Lindsay Mendez has an incredibly powerful gift of putting herself 'in the moment' and what you are getting is raw emotion packed into a song that has the impact of a full forced punch to your gut. She's a special kinda singer..
Cheeky Crissy I completely agree. What Lindsay has can't be taught. You can't learn how to feel the music like she does and be as completely engulfed in a song as she is. What she has in her has only one name: raw talent.
Lindsay is such a cute person. Just watch all the faces and emotions she has when she's reacting to Justin's remarks and *snap* she instantly in character. And once the song ends she had been completely sucked into the character that she was on the verge of tears.
I'm here because of Lindsay's WIN at the Tony Awards. She's so lovely, effusive and luminous. I had no idea there was a musical adaptation of one of my favorite feature films, DOGFIGHT. Looking forward to seeking out the score. Hope someone posted the entire performance.
So since I already loved this song, I was already emotional when I saw Lindsey's face shift to match the attitude. And then she SANG... SANG this number! I'm in Afghanistan with a tear rolling down my eye. Fantastic job. Pasek and Paul know they wrote something KILLER when they penned this.
This is such a beautiful song. Dogfight is my favorite film, and when I found out there was a musical based on it, I was… Skeptical. But this is by far the best musical I've ever seen/heard. Lindsay puts so much emotion into these lyrics, and they are possibly the most relatable lyrics ever written. The last line. "For a moment, he convinced me I could be pretty… Funny." So heartbreakingly beautiful.
watching her get into character and get to that emotional place is just breathtaking. and this song is beyonds heart heartbreaking. been listening to the album nonstop.
My friend sang this for auditions for our choral concert the other day and it was the most heartbreaking thing I ever heard. she put so much work in. I love this song.
Lindsay Mendez is such an amazing performer! She is one of my favorite broadway actress's EVER. Her voice is flawless! I look up to her so much. I cant wait to see her in Wicked!
I've never seen this show, but I love Lindsay Mendez and really wanted to watch more of her stuff besides Wicked (have never seen her in that, but eventually I will!) and this made me cry. Her acting is flawless I just *falls over*
For all the ugly girls out there, I totally relate (( had to have double jaw surgery to feel pretty) . I have such a hate/love with this song...because there was this one man that came along.
I feel like that may have been an acting choice, just kind of that betrayed, small body language really goes with the song and the context. Especially with the lyric 'no more crying, don't you dare" it's like she's trying to be hard and stoic but she's just frozen and at a loss for how this could've happened, and how she could've believed 'that it was real' :)
Singing in a cabaret setting a in a situation that allows mainly her face to convey everything in the song. While she is not 'acting' per se, she is performing. Perhaps, on a stage, in the setting of the show, more "loosinging up" occurred. However, "less is more" most certainly applied here. Sometimes, all a performer needs is simply the song. This, and especially in the hands of the role's creator, is a song wherein just the emotion of the moment is necessary, and is everything. 'Outstanding' doesn't need more to make it "more" outstanding.

Yes, I completely agree!!! She just melts my heart everything! I'm not a cryer, and I cry everytime!!
I wish this musical was on broadway instead of off-broadway cause if it was on broadway she would've been nominated/won a tony
Yes! 100%. This is why we need to have a broadway revival with the original cast 🤫
why doesn't she have a tony
I agree. She's phenomenal. She's one of my family friends and is one of the sweetest people you'll ever meet

what did he say and what did she say after right before she started singing?
Makenzie Schaefer actually she was staying in character after the song ended. it helps to not ruin the illusion for the audience
The moment she closes her eyes as the song is beginning, and you just see her completely fall into character is beautiful. Breathtaking performance!
will i ever not cry at this song? the answer is no. i will never not cry at this song.

0:53 it's so incredible how she internalized and embodied the character in a matter of seconds
She is absolute perfection 💓💓

It still amazes me how quickly she went to the character. Like a flip of a switch.

Don't worry Lindsay, you are beautiful.

I kind of miss the sometimes there's nothing redeeming line, though.
All things aside she looks like she’s wearing the other mothers dress from coraline
i googled aireal combat music and i got this
my brain: *excuse me what the frick*
Amazing! I know this contradicts the song, but I will say, she looks stiff, maybe loosen up. But outstanding still!
