First thought was that is a bit simple, everyone knows how to do that. Yet a video about a simple DIY job packed with loads tips that I had never seen before yet will be so useful. Thank you for taking the time to share that experience.
I’ve got a Bosch cable detector. I find I get the best results from it by leaving it in the box it came in and asking my dog what she thinks instead. That gives me a similar level of accuracy as holding the detector against the wall and it’s a lot less frustrating. Then just drill the hole, keeping your fingers firmly crossed and not forgetting to do the “safety squint”
Great video. Found it by fiat. So incredibly thorough and loved that you cleaned and rearranged your daughter’s vanity when you completed your project.
Heaviest mirror I hung was a Patricia over-mantle mirror from Laura Ashley weighing about 24Kg - onto a plasterboard stud wall. I cut out a 1m x 20cm section of the plasterboard and replaced it with a strip of 12mm white pine. I bolted some small coat-hooks to the pine before screwing it to the joists. Filled in around the pine and painted and it works a treat.
Thx!!!!! You solved my problem so easy it's almost embarrasing. But I didn't understand the instructions from Ikea and have been googling for ever on internet for help. Great!
going to hang a beveled 30 pound full length with nothing attached to the mirror as it leans. The last few days I've watched about 5 TH-cams and none of them were as educational as yours. Thank you
Really like the idea of using the tape (and the extra tip for making it less tacky) it's the little tips that make the big difference! I wonder if anyone picked up on the tip of using the tape measure hook to scribe a mark?
Nice one Andy. I did hang a mirror for my mum-in-law that was victorian nearly and was about 5' tall and weighed far too much so had to use french cleats that where triple screwed to the wall, real pain! Still there mind.
That just proves that subliminal advertising works!!!!! Made me check that I had already subscribed, WHEN I HADN’T!!!!! But I definitely am now 👍👍👍 my brain said “what the hell is a subscribe driver??” Never use ANYTHING but ‘Staedtler plastic erasers’ for years now. Always enjoy your videos Andy (especially the little hidden treats) and you’ve a wicked sense of humour ❤️❤️ If you ever make it across to Dublin I’d go for a pint and probably have the best craic ever!!! (Not a drug reference) Keep up all the amazing hard work you do and cheers a million mate👍👍👍 🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪
About 2 square meters of 6mm thick mirror. Very heavy. Used a nice piece of wood with a rabbet full width on the underside and two shorter ditto pieces up top. Plugged and screwed with brass flat head slotted screws.
When installing large bathroom mirrors, anywhere between 15-50kg ive always glued them straight onto the wall with Xtragrip silicone mirror adhesive. It was reccomended to me by specialist glass/mirror makers local to me. Really is solid and never had one fall off. Not so easy to use if you cant prop the mirror up while it sets though!
Since the mirror is standing off the wall the width of the hangers, would it be advisable to "shim" the center of the mirror to prevent flexing when cleaning the face? Just a thought... Thanks for the video, very clear process.
Hi Thanks For Sharing Your Hanging Of A Mirror And The Toothpaste Tip. Acquired A Recycled Mirror Today, All I Needed Was To Be Shown How To Hang It. Which You Did Perfectly Thank You. I wish i'd known about that tooth paste trick on the bath, i'd just finished putting up a shower rail when I knocked my drill over and it marked the bath :( Biggest mirror i've ever fitted was a thick mirror 1950s 1m x 1.5m very heavy took two people to hold it up while marking holes etc.
Looks like an IKEA mirror. I cut the cardboard packaging it came in to the same size of the mirror, measured for the hangers and put a hole through the cardboard where the screws would go. Offer the cardboard to the wall making it level, tape it into position then mark the screw holes. Remove cardboard, drill holes, hang mirror, have a cup of tea.
Very useful video. Thanks for sharing. Does there exist a safe/good wood to make (plastic)wall fixings plugs (for hanging things) shorter? I need to hang sometime (not so heavy) in the kitchen. My fixings are 35 mm long but at a depth of 30 mm are electricity cables so to play it safe I need to shorten the fixing to 25 mm. Or is there a better solution? Width (length) 60 m, height 5 cm, total weight max 7 kg (probably less but better safe than sorry)
? I have a mirror like this but I’m putting a thin wood board on it to look like a window so it’s going to make it a little thicker so what bracket should I use
I want to put a frame around my mirror . Should put the boarder around it first and then hang it up or can I hang it up and then glue the boarder around it ?
Some handy tips for a complete novice like myself thanks. Just the cotton wool dad in me here, but with the mirror not flush against the wall can it not break easily. Would you put a supporting board on the back to help. Like I said I’m not the handy Andy :)
I think as long as the mirror is designed to be used with those brackets your should be fine - installed a lot of these and they've always been fine. 👍
Hi Andy I love your videos and would love your opinion. I want to get a saw to cut down sheets and possibly trim thin bits of timber. What would you recommend a track saw or table saw. And can a track saw trim thin pieces of wood? Mark
Hey Mark - a table saw is better for lots of thin rips. A track saw is better for cutting up big boards. Really depends what you make - I would seriously struggle these days without a track saw. 👍
Great video. My main bathroom has a mirror, 60 inches wide by 36 inches tall, supported by similar hardware. I am about to rehang a mirror, 22 inches wide by 62 inches tall, on a hollow core door. I need to review your anchor videos.
I’d guess you’re kids are spoiled rotten!! (Not in a bad way though) Eh!! “My dad can fix anything!!!” Enjoyed that very much. Didn’t sweat as much as when watching the lifting turf upload!!
Don't forgot step zero: check the desk is level. Seen more than a couple of mirrors hung dead plumb near floor standing furniture that was anything but. Looks terrible.
some great tips as usual, loving the toothpaste one ,the only tip I have is use a slightly longer spirit level …..ha.ha.ha ,sorry just been sarcastic....
I have a really heavy and large mirror i want to hang over my fireplace. Its frameless and i dont know how to hang it It does not have a bar on the back n u cant screw anything on the back without damaging the mirror. It took 2 people to lift it. Its heavy. Maybe about 8ft x 4
I just wanna put four screws in a wall. Why do I need an entire aisle of B&Q for this? 😭 Two drills??? I think I'm just gonna stick to picking up my packaged Ikea mirrors when I wanna look into them 😂

VERY NICE AND CLEAN JOB YOU DID. I WILL DO IT THIS MY MIRROR MYSELF.
The poop emoji pillow on the bed in the background had me laughing. Great camera framing :-)
I appreciate the help and like the toothpaste tip!!
That’s pretty much the way I do it, but I use old envelopes to catch the dust, they fold easy to keep in the drill case, then throw away after. 😉
I didn’t know you had to do so much... XD this is harder then I thought! Nice work!
nice and a easy installation I am sure your daughter she will appreciate enjoyed the video .

Andy, if you IM me your email I will try to send you a photo of the mirror thingy.
When you whiped the Marks off the wall, they didn’t go on my iPad screen, then I found why. Dirt on my screen! Well done another great video.

Yes, it was. Man alone, you make a plan. It served well for many years in my small, licensed bar. Room for cards etc. in the bottom rail.

Hi Andy, Don't forget to check that the screw head fits the "springy" bracket.
Indeed! You can be pretty flexible with screw types for these - nice big holes in the brackets. 👍

What size hole did you drill for the roll plugs please?
The packaging I have doesn’t tell me which size they are.

Just watched the mirror hanging video. Right sado, I know. But who decided the position of the mirror??? Geoff.
If you need expert advice always check first with Peter Millard!

Where is the dust catcher from?? I need something like this.

Use mirror adhesive these clips are not suitable for doors .......
@@sreval Thanks for the tip. I knew the clips were not ideal for a moving door, but had not decided how to secure the mirror to the door.
I know this is crazy, but I erase pencil lines using a pencil eraser.
The white plastic erasers (for draughting film) work very well for this!
Depends on the paint... and the pencil... and the eraser - sometimes can get smudgy and leave eraser marks on the wall. 👍
@@GosforthHandyman and it depends on the wall paper as well.
