blade. May look for the Precision Rotary and not have to buy replacement blades continually. Thanks for the video.

    Thanks for this information... Fiskars seems to have quite a few design flaws... I have one of their cutters and the arm that swings out is orange but so is the numbers and markings which makes it very hard to see, especially in the evening... I think I'm going to have to get the bigger one because you can at least read the numbers.... I think they need a new design team that can think through these things before they put a poor design into production....

    Thanks for making this video because I had forgotten the flaw you mentioned and how to get the score thing off. The directions say right side but it is left. I have a score board so I will not use this score device on this cutter.

    Mine did not come with a score...I bought one to add ….put the scorer on the bottom of the rail and the cutter ontop of it...L ove it...don't think this was a fair review

      Thank you for your comment. I made this video 4 years ago and at the time it did not suit my style of papercrafting at all. And to be honest, I still have the same opinion. It just simply does not work well for me. This is just my opinion and it is okay if you do not agree.

    Pretty sure that's what you were supposed to do to begin with, lol!

    They made it so that you could remove the scorer on purpose in order to get complete cuts all the way through. It is designed to be used the way you are using it, lol.

      I did the same thing, switch the two blades. I cut from the top and score from the bottom. Works perfectly 👍🏼😉

    You are NOT supposed to keep both items on the bar at the same time.. that is kinda obvious... did you really not know this?!?! Yet another piece of junk from Fiskars ... come on folks... buy a better trimmer.. you'll have it for a long time!

      fiskars does not sell pieces of junk... I've had my fiskars trimmer for well over 5 years and never ever had the need for a new one. It was perfect for me as a beginner and still now just as great. I honestly cannot ask for more from a trimmer. I praise fiskars!

      I dont know what you mean. This video is almost 3 years old, I didnt like the paper trimmer then and I havent used it since. Its a personal preference for everyone and that is my preference. It sounds to me like you like it and that is totally fine too! Happy crafting!
