    Your kindness & politeness to people at garage sales separates you from other youtubers. Even Kayla was genuinely listening to that old lady about the hope chest. Stuff like that makes people smile.

    I have a hammer I bought in the 90’s at an estate sale and I love it. When I use it, I think about the man who owned it before me-his projects, etc.

    My biggest issue with garage sales from folks who own antique booths are they tend to mark their prices fairly high with little room to negotiate with, even going back on the last day they still stand high on items not worth buying for re sell. I love estate sales and yard sales, I've done pretty good on re sell items at those. I'm glad she was offering 50% on her items. You got some really nice fishing poles.

    • @beardedthriftmachine

    This reminds me of an "estate" sale friends of mine had after her mother passed away. They let me and my daughter go through the place before it opened to the public. It was bitter sweet because I knew the family well but got some amazing deals. Love your videos, you guys are awesome.

    When you go to an estate sale ask the person running for their info. I made a new friend this weekend that runs them, follow her on social media and considering I walked with 3 plus big trash bags for $20 she'll remember me. I did have to kick myself for leaving a Shakespeare pole (one you've talked about before) but I couldn't remember lol

    The broken end rod guide can be replaced. Walmart has replacement end rod guides. Just use clear epoxy & wipe clean before it sets. Save all your rod guides. Cut them off old rods (or save old broken rods, they don't use much room).

    👋🏻 Hello Julian & Kayla! 🥰
    Great finds @ the estate 🏡 sale! I really liked the little “Club” ♣️ saucepan! I would’ve totally bought that! *You should’ve “comped” the carnival glass! My MIL has some & she told me that it’s very antique & worth some money. I don’t know how much it was…but I think 🤔 next time you might want to give it another look 👀
    *Texas has a lot of estate sales here! I love going to them! I prefer them over normal “yard/garage” sales because there is usually stuff in every room & it’s held INDOORS! Best part for TX heat!!! 😉 •See ya next time! 👋🏻🥰♥️

    • @beardedthriftmachine
      @beardedthriftmachine  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    The 'Ted Williams' guncase was Sears Roebuck 'store Brand'. You find almost any kind of sporting goods including guns with that name.
    It was quality goods made by major manufacturers. I believe that trade name became obsolete mid 80s

  • @tr7198
    @tr7198 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The difference between Estate sales and garage sales is hardship.
    Please keep in mind that people that hold estate sales may be in certain stages of mourning.
    The usual extremely low prices or high prices may pivot on sentimental value and not actual book value both combined with a need to empty the house by a certain date.
    Large items can usually be obtained through at a great price showing an interest other than a monetary value. Its important to some degree to know what items are used for.
    Some items might and often are over priced due to sentiment of the survivors attachment.
    If you handle the item respectfully and even speak to the seller of its use or experience you've had with a similar item showing interest and spending time talking to the seller and listening to the backround tale attached to the item. Even hold it for a few minutes as if thinking or reflecting on it. But never disrespect the item even if its way over priced.
    Then put it carefully back down.
    Most of the time you'll hear, "what would you like to pay for it? "
    Then you can state your respectable reasonable price or what you can only afford to pay,. Even saying its out of my price range. But thank for allowing me to see it. Never disrespecting the item.
    People like to know that their items are going to a good home.
    You might just hear you can have it for your price.
    This of course only works if you are buying a single or couple items.
    Look around first then a second time to make a few purchases then go after tg e larger item already having purchased the smaller items.

    I get a kick out of listings that use words like "rare" or "unicorn" or phrases like "hard to find" in the title that are anything but that. Like when they're used on listings that are with 100s of other listings for the same item and there's 3 or 4 sold

    I don't go near estate sales. The companies that run them bring inventory in from past estates and their stores and generally have a ton of knowledge. Extremely difficult to find something mispriced with a lot of meat on the bone. You can find quality items to keep occasionally.

    Yeah without a doubt watching this video fishing equipment is one of my Mainstays I'd have to say probably 30% of my sales are fishing equipment that's probably down from 60% after I started watching this video I'd hate to have to count how many videos that I've watched of these kids out there picking up all kinds of stuff. I had really kind of give up, then she bought them stupid Mickey Mouse ears so I bought them stupid Mickey Mouse ears and I sold every one of them. And I was off and running now I haven't missed a video on probably 6-8 months and I've researched all the way back to almost pretty close to the start I think I appreciate y'all.
