Morrowinds secret dungeons tripped me out as a kid, I felt so lost and simultaneously so adventurous in those things. Like no one has ever seen this before. It’s such a lonely game. But so beautiful.
Lonely is a great way to describe it. So many desolate, remote locations in the overworld and deep within dungeons. Nothing else quite like it. Been chasing the feeling of being lost in Vvardenfell since I first played the game as a kid.
Instant like for mentioning Morrowind. The later Elder Scrolls games are fun and had some great improvements; but I miss the alien feeling of Morrowind.
I have a weird OCD brain. Opening up every nook and cranny of a map is something I have to do. Forbidden West was a nightmare in that regard. But yet I'm not compelled to complete every trophy, and depending on the game not even completing every side quest or get every chest. But having a 100% complete map, I gotta do it.
@@DarkForce2024 I totally get that. Nook and cranny plus the platinum for AC Origins, but still parts in the very first section of Tsushima I haven't been too. I'm scattershot.
Morrowind is a favourite of mine. It doesn’t give you helping hands, you have to work it out yourself. It is amazing, horrifying and scary. But it leaves you to make your own decisions. This is where Oblivion went wrong, by giving you HUD quest markers. The lack of specific information apart from hints by npcs is what makes this game Bethesda’s masterpiece.
Don't be surprised...gameranx simply hates the series. I think in their Burning shores before buy video they called Frozen wilds Frozen wastes...they just don't want to, for some reason, bother with Horizon at all
Does the game really have that much content? Even zipped, it's over 78 GB and installed it takes over 130 GB. That's larger than the ultimate edition of Red Dead Redemption 2. I loved the first Horizon game (Zero Dawn) and thought the Frozen Wilds expansion is probably one of the best expansion packs ever made, but I still have my doubts about the second game. Is it really worth it?
@Leanzazzy meh, the story eventually sets up for the final game. But like others said the map is big, and there is a lot of dialog. I found that I dosed off a few times during these speeches.
Supraland! I'm glad this showed up on here. One of my favorite game series ever. The exploration, the secrets, the humor. There is virtually nowhere you can go in those games that the devs didn't already think of. It's fantastic.
I can't tell if this video was about easter eggs, exploring, or quality of worlds. haha Missed the Witcher 3, gameranx! Thanks for taking us through this one, Falcon
Both are phenomenal for different reasons. Elden Ring is pure fantasy which is incredible while Kingdom Come is realistic medieval with hardly any fantasy elements which is really refreshing. They both do what they aim to do so well
Why is this not titled "20 games that are secretly bigger than you think". It would make much more sense than the current title. There are games that are way bigger than these like for instance No Man Sky. Seems like a game that perpetually makes itself bigger for exploration purposes would be on a game about not being able to stop exploring.
Ehh, exploration gets extremely boring when it's a procedurally generated world. Games like No man's Sky and Starfield fell flat with their exploration for a lot of us.
I dont know if its more a sandbox than an open world, but I really liked how the wasteland was presented in Mad Max 2015. If we ever get a sequel I hope it is just as fun to explore the world as the previous one.
Yeah, but it had no sense of exploration as you just had to follow the shitty quest marker. Another braindead game that couldve been so much more in a different generation..
@@realbr1koo I agree, that is one area that the game sorely lacked in was a reason to explore outside the main or side quests. Most of Max, Chumbucket, and the Magnum Opus' upgrades were locked behind the level up system (plus scrap) or a side quest. On a minor note, I know collectibles are not everyone's cup of tea, but I thought the historic relics could of used some more variety. An MFP badge, a key to a ICBM launch device, or wasteland art pieces made from wedding bands or dog tags etc. Though some relics that function as tools or usable keys would be nice.
Kingdoms of Amalur is massive too. You go on a mission and 6 hours later, you’ve got 10 more missions, joined other factions, got into some fights, had to mark things to come back to and levelled up a few times but never got to that mission you started.
I know its not that big of a secret, but i stumbled upon the Stranger Things missions in Far Cry 6 on accident while exploring, and it honestly blew me away. Say what you will about Ubisoft, but the Far Cry series is spectacular 🔥
I spent days looking for black holes and earth-like worlds in Elite Dangerous, which basically simulates an entire galaxy. I spent every evening for a couple weeks just traveling from one side of the galaxy to another. Honestly, it's a very dull game for exploration, but if you're in a certain mood, you can just zone out jumping from star system to star system collecting data to sell when you finally get back to inhabited space.
While I do love secrets in games, my gamer brain isn't what it used to be and, sadly, I miss a lot of these things. It's become a nightmare as a completionist who wants to experience everything.
Thank you for putting the titles in the video navigation so I can actually see the title if I miss hearing you say it. Now I don’t have to rewind all 20 sections.
My only experience with Morrowind was the Xbox version. Despite all its flaws I thoroughly enjoyed hopping my way around its secret filled world for hundreds of hours. I remember finding a dungeon and seeing a glimmer in the cave way up towards the ceiling. I had to drink a potion of levitation to float up there and find out that it was a staff hidden in the crack of the wall. I might not be remembering this completely accurately but that game is full of cool little hidden stuff like that that the modern games haven't really embraced.
Man, finally someone talks about Enderal. Absolutly magnificent game, one of the best stories not only in game industry, but in media space in general. Amazing voice acting (both in german and english), music, locations, lore, it's just very good, SureAI did a great job. If you haven't played the game - try it. Just give it a chance.

While not an open world game per se, I've spent so much time exploring the secrets of Dunwall and Karnaca in the Dishonored franchise. And RDR 2, once I saw a deer eating another dear, the noticing Arthur and running away like a demon.
