- It Wouldn't Have Made Any Difference from Something/Anything?
LYRICS:
Do you remember the last time I said
If I ever thought about lying,
I'd rather think of dying instead
And maybe you remember the last time you called me
To say we were through
How it took a million tears
Just to prove they all were for you
But those days are through
'Cause it wouldn't have made any difference,
If you loved me
How could you love me
When it wouldn't really make any difference,
If you really loved me
You just didn't love me
'Cause I know of hundreds of times I could be
In the most unfaithful arms that you always picture me
And maybe you remember that
Though I can't always show proof I was true
No one else could change my mind or
Stop me coming home to you
But those days are through
You just did not love me enough to believe me
Enough not to leave me
Enough not to look for a reason to be unhappy with me
And make me regret ever wanting you
But those days are through

Maybe my favorite college album. Needed it to mellow out with all the Led Zeppelin fans on my dorm floor.
Hahahahahaha 🤣😂🤣
Or blow their socks off with couldn’t I just tell you, eh?
Just saw him perform yesterday and now I have to get the CD of this album that I still have packed away. Yes I still have CDs!
Hahahaa
Sorry. t could've been worse.
could've went woke, joke
🙏💕💪✌️🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵
P.s. Don't buydung 💩🤛
I miss all my friends that recommended music to me!!!
All a few grades above. Some were musicians...🎉
I am forever grateful for their advice.
1:31 one of my favorite moments of any song ever is the harmony right here
One of the truly great rock-pop ballads of all time: lyrical vocals, light-touch instrumentals, and sentiment in abundance ... the full package.
It’s truly amazing how this wasn’t released as a single. It’s just as strong as “Hello It’s Me” and “I Saw the Light” in my humble opinion. In fact almost every one of those 1st 6 songs that start the album could have easily been single worthy material.
but Tom Middleton did and it was huge at CKLW
@@hayseaglets9966 I had no idea someone covered this back then! Thats awesome, and it’s a very good one at that! Thanks for pointing this out.
What makes this such a great song is Todd is every track on it... vocals... instruments... a true visionary for his time
He has been, still is and will always be a visionary, undoubtly our "Wizard" and "Truest 🌟"! I have been so blessed to have had my eyes opened early, " to see the light". I'll be drawn to his spirit and soul for all time, even in our "afterlife".
TODD is a musical genius, multi instrumentalist, he could engineer and produce albums at a very young age
This song and the album it was on changed my life completely. I was an athlete focused on sports but when I heard this, it made me hear and I came to realize that music was truly what I loved and wanted to do. I had fiddled around with an acoustic guitar, but this music made me want to play and create. Five years later I was on the road in a band and now, over fifty years abd thousands of songs later, I am still playing and creating. Thank you, Todd Rundgren for blessing my life with your genius.
First heard this on the Almost Famous CD soundtrack. Wasn't expecting such a mellow song. But it left an impression.
Makes me cry EVERY. TIME.
I’m transported back in time to college and the first guy I loved. He loved me too but we were never in sync. This song captures it perfectly and was one of his favorites.
I bought this double album in 1972. One of my favorite records of all time. I still have the vinyl(s).
Almost 2024 - Tip of the hat to Todd for 40+ years of my musical enjoyment!
This song delivers the essence of the hurt in betrayal. His dedication and devotion were built off of his care and appreciation for who she was.
She bewildered him with her accusations (probably to cover up the dirt she was doing behind his back). That cut him deep, accusing him of unthinkable acts on his part (in the attempt to keep him honest).
Her cheating heart made her lose a precious love. Well played and said Todd, "It wouldn't have made any difference if she loved you (but she didn't. She just was just looking for justification for her cheating).
This song has been in my head for months, and I finally figured out it was Todd Rundgren. Of course it was!
How is it I don’t remember ever hearing this song, I was a teen in the ‘60’s and I loveTodd Rundgren!!! Heard this yesterday on the radio yesterday and recognized Todd’s voice and style immediately. What a gift!
One of my favorites of All time
I love ' Almost Famous ' .....had so many great tunes.
I used to own this record, wishing I never sold this with my other records. I miss chilling and seeing this album spin on my turntable.
I know "Hello It's Me" is considered by many to be Todd's signature song and it is incredible. I bought the album when it first came out and it is a Masterpiece. That said, this is my favorite song on the album. I don't know why. I just often times find myself humming it nonstop.
One of the Greatest song writers/players of all time! Would play this 8-track along with frank sinatra with my best friend and a case of long necks in my old 69 galaxie driving around in the snow in berea, ohio. Memories I'll always remeber and cherish. Little things mean alot. (God Bless you and thanks for being my friend Rob). William
So true for us guys in the northern Ohio area ie Cleveland. That us guys would hit the streets riding ie cruising the streets. Especially when so called girlfriends dumped us for other so called guys. Blessings brothers of the northern Ohio likes. We may not have had it on eight track tape but we sure turned the FM Radio full blast as the song came on. Tom Richard B.
Go Browns!
If you haven’t seen this being performed live by Todd and Daryl Hall you’re missing out. It’s on TH-cam as part of the Live At Darryl’s House (except in that episode they were at Todd’s house).
Daryl's House is awesome I love watching that channel and all the cool who stop by his studio
!
cool musicians
TODD SUCKS LIVE BUT BOY DO I LOVE HIM. HAVENT SEEN VIDEO U RECOMMENDED THANKS DOING IT RIGHT NOW
Love this song. Totally underrated vision of songwriting. Amazing.
Cannot believe I have this on vinyl… so fucking good and touches my soul so bad
Heard this album in 1977ish at about 16 from my older sister. Loved it ever since! Todd is God!!! His voice was like velvet back then and his endless talent is never-ending!!!
Ditto! My first time was 1971-72 at 17, but he had me during Nazz/Runt days! Oh,young love!!

Todd is my all-time favorite!
Genius song writing by this rock icon. so good it was covered by Canadian Tom Middleton in '74!
Agreed...but the composition alone is a jewel.
Wow finally found this album and I feel like Brian Wilson and Barry Gibbs had a baby. Suprisingly enough Axle Rose sited this album. Its great with those Maj 7 chords. Beautiful
Hard to believe this Todd and Todd alone.
HERMIT OF MINK HOLLOW. also brilliant.
This is music! This is songwriting. Listen to all those different instruments! You can actually hear each instrument instead of a blob of indistinguishable monotonous sounds of C R A P when you'd rather hear the toilet flushing it where it belongs with all the other C R A P. Can I get a witness?
Was für eine wahnsinns Nummer...
Meine Fresse...
Absolute Spitze!
What a Great Song~~~
Wow! First time I've heard this song even tho I grew up during this period,a kid tho. Nice to discover this.
One of my favorite albums in high school.
I wore the vinyl off this album in college. Loved it!❤❤❤❤
Good sad song about why sometimes we can't help not being able to love after being hurt by someone that he really loved that's what this song says to me
Can relate so much, the pain lingers
Great album bought it when it came out still play it to day but on cd plays all the instruments fine artist todd still going today great live 👍

Almost Famous ❤️
I loved this album.
A Master Class in ballad writing
Just added 2 replies but I think they floated away. So to repeat, I've been drawn to his "more than just music" for a long time.He was, still is and, always will be our visionary, a wizard and true 🌟 I was lucky to have opened my eyes.I have truly been blessed by this "influenza".(haha) I'm forever grateful. I "shouldn't think of him as much as I do ", but I would not be the person I am, if not for that fact.
SUCH AN UNDERRATED SONG!!!
I LOVE this song, until make me crie
love this song.
この曲に出会えたことに感謝。

todd is my heart i swear sometimes
Thanks
Me too! Bawling my eyes out!
Brilliant
Thank god for Todd.
I fell in love with this song when Alison Krauss recorded it on her "Forget About It" album. I'm sorry to say I didn't realize it was Rundgren's... how did I miss this gem? 🙊
Beautiful song written by Todd , check out the Alison Krauss version, it will melt your heart
Wow does this bring back memories , my fav singer my sister bought me this for my 16 th birthday because she knew how much I loved this song.. she passed away 7 years ago from cancer .. I miss her so much 😢
My condolences
Possibly the most beautiful track the incomparable Alison Krauss ever recorded was her cover of this'n.
Released February 1972, 50 years ago!
Todd’s the best!
THATS MY UNCLE ERNIE APODACA ON GUITAR !
Love this song. Own this album. First concert that I ever went to was to see Todd Rundgren in Hartford Connecticut. Great Showman.
Planet Patrol did a remake of this, and got a "one up" on Todd & company with this song.
Phenomenal Album!🙌
Miss you Sandy!
Thanks for the great Hermit from Mink Hollow tune Wiz!
This is a track from Something/Anything, not Hermit from Mink Hollow
The first time I heard this tune, was on a cassette tape and my dad tap
he played every instrument on the studio songs
Not all the tracks but a lot of them
Great...beautiful...but those days are thru....good words.
❤️
nice to have met Todd, even if it was 5 seconds
FONFOM TA AKI OUVINDO COM A GENTE

Whats not to love?
American musical culture...what happened to our culture??? throwing pearls at swine...sorry I'm so synical
We are so fortunate to grow up listening to this music.
The musicians were unbelievably talented.
Playing Instruments is now a thing of the past, replaced
by computer generated sounds.30 or 40 years from now ,Instruments
will be a distant memory, only museum pieces
Loving .. what the F is that? suffering, crying, frustrated .. jealousy torturing you? it may sound like a party pooper but the end result is undeniable, it's just imagination
Is this a double lp
I think so. What I know for sure is half the LP is all Todd, on all instruments and voice. The other half is with band, and I think recorded live in a studio.
yes and a masterpiece.
@@michaelalderete9622 Something/Anything is indeed a double album. The first THREE sides feature Todd on all instruments and all vocals. The fourth side (including "Hello It's Me") features Todd and a bunch of his friends live in the studio.
Double tracked his vocals in some spots for effect.
FONFOM TA NU
True Wizard I dont get it
What don't you get it?
Referrence to Rundgren's album A wizard a true star, my dude.
White soul !
Nice song but it puts me to sleep like it used to way back then. Thank God for punk rock.
Punk rock?? So good it lasted 5 minutes! Anyhow, elvis was true punk as was the who. I could go on. Did you ever see a Johnny rotten interview? Stating he didn't believe in the 1970's punk ethos. Yeah it might have had to happen in some folks eyes, but really classy songs & artists will always endure, even if they are deemed boring by some!
It's really good writing (instrumentally), thoughtful lyrics.
Tom Middleton does a great version
I agree and I am not saying it because he is a fellow Canadian. To be honest, I do not recall hearing Todd Rundgren's version (the original) in Canada. His version is much slower than Tom Middleton's.
I grew up with the Tom Middleton cover.
Last Christmas Wham
Alison Krauss does a nice version of this
I thought this was Kenny Loggins
