    I love your method! Thank you so much for sharing it! I had tried a few other methods that just did not work for me, in one way or another. Yours makes the most sense to me. Love it!!

    Thanks so much for this good tutorial. Easiest way ever to make boxes, great. I just finished a similar calender with boxes I bought, but it is more fun to do it your way. Instead of tyvac you can use some larger width one sided adhesive tape to reinforce the spine connection to the covers. And I also recommend doing it otherwise it will be instable. Also the idea with spacer papers is great, all looks nice and even then. Have a beautiful advent time and blessed x Mas, all my best wishes from Maria, Germany❤

    How did you adhere the boxes so they don’t come off when you pull the lid off? Did you use tape or glue? Also what was the length of the res ribbon on each side, approximately? Thanks I’m so excited at how my boxes are coming together. So simple but a bit time intensive.

    • @themidnightkraftdesk
      @themidnightkraftdesk  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi! I used 3-In-1 Craft Glue by Beacon to glue the boxes to my inside covers. This is what it looks like: www.amazon.com/Beacon-314OZ-314OZBOT12-Glue-Multicolor/dp/B001683NAO/
      It gives you some wiggle time to adjust the boxes right where you want them before sticking on permanently. I'm perpetually lopsided! So I always need that wiggle room to adjust accordingly. You can find this glue at most craft stores like AC Moore, Hobby Lobby, Joanns etc. My ribbon was about 10" - 12" inches on each side. Yes, making the boxes is a bit time consuming but the end result makes it all worth while! Good luck & hope this helps!

    Thanks for such a great tutorial Kay. I plan on making two of these for the last two grandsons this year! 😉. I have been looking for Tyvek envelopes but I can only find them in bulk, much greater quantities than I need. Is there something else that would work instead?

    • @themidnightkraftdesk
      @themidnightkraftdesk  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sometimes the post office has Tyvek envelopes available for free. You can cut those up & use. Another item I've used is duck tape. They sell transparent duck tape or it can be any color really since it will be covered. Also in most craft stores in the Cricut area they sometimes sell loose vinyl sheets--I've used this too. Basically anything that doesn't tear you can use as reenforcement. I hope this helps.

    • @diannebarton3293
      @diannebarton3293 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great information, Kay Thanks!!! 😊. I actually have some rolls of Cricut vinyl so will probably go with that.

    What is the measurements for the spine with the tybac please

    • @themidnightkraftdesk
      @themidnightkraftdesk  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The designer paper for the spine measured 5" x 11" inches. The Tyvek measured 4 3/4" x 10" inches. It's an inch shorter in height because that's how big the Tyvek envelope I cut the piece from was. I didn't have 11" inch Tyvek envelopes. Hope this helps!

  • @aprilking8102
    @aprilking8102 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    What is the size of the outside spine? The part that connects the front and back.

    • @themidnightkraftdesk
      @themidnightkraftdesk  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi! The piece of designer paper that connects the front & back cover to the spine measures 11" inches high by 5" inches wide. 3" inches that covers the spine then 1" inch to connect the front & back cover--so 2" inches for a total of 5" inches. Hope this helps. Kay

    Hey, I love this so much!! But what kind of glue are you using? I got half way through my first box and hot glue wasn’t cutting it to get the spine to stick to the cover and back and ended up using e6000 glue and it’s so toxic the whole thing smells and I’m pretty sure it’s all wrecked now :(

    • @themidnightkraftdesk
      @themidnightkraftdesk  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! I used 3-In-1 Craft Glue by Beacon to glue the boxes to my inside covers. This is what it looks like: www.amazon.com/Beacon-314OZ-314OZBOT12-Glue-Multicolor/dp/B001683NAO/
      It's not as strong as e6000 & it gives you some wiggle time to adjust the boxes right where you want them before sticking on permanently (which is why I don't use hot glue for these). I'm perpetually lopsided! So I always need that wiggle room to adjust accordingly. You can find this glue at most craft stores like AC Moore, Hobby Lobby, Joanns etc. Hope this helps!

    Kay- Can you list all items needed for the project?

    • @themidnightkraftdesk
      @themidnightkraftdesk  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sure! Lets see you'll need: designer paper, medium weight chipboard for the covers & spine, card stock (I used 65 lb weight card stock for the bottom part of my boxes), wet and/or dry adhesive (whichever works best for you), trimmer, bone folder, ribbon for the closure, numbers to place on each box these can be stickers, printable graphics etc. Some holiday designer papers come with the numbers as part of the collection.

  • @diannebarton3293
    @diannebarton3293 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi, Kay. Finally am ready to assemble my 2 books. All boxes are made but had to set the project aside for a while. I have a question about the piece of DSP for the outside of the spine. When you attach your Tyvek to the inside of that strip, it appears to me that the top and bottom of the DSP are raw edges, or did you fold them in. Can't really tell from watching the video.

    • @themidnightkraftdesk
      @themidnightkraftdesk  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Dianne, I wrapped the spine itself in designer paper; so all sides are covered in the paper. For the strip of designer paper that is seen on the backside (outside) of the spine; this piece is not folded over on the top or bottom. It is flush against the top & bottom borders. Hope this helps!
